My personal opinion on the word “Newfie”

There has been such a stigma against the word Newfie. Some call it a slur. But, honestly, in this day in age, these “newfies” are doing things for themselves.
And let me tell you, there’s a lot of us.
We’re a land of story tellers. We care for our people. We’d give everything for them even the shirt off their backs. (Nuwfi shirts now available! Get them at nuwfi.ca) We support one another. It’s hard enough living on an island, with not enough work for all of our people. There are people I know who try, and try, and try, again to get work. They spend all their time in school, and probably won’t get a job out of it. The only way is to leave the province.
Well what if you don’t want to leave the province? You know the saying, there’s no place like home, well it’s true. Newfoundland is BEAUTIFUL. (As my father would say) PERFECT!!! GOTTA LOVE IT. That man, was a saint. A pain in the butt. But I Love him! He’d do almost anything for you. You need a place to stay? Yer going to Wayne’s! Having a house party? Need entertainment? That’s Wayne. LOVES IT. Food? Dads always making homemade bread. And lemme tell you. Wayne’s homemade bread is delicious. Maybe I’ll parter up with him and sell it outta the house. ALRIGHT NO ONE TAKE MY IDEA! CLAIMED, TRADEMARKED.
Yeah the term was created as an insult to Newfoundlanders. To belittle us, because we have it hard, well of course we do, DID I MENTION WERE ON AN ISLAND. While the rest of ye are all attached together. We either have to take a 8 hr boat ride to get off or we have to fly, and it’s not that cheap to fly, and to live away, I know, I’ve done it. But seeing as it “Newfie” is a thing, now, people over time, have adapted it as a definition of pride. The people I know, and have grown up with, are just amazing human beings, who identify as Newfie.
Because we come from a land of storytellers. You calling us a Newfie doesn’t mean what you think it does anymore. What’s so wrong with living in the woods, with the ocean right next to you, away from all the craziness of the world? It doesn’t give you the power to define what a Newfie is. You gave it to us, we took it from you (2006, a man from Newfoundland argued that it was also a source of pride, and fought to have the word removed from the list, and he eventually won.)
And we’re not havin’ it. The rest of the world know of these “newfies” as great people. There’s stories galore about us. We’re hilarious in my opinion. There’s much more to just polls on the internet if the term is “offensive” check yes or no. Because no matter what, or where you go, everyone already knows the word “Newfie” and the stank of the past still lingers amongst our elders. But, we’ve been raised to respect our elders, but it’s really hard, when the world is still so close minded. May I remind all older readers that the internet exsists, you’re on it, great! USE IT. And yes, we will still help you with technology Nan!
I asked some people, in light of a giveaway, to define the term “Newfie” or “Nuwfi” and this is what they had to say. DISCLAIMER: I in NO WAY am trying to change the spelling of “Newfie” I chose the spelling of “Nuwfi” for branding purposes, and no matter how you spell it, it sounds the same, and means the same thing.

Are we still on this topic of “Newfie” honestly? Because I get kinda sidetracked when talking about it, because it’s very hard for me to see why people used it in a derogatory manor.. 🤷🏻♂️
I know I’m not the only one when I say this but,
If a Newfie is how you’re going to refer to me as, Then I’m just gonna own that, and show you that you’re wrong about me.
Hi I’d like to explain, so, please support me and I can create more, write more, I will be eventually coming out with cute little things for you guys, that are very useful in this day in age. And just sharing my creativeness to the world! 😁
