college
Last night, I made one of the hardest decisions of my life. One that could affect my life drastically, for the better or for the worse. I believe it will be for the better. That’s the thing about believing: once you put your mind to something and believe you can do it, you will. And this is the entire reason why I quit school.
I have become a college dropout.
When high school was coming to a close, everyone felt the pressure of applying to universities and colleges. All of my friends applied, and my family greatly supported my decision to apply. There was not a single person I knew who wasn’t going to post secondary, and guidance counsellors, teachers and friends made it seem like if you didn’t go, you wouldn’t be successful in life.
So, with all of this pressure, I applied. I picked a program that I thought I would enjoy, and boy I thought wrong. My family was surprised at my decision to go into the criminological field, but I insisted this is what I wanted to do.
Like anyone, I was nervous to start college, but once I got used to the routine, I was okay. I noticed something though: not very many people talk to each other in college... well at least in my school. Months had gone by and all I had were acquaintances. Nobody ever wanted to create a friendship, or hang out outside of school. Everyone was focused on what they were doing.
About the time second semester rolled around, I loathed getting up in the morning and going to school. My grades started dropping. I wasn’t interested anymore. I started procrastinating to the point of not doing the work at all. I blamed it on being tired, or burnt out. I thought summer break would do me well. But boy I was wrong.
When second year started, I barely went to school. I did my essays the night before they were due, no effort whatsoever. And then the strike started. The strike went on for 5 weeks. 5 weeks being out of school. 5 weeks without contact from any professors. 5 weeks to do whatever I wanted. So I picked up extra shifts at work.
This leads me to last night. The strike has ended. It is Tuesday, November 21st, 2017, and I have realized I lost my passion to become a police officer or anything in that law related field. Because I lost my passion for it I don’t believe I can finish school. I don’t have the passion for it, so of course I’m not doing well. Of course I loathe getting up to go to school. Of course I procrastinate.
My advice to students everywhere is that it’s okay to take a gap year or two to decide what you want to do after high school. It’s okay to take a year to find yourself. And it is okay to quit the sure thing that everyone has been telling you about that will make you successful.
School will not make you successful. Your passion and your drive will.

Quote
I think you know you’ve found someone special when you meet them for the first time, and it feels like you’re just picking up where you left off. You kind of look at them and think “Where the hell did you come from? Where the hell have you been?
