Lore dump:

Wade found the keychain while they (mostly Logan) were digging through the ruins of a store for supplies. He’d poked at its little plastic hair points, booped its tiny angry face, and declared it absolutely perfect.

Logan’s less than impressed when he sees the toy cradled in Wade’s adoring hands, but he still helps Wade attach it to the handle of his katana, if only to shut him up. Wade had insisted that the presence of the tiny Wolvie would make him far more effective in battle - even though there’s not really anyone left to fight, and Logan does most of the hunting.

The first time it falls off, the flimsy string having snapped, Logan hears it clattering to the ground. Wade’s too busy talking, mouth moving a mile a minute as they wander across the ruins, and is completely oblivious to the loss of his beloved keychain. Logan doesn’t bother turning back for it - with Wade’s unreliable memory, he’s sure to forget that it ever existed now that it’s not there, and Logan’s more than happy to never see that eyesore ever again.

And yet, a couple minutes later, Wade freezes. Logan can only watch as he flails around on the ground, desperately searching for the little Wolvie. Fingers scrabbling around in the debris as if he’d lost some treasured family heirloom rather than a cheap ratty keychain. And why on earth would Wade even care about a keychain of Wolverine, when Logan himself is right here? Logan doesn’t understand. But, if only to stop Wade’s pathetic pawing, Logan retraces their steps and finds exactly where the keychain had fallen.

Upon being reunited with the keychain, Wade gasps and showers both Logan and the keychain with love and affection, interpreting Logan’s growl as an emotionally stunted version of ‘you’re welcome’.

Later that night, when everything’s dark and calm, Wade and Logan are huddled around a fire that Logan made. And halfway through telling a very much misremembered, wildly inaccurate tale from days past, Wade gets quiet. He’s still holding the keychain, clinging to it for dear life, tracing the lines of its little suit.

He lets out a tired breath and tells Logan that he can’t lose the keychain. He can’t.

Because without it, when Logan someday leaves him all alone, Wade might forget him. Might forget the angry face and the claws and the kitty ears.

Might forget the warmth and the not-so-harsh grunts.

He might forget the last person who stayed.

And Wade really, really doesn’t want to forget Logan.

After that, Logan still calls the keychain tacky. Still scowls at it and refuses to call it any of the ridiculous names Wade has given it. But whenever the tattered string breaks, Logan always picks it up. He insists it’s purely because he refuses to deal with Wade’s whining and dramatics.

But it’s really because Logan can’t promise he’ll stay forever. Wade is probably right, that Logan will leave.

But until he does, Logan’ll pick up the keychain.

Every time.

I love how fluffy your wolverine is! He really does look like an actual wolverine or even a werewolf. Idk if your still taking requests but a long haired Logan would be nice to see :]
