All Canadians:
(or at least all Canadian citizens, which isn’t quite the same thing)
There is an election Monday, April 28th. That’s tomorrow. You need to vote.
If you received a voter card, it will have your poll location on it. If you didn't, you can find the location HERE (français). Elections Canada does not call voters - if someone called or texted you to say the time or location has changed, that’s fraud. Check the website for accurate information.
In order to vote you need EITHER a driver’s license or provincial ID card, OR two pieces of ID, one of which has your current address. A letter from your University or residence counts. (Proof of address is more important than proof of citizenship.) The full list of ID accepted is HERE (français).
If you didn’t receive a voter information card, you may not be registered to vote. But that’s okay!
YOU DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER IN ADVANCE TO VOTE IN CANADA.
You can register at the poll station on Election Day. It’s not hard and it doesn’t take very long, and you don’t need extra ID.
Voting is quick and usually simple. Polling hours depend on your province (français), but all polls will be open until at least 7:00 pm, usually later. (Note that in the Eastern Time Zone polls open late, at 9:30 am.) Your employer is required to give you time off to vote (français) if you need it.
Information for voters with disabilities is HERE (français). If you have feedback on accessibility or other issues, there will be forms you can fill out at your polling station.
If you got a mail-in ballot and you have not sent it yet, you can drop it off in person at your local Elections Canada office (français) or the address on the envelope, anytime before the polls close.
Here’s the acceptable ID list again (français).
EVERYONE GO VOTE.

It's very endearing to me how many people are willing to keep an eye on a video feed so they can push a button and let a fish in the Netherlands get to the other side of a dam.

Quietly losing my mind over the fact that Elon Musk has straight up orchestrated a coup of our executive branch and like....I don't even know what, if any, system we have in place to fix this. Like... He's just taken control of the money and locked out the actual appointed officials. What the fuck.

Every time I see another ibuprofen post on this site I'm like STOP
STOP
Stop.
Take that after a meal. Take it with a big glass of water. Don't take it on an empty stomach EVER. Don't take it with alcohol. You will destroy your stomach. You will end up with an ulcer. You will vomit blood. I'm not exaggerating.
Yes, you. Yes, it will happen to cute little you. With your cute little bottle of miracles. Ibuprofen really does that to your body.

Since the holiday toy drive post is circulating again, I figured this would also be helpful! Food insecurity is such a massive problem in America, in general, and if you have the means to help feed others, I think you should take that opportunity. Here are some other tips:
1. If you’re planning on donating items from your own pantry, please check the expiration dates on the packaging. Think of your donations as gifts to bestow, not castoffs to be rid of. It’s awful to think of people feeling like they got scraps someone else just didn’t want. Everyone deserves dignity with their meals.
2. If you’d rather give money to a food bank, that’s also great since they buy food in bulk and know what items are most wanted/needed!
3. Not everyone has access to appliances like stoves or microwaves or hot plates so if you can donate items that don’t need to be heated up, that would also be greatly appreciated!

Also, your local library! They will need all the help they can get, and are also one of the few places you can use the computer anonymously for free. This will be important.
Two things to prop up right now:
The ACLU - They’ll do their best to make sure this dumpster fire doesn’t turn into a wildfire.
The Trevor Project - They’ll be fielding a lot of calls, texts, and chats in the next few days and beyond.

Checked books out of the library - might read them, probably won’t but it helps with circulation which helps with funding etc.
Use Libby, use Kanopy, check things out of the library!
Literally no one cares if you don’t finish things. The point is to boost circulation so libraries can prove they are used and needed.

Fic-O-Ween 2024 - Day 2
Rating G - one swear word at the end, that's all. Just a fan chant for when the Lions play the Snakes.
We're goin' on a snake hunt, We're going to win this big one, I'm not scared What a beautiful game! Oh look! It's a high sticking Carrow! Can't go over ‘im, Can't go under ‘im, Can go around ‘im, Oh, we got past ‘im! We're goin' on a snake hunt, We're going to win this big one, I'm not scared What a beautiful game! Oh look! It's a slimy Malfoy. Could go over ‘im, Could go under ‘im, Will go around ‘im, Just got past ‘im! We're goin' on a snake hunt, We're going to win this big one, I'm not scared What a beautiful game! Oh look! It's a wild Riddle. Could shoot over ‘im, Could shoot under ‘im, Could shoot around ‘im, Just scored on ‘im!
We're goin' on a snake hunt, We just won this big one! I’m not scared FUCK THE SNAKES!
Credit to the many people who have recorded this camp song classic over the years, including Michael Rosen, Alison McMorland, and Linda Goss.

Fic-O-Ween 2024 - Day 1
Rating: G
Only Remus here, which I feel can occasionally be a trigger warning in and of itself... So, the entire snippet is self-doubt, but otherwise, I don't think there are any triggers? If I'm wrong, let me know.
“I should have gone with basketball, I should have gone with basketball, I should have gone with basketball…” kept running through Remus’s mind like a mantra as he rode the light rail to the practice facilities for the first day of his internship.
He had received many invitations to contact schools and teams at the job fair his program had set up for students early in the Spring semester. Nebraska had even flown him out to see their facilities and meet the staff over Spring Break, but something just hadn’t felt right. He had an offer to stay at the University of Wisconsin and do an additional certificate working alongside the Athletics Division, but he had felt ready to move on. He had been living in Madison his whole life, hadn’t even left home to live in a dorm at college. It felt a bit like giving up to stay there. Safe. But this… Heck, he had turned down an offer from the Chicago Bulls for this!
He had thought he was ready to get back into hockey. It was his one true love, was once the first thing he thought about in the morning, the last thing he thought about before bed. The old ‘90s shirts, “Eat. Sleep. Play hockey.” had described Remus’s childhood to a T.
Remus snorted. He would be willing to bet Mom had saved one of those for Jules to grow into.
Oh no. Jules.
Jules was so excited about Remus working for a hockey team. The kid was knee high to a mini stick, for cripe’s sake, and already as obsessed with hockey as Remus was is. His first word had been puck. Well, buck, but they all knew what he had been trying to say. Losing his hockey dream had been a gut punch to the whole family, not just himself.
“This was a bad idea. I don’t think I can bear this.”
... He walked home whistling.
