it cracks me up that there was a secret society of American journalists who, from 1965 to 2006, slipped the phrase "it was as if some occult hand..." into articles
this all started when one guy used the phrase in an article and his friends thought it was so hilariously out of place that they all started using it
it drove their editors crazy but they kept doing it
that was like. the whole thing. they called it the Order of the Occult Hand and all it did was put a random metaphor into as many news articles as possible
they picked a new phrase in the early 00s, which has not been revealed yet- to my knowledge

What is the highest number of notes on a post you have made? What's your most "successful" post?

If you would have picked one that's not here, apologies, tumblr only gave me 12 options, which is still two more than I anticipated

before the poll, a quick definition of terms:
"mutual" - you found this post from a mutual (on their blog or your dash) "following" - you found this post from someone you're following, but who isn't following you "random" - you found this by scrolling through someone's blog, who you don't follow. this includes people following you "For You" - you found this on the For You page "recommended" - you found this in a "Check out these blogs" popup, or a "recommended" post when looking at a different post "other" - you found this post some other way. comment how? "reblog ✅" - you're going to reblog, queue, or schedule this post "reblog ❌" - you're NOT going to reblog, queue, or schedule this post
with that out of the way:

I keep seeing people online say that any job offering unlimited PTO is a "scam", because it's reverse psychology and you'll actually take less than normal, or that the manager still has to approve it and won't actually allow more than a few weeks.
I'm sure this can happen, but it's not at all a given! My husband's job offers unlimited PTO and he takes a cumulative average of 6-8 weeks off every year. Management is totally cool with it because he's a good worker who gets his projects done on time, and he's considerate by not taking off during the few weeks of the year that his team crunches for deadlines.
Don't scare people into avoiding jobs that offer good benefits in case they might not pay out. Instead, teach them to ask the right questions during interviews so they can gauge accessibility:
What are common reasons a PTO request may be denied? What's the criteria to be approved?
What's the average amount of time your teammates take off every year? (This will tell you how realistically you will get to take off)
How often do you (the interviewer) take advantage of the PTO policy?
Are there any exceptions to the "unlimited" policy, such as certain weeks of the business year, or length of consecutive PTO days taken at once?
How long does a new employee have to work for the company before the unlimited PTO policy kicks in for them?
Remember, you're allowed to ask questions during interviews! Use it to your advantage. And don't avoid jobs just because someone told you the benefits are too good to be true.

There should be a new name for Frankenstein’s monsters as a species. I love Frankenstein’s monsters, I love mismatched flesh tones and visible stitches, but I can’t keep calling them Frankenstein’s monsters because A) most of them aren’t made by Frankensteins, and B) it’s a fucking mouthful every time. We need a generic no name brand Frankenstein’s monster.
#my immediate thought was just a homunculus#but there are a lot of different types of homunculi in different media so fleshhewn or promethean or just a frankenstein work better prob

no offence but the reason tumblr is “dying” is, well, yes, of course the cursed like/reblog ratio and the change in user behaviour (because of people being used to how instagram and tiktok work) BUT also the lack of weekly shows. i say it with my whole chest, they don't produce captivating and engaging stupid weekly tv shows anymore because streaming killed that so you have spikes of activity here when Something happens in general fandom or up to three days after a new season of whatever drops and then it's a wasteland. this is obviously an old woman yelling at a cloud missing supernatural and the vampire diaries and pretty little liars and all these other shows type of post but honestly give me back weekly tv shows where i have something to watch for 40 minutes almost every day of the week after work so then i can read and reblog it on tumblr give it back for the sake of my sanity

Girl are you the Hays Code the way you consider media irredeemable if it depicts anything that strays away from the norm you're comfortable with or depicts anything morally questionable without definitively condemning it and anyone associated with it, therefore creating worse stories and content and making it difficult for people to engage with complicated issues from a nuanced and controlled perspective?
