I understand how you see them as brothers, and I do agree with that, but I do also ship them. (Please note that I keep those two things farrr apart when writing lmao).

For the brother thing, I had originally assumed that they used older brother in a different way then the way you are thinking of it.

In Chinese culture, you call men who are older then older brother or uncle and so on (it depends on how far apart in age you are) but older brother is still familiar, more familiar then a name in a way.

One good example of this is Heaven officials blessing. The mc is called GeGe (older brother) by the love interest. But it’s used as a familiar term rather than seeing the mc as an older brother. It can be used if they see the character as an older brother, or it’s used as a way of showing endearment and respect for someone older then you.

Further more, I’m not a huge fan of tropes like, Mafia boss x civilian, and so on. I know for me, the reason I ship them is because of how Vein softens around Xia Fei.

As a mafia boss it’s probably difficult for Vein to trust anyone or to have anyone around. So the moments where Vein saves Xia Fei and is soft to Xia Fei are ones I see as genuine love/care, though it could be taken as platonic or romantic love. But that kind of softness is one my brain recognized first as romantic then realized it could technically be platonic.

Sry if I sound rude ;-; I’m not good at tones. But yeah, here is all of this :3

And I agree about shipping siblings :,) I can understand how they got to where they are (like kaeya and diluc) but I don’t really understand WHY people would ship them.

Xia Fei, Vein & The Big Bro Allegations

Well, all fans of the Bridon Trio may rejoice it seems, considering Li Haolin mentioned that we'll learn more about all three as well as Lu Guang in s3.

But the interesting bit for me right now is the highlighted bit. So let's dive into that!

I don't want to start a fight with the shippers, so let's all stay civil, please?

I think Xia Fei and Vein's dynamic is really interesting- because they work in a way people only seem to half-acknowledge.

Yea, Xia Fei looks up to him in a way... but also doesn't. He doesn't idolize him beyond rationality, despite Vein saving his life more than once.

He's blunt and honest with him- a trait Vein mentioned to Liu Xiao. He does only ever call him "boss", but his behavior is far too casual. More like how you'd treat a friend.

And Vein, clearly, also seems pretty casual around Xia Fei and treats him like a friend, despite calling him out on his behavior- ex. flicking his forehead.

Maybe Xia Fei is his only actual friend solely because he's a "heart on his sleeve" kind of person... and definitely not as innocent as he seems, given that both the actual show as well as two of the M.O.D videos go out of their way to establish that there's more to him than it seems.

Okay, but how is this "only half-acknowledging their dynamic"? Because plenty people read something into their dynamic that I, personally, don't see.

A lot of people go "VeinFei"... but I wanna point out a line in the actual show, as well as the bit from the interview again.

"[...] and then he became like a big brother to me!"

This is, to me, how we're actually introduced to their dynamic. Yes, we saw the phone call. But it was only half of a whole.

In this scene Xia Fei, drunk and probably even more blunt and honest than usual, says that Vein's like a big brother to him.

And that gave me the biggest pause the first time I watched, because oh.

It explains a lot about their casual behavior with each other- they don't act like boss and employee, but to me, they don't have "crushing on each other" or "one sided crush" energy.

They have a similar energy to Qiao Ling and Cheng Xiaoshi.

Qiao Ling also admitted to seeing Cheng Xiaoshi as her little brother.

Where do I see Vein on this agenda and does "Vein is a big brother" actually work?

Honestly, I'd put him down as "accidentally acquired a little brother/bestie and has no clue about it"

He does give the vibes. He comes when called, he trusts Xia Fei and they both seem close enough to the point that he let's Xia Fei "translate" his odd choice of wording.

I'd wager he's aware that he picked up a sopping wet stray cat and got attached, but I'm pretty sure the "sibling" dynamic is mutual (or at least the friendship)

They genuinely give friendship/chosen siblings vibes to me and their dynamic reminds me more of Qiao Ling and Cheng Xiaoshi's.

Ex.:

Both have one half outright stating it ("I always saw myself as his big sister, [...]" - Qiao Ling to Li Tianxi /"[...] and then he became like a big brother to me!" - Xia Fei to Cheng Xiaoshi & Lu Guang). In one case it was Qiao Ling, in the other Xia Fei

Both have one half occasionally reprimant the other by hitting/flicking the other's head. In one case it's Qiao Ling hitting Cheng Xiaoshi when he's "stepping out of line", in the other its Vein flicking Xia Fei's forehead

They both trust/know the other very well (ex. Qiao Ling reassuring Xu Shanshan; Xia Fei trusting Vein to come save them)

So... yea. "Xia Fei, Vein & the Big Bro Allegations" do absolutely work as a concept to me.

I get where the shippers come from. "CEO x Employee" / "Mafia Boss x Civilian" are popular as hell tropes... but neither of them feel very accurate for their dynamic.

Maybe it's because I refrained from shipping until Bridon came out, maybe it's because "He's like a big brother!" stuck out majorly to me, maybe it's because I enjoy platonic/found family dynamics a lot. Who knows!

"But Xia Fei wants to uncover the cause of his death! He loves him!"

Well... imagine your closest/best friend died and you know there's more to it but the police doesn't see it. Would you react any different?

So... yea. All in all the "Big Bro Allegations" do make sense to me. Them having a platonic dynamic in general makes a lot of sense to me.

¿How exactly is XF's power activated?

He must physically burn a printed photograph he took himself. Digital images don't work, only physical copies developed with his camera. Once the fire consumes the photo, the actual subject is affected in real time.

¿Can he burn a group photo and harm multiple people at once?

Yes, but the effect weakens the more people appear in the image. For a powerful burn, the subject must be clearly focused and dominate the composition.

¿Does distance matter? Can XF burn someone anywhere in the world?

Distance is irrelevant. Once the photo is in his possession, the connection is already formed, no matter where the subject is.

¿What happens if someone alters or damages the photo before burning it?

The bond weakens. If a face is scratched or partially burned before XF acts, the bond becomes unstable. Incomplete burns cause partial injuries or strange distortions.

¿Can XF be harmed if someone burns a photo of him?

No. His power doesn't work in reverse. But if someone with similar symbolic magic were to attempt it, it could create a supernatural feedback loop.

¿Could XF photograph a place or object instead of a person?

Of course. He can burn places, causing fires or collapses in the photographed location. This makes him terrifying in wars or sabotage.
