The whole point of Leporello is he’s bullyable, so I would probably have won anyway. But this one has also just accidentally burned through half a spliff stress-smoking and is about to totter, so I think my odds are very good

True to form, I expressed a casual interest in opera and immediately fell for the most wretched manservant Mozart had to offer

This began with the intention of sketching a few of my favourite renditions of Leporello from different productions, and instead spiralled into a two-page spread of Roberto Tagliavini from the 2019 Royal Opera House production of Don Giovanni. Who knows where we will go from here

11. A song that makes you dance

I’m always down for a good bop, but I think one of the songs that fills me with bouncy energy is Youné by Dobet Gnahoré - I have no idea what language it’s even sung in but I love blasting it while I’m doing the washing up or need to get motivated out of bed in the morning

14. A song you love to sing along to

Again, a difficult one because I will sing along to literally anything and if I don’t know the lyrics I will keep playing the song until I know at least an approximation of them. So I will present you with probably my favourite piece of music that I learned in choir and still love to sing the alto line to: Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Gloria from his Missa O Quam Gloriosum. We sang it a lot in my last year of choir and I never got tired of it, even if the tenors never once succeeded in coming in on time.

19. A song that makes you emotional

I had plenty of answers for this - ones that make me sad, ones that make me beam, but I think the one I’ll choose here is one that makes me angry, or at least gives voice to some of my feelings whenever the political scene gets too frustrating to listen to.
