More hunting season prep! Checking a wristwatch while bundled up and gloved is a struggle. #iPhones are useless outside California because the batteries last for 2-3 seconds in the cold. If you keep it tucked away inside it just comes out soaking wet from sweat and condensation. I've been looking for something I can hook on to my #molle vest or backpack and I remembered I got this as a gift from my aunt when I was a kid. Tried a new recipe today! #Tenderloin #steak wrapped in #bacon and seasoned with salt and pepper only! Cooked for 10 minutes in butter with #garlic, #fennel, and #thyme

Last food post from my camping trip: Chilli made without any "chilli" flavouring or seasoning. Onion, red pepper, yellow pepper, two banana peppers, one tomato, 4 cloves of garlic, and two left over sausages from the night before. Cooked that down and made a delicious broth. Added some crushed tomatoes, cooked that down. Then browned a half-kilo of ground beef and half-kilo of ground turkey (browned separately first). Then half a can of lentils and a can of mixed beans (drained both). The result ended up serving 6 with two bowls each! Cooked in a Kitchen Aid 3.5 qt #castiron pot and a @lodgecastiron 2-quart #dutchoven. Also if you preheat the #lodge country kettle, it's an awesome bowl to eat hot food on a cold day! @drakefield_official_page #campfire #countrycooking #chilli

Cooked my first roast the other day while camping with @drakefield_official_page and Caleb. Rib roast, butter and spice mix of your choice, four cloves of garlic inserted, rest overnight. Seared in butter while I fried two potatoes and half an onion. Dropped the roast in the veggies and put the lid on the cast iron pot. Kept it off to the side of the grill so it would stay warm but not overcook. Took it off the heat after 50 minutes. Fried asparagus and broccoli in butter.
