Agreed. I watched all the FMA in release order (FMA, CoS, FMAB, Milos). I would've been majorly confused about the story in FMAB's first 13 episodes if I hadn't watched 03 first. I would not have understood Yoki's resentment of Ed in Brotherhood if I hadn't seen their first encounter in 03. People are snubbing 03 when they really shouldn't be.
I'm going through FMA with my boyfriend now. He hasn't seen much and I want him to have a proper experience. So what did I do? I bought the full 03 series on DVD and am having him watch that first. I made sure he understood that 03 goes into more detail of the initial story than Brotherhood because Brotherhood's creators were ASSUMING their audience had already seen 03.
So, yeah. Y'all who're snubbing 03, I hope you enjoy not having a full understanding of the FMA universe.
Okay but the weirdest thing about the whole "Brotherhood is better you should skip 03" discourse that's become commonplace now, it sort of forgets the world Brotherhood came out in and why you should watch the original Fullmetal Alchemist. When Brotherhood came out, the original Fullmetal Alchemist was one of the most beloved and most watched animes of all time. Brotherhood assumes you the audience have already seen it because of course you have, everyone has seen it, so it skips important information and speeds the story up because it doesn't want to bore you with things you already know. Have you ever wondered "hey why does the first episode of Brotherhood kind of suck, and why am I being introduced to like 50 new characters, and why are they acting like I know what the hell an alchemist is?" It's because Brotherhood thinks you've seen 03.
The first 7 or so episodes of Brotherhood constitute dozens of chapters in the manga, and the first 25 or so episodes of the original Fullmetal Alchemist. The Nina Tucker episode in Brotherhood, in FMA 03 takes up nearly three episodes. Yoki gets a backstory in 03 and it's genuinely one of the best episodes and taken directly from the manga and Brotherhood glosses over it because: duh, you've already seen it. And so if you skip the original you miss out on dozens of really great character building episodes like Ed and Al meeting Hughes for the first time and getting to spend a whole episode helping him free a train from terrorists, or Ed and Roy having a duel that expands on the relationship they have, or episodes where the brothers just help out random people in towns before the major story gets going.
The original also paces itself quite a bit better than Brotherhood and is more in line with the mangas storytelling. In the manga we don't find out about The Gate until nearly two dozen chapters in, and the same goes for the original anime. Like, that's a twist reveal in those stories, and it's weird that the most watched series is the one where they tell you all about The Gate in the first two episodes because they assume you've already seen the original show.
What's more, people don't know that Hiromu Arakawa helped write for the anime while she was still in the middle of writing the manga, and as a result was inspired to write scenes in Brotherhood that the anime did first. That scene of Edward getting impaled by a falling beam? Directly inspired by a similar scene in the original anime. There's a lot of little instances of that and they're great when you can recognize parallels and things in Brotherhood that are direct references to the original anime, but people don't notice any of that anymore. Because the original anime is just an automatic skip these days, and it's a bummer because people don't realize what a giant it was back before Brotherhood was released. They treat it as *bad,* not realizing it was one of the most beloved anime of its time and the problems people take issue with have a lot more to do with personal taste than any kind of actual flaw in the writing. Brotherhood was never meant to dethrone it, and the original anime was always supposed to be part of the viewing experience which is why those first few episodes of Brotherhood are so fast paced. So like, please stop telling people Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 is a skip, or it's bad, or you don't need it because Brotherhood is better. Regardless if you think Brotherhood is better or not, the original wrote Brotherhood's check. It was huge, it was beloved, and Brotherhood is *banking* on the knowledge you've seen all of it and loved it. And trust me when I say there is so much to love about the original series. It's still my favorite branch of the FMA franchise, and it's worth your time, I promise you.

Oh my gosh this is so cute I love it thank you so much!
May I ask for Legend getting a mom hug from Malon? Like in 'A Mother's Touch' by @bokettochild? I just really like cuddly Legend, he deserves them.

Here I am, working on an art project, and I suddenly get a sense that I am awful. Not in an intrusive thought sort of way. Just a sort of subconscious feeling. A deep seated sense that I am absolutely terrible.
Thanks brain. I'm actually a decent person, you're wrong. So you can shut up.

Oh, I love this so much! You captured Doc's bewilderment perfectly! Thank you for the fic! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Not really a question, but I have this whole headcannon about how Dale Sr. could've known Doc in the 50's. I hope you like it. (Humanized)
So Dale Sr. was born in '51. I like to imagine that Ralph, Dale's dad, sometime in August, jogs up to Doc, says "hold this", hands Doc a 4-month-old Dale, then walks away to go do something. To two stare at each other for about 5 minutes before either Dale's mother or an older sibling comes over. They apologize, grab the baby, and walk away. This all happened during a televised interview.
This then becomes a running joke where Dale becomes Doc's 'interview partner' from '52 all the way to the crash in '54. The two of them were best buddies. Dale was heartbroken when Doc didn't come back. Doc was heartbroken when he heard that Dale died.
Do you hear that crunching sound? That's the sound of me- eating this headcanon up- absolutely consuming and leaving zero crumbs
I now know where Dale Sr gets his balls of steel because his dad going up to a famous person and handing them his child during a televised interview is hilarious and oddly in character 🤣
But also the two of them never being able to meet again in a time they'd remember is devastating in more ways than one- and it's also something I didn't know I needed until now-
10/10 headcanon- would munch on again!

Glad you liked it! I've read almost all of your Cars fics (I'm SheIsKaraM) and this popped up from it.
(Oh no, I forgot to say why the Earnhardts were there at practically every race. Ralph was a cup driver, too. He had the #8 car.)

I must thank @crumb-crumblet-s-crumbington and @coffeebrownn for their Ethan lives AUs.
Crumb's artstyle is adorable. The way you write the Lady D's Manthing story is both hilarious and slightly tense, at least in Ethan's eyes. They legit have no idea what is normal for him and what isn't, it's amazing. I'm a sucker for Leon and Ethan team-ups, so I love the rescue. Leon's shock at Ethan walking of a bullet to the head was just *chef's kiss*. Absolutely wonderful.
I also love coffee's idea that Ethan would join Chris's team. He'd probably flourish under their attention and support. But there's just something about how coffee draws Ethan. It's almost rugged, like he's a bit unkempt. Except for his hair. I'm pretty sure Ethan has an official model, and I like coffee's interpretation of it. I also find it interesting that Ethan just seems paler here. Like, his eyes, hair, and skin are all paler than the official model. Almost as if he's paler in (pseudo mold) death...

I'm just gonna come out and say this. Neither of you are entirely wrong, but neither are entirely right. There different levels of smut and different genres of smut. Tags exist for a reason. I think there's also an age restriction feature on AO3 as well. There are absolutely some works that should never be seen by kids, especially it's horribly graphic.
Here's a "what if", an 11-year-old boy being molested by his dad's friend finds a one-shot of, say, Danny from Danny Phantom being molested by Vlad, a friend of Danny's dad (which is a legit ship in that fandom 🤢, this smut actually exists 🤮). Because of that one-shot, the boy figures out that what his dad's friend is doing is wrong, which he then goes and tells his teacher. Finding that smut likely saved the boy further trauma.
I'm not saying this is what happens all the time, it's just an example. But just with any other genre of fanfic, there are some smut fics that kids just should not read. Some that are just so grotesque they're deeply disturbing and would only traumatize a kid even further. Given the subject matter of RE, there's plenty of grotesque and disturbing imagery. That's what tags and age restriction features are for. If an adult genuinely does not want minors reading their material, age-restrict the material. If that's not possible, heavily tag it and emphasize those tags in the summary. It's not gatekeeping, they're not being kept from enjoying the fandom. Just using tools to help curate their preferred experience.
Yes, smut fics can a relatively safe way to explore sexualities and kinks. Believe me, I've gotten ideas for fun times with my partner from fic. But also understand that the fics might not show how those acts are done safely. Heck, a good bit of RE smut fic consist of r*pe fics. But, showing what that can look like might save someone else down the line. A couple other rebloggers mentioned that smut showed them what consent was when school and parents didn't. Those are excellent examples of smut actually helping people. There's also the whole aspect of it helping people process previous trauma.
This entire subject is a gray area and no one will ever have an answer that satisfies everyone.
Okay I apologise if I am going to get a bit heated but I feel like there's something that needs to be addressed as harsh as it sounds.
If you are under the age of eighteen and writing/posting smut please stop. You are coming into spaces where the intended audiences is meant to be adults. The reason for this is because we write subject matter that is specifically meant for those over the age of eighteen. We are not comfortable with minors reading our content, and this is why we often put MDNI in our profiles.
I have honestly been seeing a concerning amount of minors writing smut (especially when it comes to Leon Kennedy). But please, wait until you are of legal age to write smut. This isn't to say that we think that you are stupid or that we are trying to treat you like a child. Again, we are just not comfortable with minors coming into our spaces.
I know that as a sixteen or seventeen year old it is totally normal to think about sex. But there are other things you can write aside from smut.
(Cw for brief mentions of grooming - marked with a '*' before and after at the end).
*
I will be the first one to admit that when I was sixteen and seventeen I was writing stories with graphic violence, horror elements and even the occasional romances with some light kissing and cuddling. But I never once wrote smut, mainly because I was a victim of grooming that had been sexualised a lot as a child.
*
Believe me, you will regret writing smut as a minor when you become an adult. There are a lot of elements that come into play more than just the physical aspect; especially with some of the elements you guys are writing into these fics. From what I've seen, there's a lot of BDSM aspects (which honestly, I'm totally cool with if you're writing it as an adult), but it's really disturbing to read if a minor is writing it. Again, just like with sex, BDSM involves a lot more than just the physical intricacies.
All of this is stuff that should strictly be written by adults. I'm not trying to say that there are minors out there that don't read or write mature subject matter. Believe me, I am all for writing whatever you want to as long as it is a) respectful b) not harmful and c) written with empathy. But smut is not one of them.
If you want to write about relationships, then you can write more than just smut. It's okay to imply that characters have sex by fading to black before anything gets too inappropriate/heated. Believe me, even as a legal adult, I've done this when I wasn't comfortable writing smut yet. And there's more to a romantic relationship than just sex. It can be a part of it, but there is also a lot to do in terms of romantic chemistry, banter, their love languages, communication styles. All of those are really fun to write. But again, you shouldn't be writing smut if you are a minor.
Please stay out of our adult spaces. From now on, if I see any minors in these smut tags, it's an automatic block and report. I know it sounds harsh, but this is a space meant for adults. If you can't respect that and wait until you are adults yourselves, than you shouldn't be apart of it.
Anyways, I apologise for getting so heated and being harsh, but I feel like this is something that needs to be addressed. I'm seeing so many minors in the Leon Kennedy tags writing smut and it's not okay. If you can't do it until you are a legally consenting adult, then don't write about it. Again, there's more than smut that you can write.
That's all from me, I'll see you guys with another more hopefully lighthearted post soon. Take care guys ❤️

“Why are you helping me?” Legend blurted out. “Why did you waste time trying to calm me down? Why didn’t you just hold me down and get it over with? Why aren’t you downstairs, telling everybody about how hilariously pathetic I am? Why are you being so nice to me?”

DO NOT DO THIS.
This makes me so angry.
If you work in a movie theater and you do this I have no respect for you.
My younger brother is Type 1 Diabetic.
When we go to a movie theater, we always get him diet soda. If he were to get regular when we asked for diet, we would not give him the insulin he would need for it. If that happens, his blood sugar level could go so high he could go into a coma, go blind, or even die.
If somebody gave him regular soda instead of diet without telling us, that person could be responsible for a nine-year-old being killed or blinded.
Just thinking about that makes me so angry. I get scared every time we take him to a movie in case the people working there saw this picture and decide to do the same thing.
Please signal boost this so people know.

Because you are by far one of my favorite writers.
We have been blessed. Absolutely blessed
@bokettochild publishes yet another lovely story. It's a beautiful interpretation of how those who've wielded the Master Sword view her. A definite recommendation.
Then @linkeduniverse updates with Dawn pt. 2! We get some hilarious faces from Twilight, Time, and Hyrule. Wild's relief is palpable and the hug is so sweet. The imagery of Twilight's fight to live is striking (but I still say the renditions of Twilight's original journey from Sunset pt. 13 are some of the best art to ever come from this comic). Then Four hinting that he's getting ready to apologize to Wild for Sunset pts. 7 and 8.
