I'm a sucker for those basic severitus fics in which Harry for some reason has to spent an ungodly amount of time with Severus for whatever reason. And like every fic goes they get close and Harry starts to see him as a father figure.

The moment when Harry calls Severus dad for the first time without realizing 😩 I love it. I live for it 😩😭.

Severitus Fics I Love

Here is a list of some of my favs! Most of these are on everyone’s rec list, but hopefully someone out in the void finds something new to read here. That being said, always read tags!

The Summer We Went Mental- :The official summary is a bit long, but essentially, Harry and Snape are roommates in a psychiatric ward at St. Mungo’s. And it’s wonderful. I cried.

A House on Stilts: “Every summer, Snape takes Harry to the ocean. It’s strange how much kindness can hurt when it reveals what you’ve been missing.” It’s a whole journey, and it’s pretty underrated. Cried/10.

Time Left Today:  “When news of the circumstances behind Quirrell's death spreads, Severus Snape finds himself carting an eleven-year-old fugitive across Europe. The further they travel, the less obvious it becomes how Severus can best follow the orders given to him, or if he need do it at all.” Each new setting is perfectly crafted, and an amazing fic with  younger Harry.

Digging for the Bones: “A student has been killed by his family. New screening measures are put into place by the Ministry: Every student must be given a medical exam and interview to look for child abuse. With Dumbledore facing an inquiry, Snape is entrusted with the task of making sure EVERYONE receives one.” So investing and so emotional.

O Mine Enemy: ”When Harry finds an injured Snape on his doorstep and must hide him from the Dursleys, he has no idea that this very, very bad day will be the start of something good.” It’s worth the length, so read it if you surprisingly haven’t yet. (Who hasn’t?!)

The Definition of Home: “Harry runs into Snape while trying to find the definition of home, and finds himself drawn into Snape's summer Order task by the headmaster, looking for a location outside of London. Along the way, he and Snape learn a few new definitions themselves.” This fic is mentioned in my severitus as vines video, is that enough reason?

Moment of Impact : “An accident the summer before 6th year puts Dumbledore's plans for Harry in motion sooner than planned. Will an unexpected truce with Snape better prepare Harry for what is to come? A Snape mentors Harry fic with all the regular players, a cottage by the sea, and the righting of past wrongs.” Is it dramatic to say this fic changed my life? (also the one mentioned in my last post)

Namesake Necklace: “Harry and Dudley are attacked one evening, and Snape is called to fix it. A child sized Harry, who looks much more like Lily than James at this age, was not what he was expecting.” A formative fic in my severitus journey.

Incomplete/WIP, but still worth it:

Fearless Child; Broken Boy: “When Harry fails his attempted suicide, the only place for him to go is Snape, a man who is bitter, and hates his guts.” The severitus relationship in this is top tier. So many perfect bonding moments.

​​Second Chances:  “A mentor fic: When Snape discovers Harry is abused by the Dursley's, he is forced to teach Harry for the summer after the tri-wizard tournament. Will they eventually find the family they never had?” Harry learning how he should’ve been treated? Yes please.

My opinions (that no one asked for) on every severitus setting (hogwarts years)

Pre Hogwarts: ADORABLE! snape trying to figure out baby/young harry is usually pretty funny and adorable, i don’t really seek this one out much however but love the ones i come across

Year one: no opinion really because i can’t think of any specifically year one fics i’ve read (except for To Trust, which is amazing)

Year two: POST BASILISK! snape being like “i’m sorry you did what with a giant snake that was apparently living under the castle?!!” i live for it

Year Three: pretty much the same as year one

Year Four: severitus fics that take place during the summer of year four.. are amazing. like?? after everything that harry went through with the tournament and cedric?? makes for some great severitus moments

Year Five: YES. yes yes yes. my second fav severitus setting. mutual umbridge hatred. occlumency lessons. protective snape due to the blood quill. classic.

Year Six: MY FAVORITE. period. especially ones that focus on the summer before sixth year, because that makes everything that happens at the end hit so much harder. by this point harry is so done and damaged since sirius just died, and that makes certain moments just so tender and UGHH it also gives them time to understand each other and makes for some great fics (i can talk about this more in great detail but i’ll spare everyone)

Year Seven: i’ve not read many year seven fics, but i’ve read this one (i’m making a rec list soon i’ll try and find it) where harry goes with ron and hermione to look for horcruxes like in canon, but only after the severitus relationship gets established. snape meanwhile is at hogwarts and they write letters to each other and IT WAS SO SAD but SO GOOD so id like to read more

I don’t think I know this fic sorry, however, that last bit about the snake Hunter and biting Lupin sounds like it’s from “O Mine Enemy” by KirbyLane, but the Dursleys aren’t in that one

looking for a severitus fic

Petunia gets cancer and harry has to give a bone marrow transplant. snape’s there to make sure he doesnt die bc harry was called home suddenly because of it. dudley’s nice here. they go back to hogwarts after the transplant. petunia dies bc her body rejected the transplant. and vernon is becoming abusive to dudley and so dudley stays at hogwarts for a bit w harry. 

first time dudley meets sev he thinks he;s a vampire and screams. draco;s there too. i cant remember if it was a drarry fic. harry also gets a wee snake friend who he calls hunter. he communicates w hunter in parseltongue which freaks out everyone around him, including sev. Lupin gets kidnapped or sth and a deatheater takes his place w polyjuice. hunter bit fake lupin.

harry also got kidnapped by voldy and got severely injure

How do you like your oats?

I prefer scottish oatmeal, or sometimes just instant oatmeal. Rolled oats are too chewy, and ruin the experience for me, personally. If there are only rolled oats available, I crush them first, before preparing.

I have my oats with honey and cinnamon, and sometimes fruits cut inside, preferably with a slightly thicker consistency.

A very good question. Firstly, I love your blog name, I actually have a blog called @i-steal-oats so what a coincidence ahah.

I don’t mind the simplicity of instant oatmeal, I have that the most. Blueberries are my favorite topping, and I almost need to eat oatmeal with cinnamon. I like your oatmeal choices as well, I do like a thicker consistency.

Irondad is what got me reading fanfic religiously (that was 2 years ago i think ?) And now i’m a big Severitus reader. I was gonna made a post asking if there’s anybody who has read both, good to know i’m not the only one 😅 but that’s a good idea!

so I'm kind of like really into Irondad now and there's a lot of Irondad bingos on Ao3 and I've been thinking for awhile it would be cool to do a Severitus bingo but I'm not sure if that would be a big enough thing to need more than one bingo card and then which fluffy or angsty bits to use XD

10/10 Kind of halarious considering Severus has to pretend to hate Harry at school and Harry does everything he can to give it back to him. Plus Remus makes an adorable mom, and it’s hilarious that Severus and Remus pretend to be dating in front of the entire school.

Links in the title and in no particular order. Each with important tags to double check as well:

Harry Evans- by Artistic_Gamer. A wonderful fic about Snape noticing Harry is wearing a glamour. This fic is quite angsty and very compelling. The author is extremely skilled at negotiating complicated dialogue and is excellent at Snape’s voice. Harry is also brilliantly done.

Crime and Punishment and Snape’s Promise by Melocasti. Crime and Punishment begins with Harry being accused of a crime he didn’t commit and Snape being the one to deal with it. Snape’s promise includes Dumbledore realizing the Dursley’s aren’t suitable and asking Snape to take in Harry. This author is stunningly skilled. They’re voice for Harry is so perfectly canon and their storytelling skills are mesmerizing.

The Wizards Nephew by Kat_o_nine_Tails. A fic where Snape hides Harry away directly after Voldemort’s death. It’s so sweet and the author has a wonderful skill with writing small children as well as insightful depth into traumatized adults.

To Recollect the Future and Far Beyond a Promise Kept and The Definition of Home by oliversnape. To Recollect shows Harry walking to meet Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest and waking up in his eleven year old body, quickly followed by running into Snape. Far Beyond is more about Snape and Harry seeing eachother for who they are and Snape realizing he can help Harry more. The Definition explores Harry grieving just after Sirius’s death and Snape finding him. This author writes some of the most excellent human feelings, their characters have depth and life and find new and interesting things about themselves as the story unfolds.

Prisoners by Whitetail. A de-aged Harry who’s magic quite literally begs him to handle his grief. It’s gut wrenching and gorgeous and the skill with which this author looks at disability and grief and small children, it’s just poetic cinema. I wish I could erase my mind and reread this again.

My Little Runaway by BlueRowley. This fic looks at Harry’s child abuse and a young Harry having taken matters into his own hands, which leads to Snape finding him. This author has such a sweet young Harry and a struggling, but handling it Snape. They’re way with writing interactions is effortless and I envy them tremendously.

Punishment by Ananke. Mr Filch finds Harry’s punishment after Mrs Norris’s petrification lacking and handles it himself. This author has such a skilled way with handling tension and fear in a twelve year old Harry and are utterly brilliant with their descriptions.

Whelp I and Whelp II by Jharad17. Whelp I looks at a young Harry being saved from an abusive household by Snape, and Whelp II is part two. This author is just, I have no words, the way they portray the lovely relationship between Harry and Snape is gorgeous. Their skill with writing the repercussions of child abuse and how Snape learns to help Harry is both heartbreaking, but so lovely for Harry.

Allergic to Potions by Cordria. Harry has a reaction to a magical vaccine and ends up spending part of his summer with Snape. This fic is a bit less about Harry and Snape changing their dynamic, but it’s gorgeous all the same. The author creates an eerie and frightening world for Harry to find himself in and has such excellent technique with their interactions. I would adore to explore their world just a little longer.

A Thousand Words by Ailee17. This beautiful fic shows Harry finding Snape’s friendship with Lily early on and discovering quite a bit about his mother, while Snape discovers Harry’s home life. This author utilizes beautifully slow and wonderful techniques to allow characters to interact. Their style of writing is so insightful in its treatment of Harry’s background as well.
