You have to understand that even before I was a ruthless vampire, I wasn’t always loved like I should have been.”

Jeremy shrugged, "Not bitter, just tired of the conflicts that sort of just come to her like moths to a flame. She's got a big heart and it makes it impossible to put out these fires before they become a bigger problem. It's easier to keep her in the dark and get the job done.” He looked back up and smiled a bit, "How many times will I have to prove that I care about you before you believe me?"

Katherine licked her lips. There wasn’t much more to discuss, especially if Jeremy didn’t want Elena to know and that she wouldn’t find out. “You sound sort of — bitter toward your sister,” she murmured. It was a little too obviously right now. “Wow, you do care.”

Katherine bit her lip and slowly nodded. That was to be expected. A lie covering up another lie, making sure the precious Elena stayed out of everything. With a heavy sigh, she replied, “You all are full of plenty of crap sometimes, aren’t you? Let’s hope Elena doesn’t find out any time soon. That wouldn’t be the best scenario.”

Talking to Katherine about his sister was odd, they'd never liked each other. Not that Katherine had ever given Elena a reason to, but still.
