Here's a quick concept doodle I did for my redesign of Zane's ice dragon (yes, this is my first time drawing a dragon, yes this is based around a Japanese dragon, yes those are chunks of ice protruding from his body, and yes he's meant to have certain things similar to Boreal)

OK! (sorry I haven't done the Dareth ask btw lol, I forgot about it)

Without spoiling TOO much, it still follows most of the original story, but with more heavy/adult themes sprinkled in like depression, self-loathing/hate, and more.

It'd also feature things like representation for different minorities as well as more faithful depictions of certain cultural ideas.

I don't have the main premise or good idea of how to summarize the plot(yet) but here are some character ramblings!

Wu: The embodiment of creation, one of the Old Masters, referred to as the Golden Dragon. He is known as the teacher of Spinjutsu(I renamed it because "jitzu" isn't a word) and is heavily respected for his understanding of other arts(such as Airjutsu and some other techniques I added becuz it's my rewrite and I'm a sly bastard keduvjkfjb) as well as his methods of teaching.

Garmadon: The pure embodiment of shadow, another of the Old Masters. He was once known as the Purple Shadow until the venom from the Devourer bite fully overtook his heart. On that day he was cast into the Underworld, eventually taking over as a ruler, conquerer, and a warlord.

Kai: Eh, not much changes actually. He IS however motivated in the show by a few other things(he still has a desire to live up to his father's legacy, that's why he stays a ninja after saving Nya, because we ALL love a bit of impostor syndrome in our characters).

About the Old Masters, they're very relevant to the story but all you guys need to know is Yang was also one of them. Think of it sorta like the Order of the White Lotus from Avatar.

Also, I really liked the idea of the Wu-Cru being a secret team of ninja in Ninjago so I'd keep the name but maybe instead it'd refer to their vast network of allies? Think of it like the honorary Titans from Teen Titans 2003

Here's some silly concept art for an idea I had for all of the Overlord's forms from the Stone Wars, all of which are based on forms we've seen with him.

Spider = Overlord's Mech

Semi-Spirit = Legacy minifigs

Spirit = s2 loredump/backstory thingy

Kraken = That one form in the Digiverse

Dragon = Well... uh... you know... that time he turned into a dragon

So what are you changing are the characters with darker backstories, character deaths, how gory is it?

OH, this is a loaded question that I can vibe with!

Okay, so, first off, yes and no. The *main* characters seem to have tragic backstories as is, but Wu and Garmadon's seem more loaded/unexplored. Really we only know the bare minimum of "shitty dad who only cared for Wu and hardly Garmadon", so I'd definitely explore/modify their backstories.

As for deaths, I wouldn't do MUCH, however, I would like to showcase the long-standing trauma/pain that comes with the ninja having to witness each other die and come back, as well as perhaps explore Wu's end of it?

I mean, he's been around for thousands of years, he's witnessed countless generations of elemental masters, seen them come and go, live and die in what feels like a heartbeat.

Imagine how depressing it would be to watch him lamenting over the fact that it feels as though he's living through the same thing again, watching as his students slowly die only to come back and repeat the cycle.

It could also neatly tie into an arc I wanna do for Possession, which could theoretically be set up by Zane's sacrifice, or even the Green Ninja prophecy and how he had deliberately tried to ensure it never saw the light of day again (becuz Morro stuff).

As for gore, there's not much. Just the usual blood, scars, scratches, etc.
