Finals are over!

I can breathe again. Pharmacology was said to be the hardest of the whole program so if I can get through that I’m pretty confident that I got the rest of this! Grades will be posted soon! Till then I will be in front of the computer refreshing the screen. I can’t wait to see how I did on my finals. I studied really hard for them. Med surg and maternal child clinicals are next semester. I’m excited.

Every time

I get on the computer to study drugs I get so side tracked by random things. Yesterday I planned a trip to Switzerland that I won’t ever go on. Tonight I’m looking at 200$ spirit Halloween animatronics that I’ll never buy. Eventually I get to the studying. But I always have to allow myself a good 2 hours of side track time.

There’s one week left! I made up so many stories and mnemonics for all the medicines we covered throughout the semester that a REALLY hope I can remember them all!

Orientation

I got the call today saying I passed my preemployment drug test. Surprise surprise. (You can’t see me but I’m rolling my eyes.) I have orientation on Wednesday! The lady said to wear scrubs. So what better way to celebrate then by getting a brand new pair <3

I went to the walk-in clinic around the corner from my house and took my drug test for my new job today. I don’t know why but every time I have to do one for a new job or school I swear the employee explaining everything looks at me like I’m a dirty drug addict hiding someone else’s pee in my pants. They always look at me with their “I’m on to you” face. I don’t feel like I look like a drug addict... In any case, because they give off that suspicious energy I can never help but get really nervous. Which is ridiculous because I don’t do drugs and have NO reason to feel that way. At least it’s over with! I’m one step closer to starting my dream job!

Interview yesterday

It’s always been my dream to make home health house visits & guess what the interview was for?? HOUSE VISITS! I was so excited and nervous. When I pulled into the parking lot I had to take an extra second to take a deep breath. The office waiting room smelled like melted jolly rancher candies. When I checked in with the lady at the front desk she gave me a huge stack of papers to file out. (At which point I decided if I didn’t get the job I’d be pissed for the carpel tunnel this amount of paperwork was going to give me when I’m old.) The interviewer, Diane, was SOO sweet. She said she loved working there and her hour drive back and forth to the office so super worth it because she hasn’t had a bad day once. We talked and I didn’t feel like I was being drilled for once in an interview. She saw how qualified I was and that I have more than enough experience for the position I applied for. There WAS something that stuck out though. She asked me how good I was at blood draws. She said “if you could rate yourself on a 1 to 10 where would you be?” I hesitated then finally answered “6″ but what was I supposed to say...? “So Diane listen, I’m a 0. A worthless zero of a nurse″ ..yeah she would’ve sent me on my way crying. There’s so many other patients that DON’T need blood draws! I didn’t want to blow the whole interview by saying “I’ve honestly never even done a blood draw on a real human being before”. :X Ugh, how embarrassing. However, because I didn’t let that word vomit out I got the job! ...Now I just have to make sure I don’t get any blood draw patients....

Nose buried in my pharmacology textbook

For every drug I have to remember I have written a story about it to help remember it. Some examples.... I have one about Omep the dog (omeprazole), A poet (epoetin alpha), + a caterpillar (catopril). Oh!!! but my favorite is that everytime one of the drugs requires you to watch the patients hemoglobin and hematocrit, I find some way to incorporate fighting the hemogoblins in the hematocrypts.

My version: Active immunity- Your immune system makes “antibodies“ because some bad stuff got in.

I take notes like a 5 year old and I’m fine with that :D

This is me right now. I have a 75% in pharmacology class at the moment and I need an 80% overall to pass. I have another test in 2 days and I WILL NOT be a stripper. So I will apologize to my boyfriend and my dog for looking like a mess and not cleaning or being an active member of my house for these next few days. (because those are the only 2 other beings I will see until the test) but CHALLENGE ACCEPTED. Just try to get my nose out of my pharm book. Bet you can’t.

... obviously because this is the first post. durr. It kind of makes me sad because I had years worth of nursing rants saved on my other one. I could have said I had one nursing blog through my whole nursing school experience. However, now I can say I had one for my LPN program and a different one for my RN program. If you would like to check out my LPN blog it is “gamewithoutsin” and is not password protected. (I thank past me for that because I would have probably forgotten it by now.) As of today though this new blog is up and running. I’m excited. It’s a fresh start! All things RN student. My RN life. <3
