The same doesn’t mean the same: “das gleiche” vs. “dasselbe”

In German, there are two translations for ‘the same’: der/die/das gleiche and der/die/dasselbe.

They don’t describe the same concept of same-ness (Is that even a word? Well now it is). Dasselbe means ‘that exact same thing’ while das gleiche means something like ‘an exact copy of that thing’.

If you didn’t know, Gloob just released a new teaser for season 4. Oh boy is there a lot to unpack here.

The first thing that stands out is that Ladybug has a new outfit. Whether this is some sort of power-up, or whether it’s an entirely new look, is completely unknown right now.

This frame allows us to see more of her new outfit. In my opinion, it looks amazing, I’m in love with it. She also seems to have a motorcycle or some kind of similar vehicle with her.

We also see Ladybug giving someone the Bee Miraculous.

This is obviously another very exciting thing. The thing that makes it better is that it seems to be someone that we haven’t seen on the show yet.

In this frame, you can see that this user has pink streaks of hair near their face. No character we’ve encountered so far has had hair like this.

And finally, we have an outfit reveal. It looks pretty awesome, definitely better than Chloe’s outfit. I’m particularly in love with the shoes.

Anyway, so many things to look forward to this season!
