I know I said I was gonna write, and I really was gonna, but then I got a bit sidetracked while digging through the Look Outside game files trying to find all the things the filthy ring can do because I've been unable to find a list online as far as I know

i know you probably didn't mean anything malicious by it so im not gonna chew you out, but i think wording your problems as "issues with LGBT headcannons" in general can be read a bit... unfavorably. like, fandoms misinterpreting/twisting characters to try and fit them into trope boxes, with which they can then more easily fit into bigger boxes of shipping tropes, is a huge problem regardless of who it's being done by.

for example, female characters getting boiled down to "the one with the braincell", or relegated to a "motherly" role just because they're nice to kids. or hell, like you said, being shoved aside in favor of m/m ships. those aren't LGBT specific problems, they're a product of misogyny. people being unwilling to see women as having the same depth as men. That's the problem.

also, people making a characters whole personality "being trans" is often a product of the lack of transgender representation in media in general, and people wanting to make that representation themselves.

again, not trying to get onto you, because i can understand where youre coming from, but people who say they don't like when people "make being gay their whole personality" or stuff along those lines, are easy to interpret as a red flag to a lot of people.

I dunno how to respond because you make a lotta good points, but I'll try to keep this message in mind for the future. My apologies for coming off as rude and/or intolerant, that was not my intention in the slightest and I'm glad you brought this up to me. Bias is a hard thing to get rid of, but I'm working on it and I'm glad that you're talking to me about this sort of stuff.

is there any specific reason you don’t usually like trans headcanons or just not your thing

Generally not my thing, I guess most of the time the way people go about it feels out of character or is just generally handled really poorly. I don't really like when people turn "being trans" into a character's personality, which is unfortunately what I tend to see most of the time with those kinds of headcanons.

Of course there are exceptions, I've seen some really good trans headcanons/AUs before, but I guess I've just had bad experiences with those kinds of headcanons and it's kinda ruined my opinion about them as a whole. Honestly, it's an issue I've seen with LGBTQ+ characters/headcanons in general, which is also why I'm not really the biggest fan of fanon LGBTQ+ content in general.

A really good example of this is the Resident Evil 7 and 8 community; many people write Ethan extremely out of character just to get him to break up with Mia so that people can have their toxic yaoi Wintersberg. I'd be more okay with the Wintersberg ship if people just started treating Mia as a person, because 90% of the time she is unfairly villainized to hell and back, made out to be a horrible person, and treated as an obstacle rather than a human being. A few particularly bad cases I've seen ended up having Ethan initiating the divorce, and the way that those people handled that was really bad and inadvertently made Ethan look like an asshole, then framed him as the good guy who was 100% in the right for treating Mia like a piece of shit.

Anyway, sorry for rambling. That's why I'm generally not the biggest fan of LGBTQ+ headcanons as a whole. Uh, yeah. Sorry if I come off as a bit offensive, I swear I don't have any beef with the LGBTQ+ community as a whole, just with fanon portrayals of the community.
