the historians in living witness were kinda freaks for portraying the voyager crew like that. yeah so these guys showed up and sparked centuries of conflict for no good reason before fucking off forever so we hate them and they suck but you wanna know something else they were all evil and wore black leather gloves and loooved to torture people and their chief lieutenant torturer would get on his hands and knees to talk to the captain like a vicious but perfectly trained attack dog who only listens to his master

I have this hc that Cardassians collected Bajoran tails as trophies and used amputation as a further way to terrorize the Bajoran population.

Tails of (prominent) resistance members who were caught/killed were displayed publically. Some Cardassians collected as many different colors/fur patterns as they could.

Kai Winn was in a Cardassian prison camp for 5 years, and was canonically beaten repeatedly for practicing her faith. It is not a far leap from that to the Cardassians amputating her tail to try to make her lose her faith. I also have a little hc that they would cut off (part of) religious leaders' ears to remove the ability to feel their Pagh.

I love the concept of Bajorans with tails but that of course also gives the Cardassians more ways to hurt them :')

Looking at this now the Ro Laren design seems to fall a bit outside the topic but idc bc she!!!

One day I will write down all my Bajoran/Kira headcanons bc my head is very full

ok so everyone in ds9 AND tng is a bit weird but the tng crew have the kind of weirdness that you share in an icebreaker where everyone gives a weird fact about themselves whereas the guys from ds9 all have the kind of weirdness that you DEFINITELY DO NOT SHARE in that icebreaker
