i need you guys to understand that yes, it does all start with the language we use; and yes, it is that serious
to anyone who isn't marginalized, language isn't a big deal. but to every community out there who has been alienated, estranged, and put down, it all starts with words. and yes, language can change, but that doesn't mean that all slurs are reclaimable or that their original meaning will cease to matter
take "queer", for example. "queer" used to mean weird (derogatory) as well as lgbtq+. these two meanings were completely intertwined, you could call someone "queer" and mean both that they were odd and that they were fruity. because at some point being lgbtq+ was considered weird (derogatory). language changed: "queer" was reclaimed enough by the lgbtq+ community that it became just a descriptor, and "queer" really isn't used anymore in everyday language to mean weird.
take "cripple/crippling" as another example. this word still means both physically disabled and limiting or debilitating. language hasn't evolved in regards to this word. "crippling" anxiety still means something bad, something harmful. but people are still "crippled" and have the rights to identify as such. so the two meanings of this word are also intertwined, but now in a way that paints crippled people in a bad light in society. because the word used to describe their very existence, in a very neutral way to them, also means something bad and hurtful to non-crippleds.
so yes, it does start with the words you choose. if you choose "debilitating" over "crippling", that is a statement. that is you saying that "cripple" isn't something bad but rather something neutral. it is that serious.
#op is crippled and can reclaim the slur btw dont come at me#cripplepunk#cpunk#rant#politics#i got mad

Holy **** oh right okay. So I was about to make a post about how using speech to text has already been a game changer for me but as you can see by the line of asterix at the start of this post the bloody thing auto censors swear words. (Yet bloody got through, ig Because it is a description and also British slang.). Hint: the word I was trying to say there starts with F and ends with K.
Oh and guess what else you can't say you can't say? **** [Nipples]. had to type that myself. penis is ok but **** [clitoris] isn't, and all my attempts to say "clit" were Misunderstood, which may just be my speech but at this point I am not willing to give the benefit of the doubt. Vagina is OK too but every time I say it there is a moment when an * shows up on screen first before the full word does. this doesn't happen when I say the word penis.
It is completely heinous. Anybody who needs speech to text is immediately forced to comply with the rules set out by people in a position of power and then enforced by a machine — a machine that is a very powerful accessibility tool. Imagine trying to dictate a letter to a doctor or fill in an E consult with speech to text, only to have words of your anatomy censored as if they are taboo. there is already far too much stigma around genital physical health — and note that I could say genital but can't say **** [clitoris] for it to be okay for these words to be censored.
And even if somebody just wants to swear In a message to their friends or write smut/**** [pornography], they should be able to. There is no justification for this feature. No reason for it to be default.
I'm trying to find a way around this. There is a settings icon on the little speech to text bar that comes up, but this only gives me options For the speech typing launcher, auto punctuation, and to set the default microphone. it's making me extremely angry

decided I'm going to start posting the raw extracts from this project, just as a little boost of serotonin cause otherwise I'll lose it. draft from this morning 18/6/25
"cpunk has so many interesting angles to sti
udy: the reclamation of the slur "cripple" as an empowering word for the disabled, while still prohibited for the able, a symbol of power. the strong community ot tries to promote amongst all physically disabled people, who historically have not been inclined to talk to each other a lot. the *reclamation* of punkness, of anarcho socialist ideologies, who have long left disabled people out of their utopic futures. cpunk invites disabled people to accept their disability, to not see it as something negative, while still letting them scream and shout about the pain, the misery, the injustice it entails. cpunk carved a whole in the wall of the under culture for disabled people, and it is knowing and gashing its teeth to keep it. "we also deserve to scream. we also deserve to fight"."

doing my final English project (a 10+ pages research paper) on cripplepunk as a conceptualization of disability, and arguably the most useful one for disabled people. i think i'll put the focus on its social media origins, its emphasis on the "angry/bitter" cripple as a foundation for the movement, and maybe i'll talk some about the overarching theme of alt cultures such as punk liberating the oppressed (connecting it with transness ofc because why not)
i'm so excited and also so scared because this is a lot of fucking work

cis people and the mental gymnastics they'll do to not have to recognize that someone is trans are hilarious. I have this friend from work, I like her a lot, she is very smart. she is however, completely in denial.
this woman knows that my legal name is different from the name she calls me. she has apparently assumed this is my second name.
and now, she found out I'm going to be the RA for All Gender Housing next year and her first reaction was "oh...and are you...cool with that...?" GIRLY I LOVE YOU BUT CONNECT THE DOTS
at this point I'm just seeing how far it goes

God people are so weird. I got out of the fucking bathroom at goddamn Walmart and this woman just goes "hey how you doing today?" (this by itself isn't weird, southern hospitality and whatnot), but when I answer the pleasantry back she immediately went "yeah, good. so! tell me about your braces..."
first of all, fuck off ma'am I'm trying to pee before grocery shopping
second of all, I don't wear braces?? she pointed towards my crutches??
third of all, shut the fuck up

so I'm disabled. I also currently live in a small town where my only grocery shopping option is a walmart situated at a 30-minute-walking-distance. here's everything I did to make going to said Walmart not a complete nightmare:
preemptively took a pain killer
took my iron supplement to avoid passing out from blood loss from my period
taped up my knees and shoulders to make the walk easier
emptied my backpack (I bring back my groceries in there instead of bags)
took both my crutches even though I'll need to put one of them inside the cart while I shop
preplanned my route through the store so I don't walk any more than I have to
used the self checkout so i could in fact put my stuff in my backpack
took a break and sat down halfway home because carrying my own body is already hard, let alone 6 extra pounds
that's it. hope you enjoyed!

Honestly I think the thing people don’t understand about autistic people who hit their heads or headbang against things when they’re upset is that it is genuinely (often anyway—I don’t speak for everyone who does this) a self-soothing behavior. It’s not good for us, but in the moment, it feels like the only thing we can do that will help us regulate. It’s a form of stimming and the way to replace it is to find alternative safer stims, not yelling or violently intervening.

(guy who isnt beating the ocd voice) i know! maybe if i spend all night ruminating on something i feel guilty about until i’ve considered it from every possible angle and made myself physically ill, then i can finally forgive myself and i’ll feel better! 99% of morally abhorrent people stop self punishing right before they’re Absolved

"Actually many disabled people do contribute to society" is not a great argument against eugenics, by the way.
