Learn to Play Guitar! Punk songs are easy to play. Just get a (tuned) guitar and learn the two "power" bar chord shapes and move them up & down the neck. Go start a band!

Archive of St. Louis Punk
This is a fantastic site that is chronicling the history of punk and associated underground/DIY rock'n'roll. An old friend/acquaintance of mine named Greg Kessler is the man behind it. I can't say enough good things about the work Greg has been doing to try and preserve this history for current and future generations of punk fans. Please visit it and bookmark it or whatever people do now to remember to check sites out from time to time for updates and shit.

Did your city have a punk fest as early as January 1977? Believe it or not, St. Louis did! Click the link. Read. Great stuff.

Discovering all of this great punk (Devo-core or eggpunk or whatever you wanna call it) on YouTube. I've been a fan of Lumpy Records forever cuz they were local, but I didn't realize there were so many other bands & labels of that ilk. This dude Jimmy put up some fantastic mixes on YouBoob. Not anymore, though. Bummer. Listening to January 2017 mix now.

Geordie Walker, 1958-2023
youtube
Geordie Walker played guitar, most memorably for Killing Joke throughout that band’s long and productive career; with Jaz Coleman, Walker was Killing Joke’s only permanent member. He died yesterday. For some listeners, nothing quite compares with the thrill of hearing that opening minute of “The Wait,” which transformed some of those same listeners’ ears in the early 1980s. Other players (Steve Albini, Justin Broadrick) may be hipper to talk about, but Walker’s icy, industrial tone and his ear for the riff that was simultaneously danceable and dirgey have proven hugely influential.
Put on that self-titled Killing Joke album today (I did, it still sounds great) and you’ll hear so, so much of the 1980s underground: Big Black, Head of David, Ministry, Helmet. It’s all in there, most of it in Walker’s guitar.
