We have a canonical face for doomguy and gordon but none for john, and i absolutely love the running bit of “master chief has no face” so i try to play along with it. Cause its funny.

I do have a headcanon for his face, but FROM the inherent facelessness of Master Chief I’ve pulled a different headcanon about him having some serious derealization issues and having problems with having a human face thats only gotten worse over time… Mr. “Wake me up when you need me” has had it fully drilled into his core beliefs that he is a disposable tool and not a human person. Being forced to look into his own eyes and not recognizing what he sees back is one thing, but the idea that other people look at him and see a human person gets his stomach to churn for reasons he doesn’t have the ability to understand quite yet. If you asked him, he’d probably shrug and just say it feels more comfortable. Not that he’d be able to articulate his feelings much in the first place, the sweet old man.

I am incredibly grateful that I helped, but I am so sorry for my terrible lack of reading comprehension. Because I DEFINITELY remember stumbling over bits that were perfectly written. Honestly I might need to do it again so that I can train my muscles, I need people to make fun of me when I read things bad and wrong so I can make it good and give it the love it deserves. I also still need to finish it. Please🥺

AAAAA THANK YOU. And I am glad you have it downloaded because the copy I have on my laptop is actually such a rough draft comparatively because, back in 2020, one of my friends would do readings of it over VC and I would listen to him tell it and quietly go "GODDAMMIT" when he would stumble over typos and awkward wording and I'd run immediately to AO3 to fix it.

It is actually the version that is the most polished because of that. Thanks, @nuclearnerves, for being my unwitting proofreader after I published it.
