Ninjago Beach Headcanons

Kai is sunbathing- sunglasses on, he brought a portable speaker, occasionally dozes off only for someone to spray him with water, which makes him squawk at all the ninja.

Nya is spraying Kai with water.

Lloyd is getting blamed for spraying Kai with water (he's always standing close enough to be incriminating, usually with a bucket to help Jay, and he gets easily flustered so Kai thinks he's lying when he denies it.) It doesn't help that Nya sprays the water from Lloyd's direction.

Jay is building sandcastles. They are actually pretty incredible structures, and he puts a lot of time and focus into making them, especially when he notices Nya watching.

Cole occasionally sends the faintest tremor through the ground to make Jay's sandcastles crumble. Not enough to completely destroy them, just drive Jay crazy since he can't figure out why they keep shifting.

Nya is trying not to laugh because she knows exactly what is going on, but keeps giving Jay thumbs up to encourage him. When she isn't watching Jay or spraying Kai, she's swimming with Lloyd and calling in lots of little fish to excite the little kids further down the beach.

P.I.X.A.L. is walking along the shore, collecting rocks, shells, and sea glass for her collection. The problem is, she thinks all of the rocks look cool, so her collection takes up an entire wall of her room. Since she's usually pretty levelheaded, the others roll with it.

Zane is sitting in the sand, letting Cole bury him up to his neck. He knows that sand will lock up his gears, but he's decided to be impractical for once.

at a conference I attended recently, a researcher pointed to the difficulty of finding material in archives because so much depends on the metadata and the terminology used to describe things changes over time. "it would be so helpful," the researcher said, "if I typed 'lesbian' into the library of congress database, it would also show me results that were categorised in the 50s, when the materials were interpreted as 'intimate female friendships'"

which is what tag wrangles at Archive Of Our Own do incredibly effectively: searching for "omegaverse" also leads to "alpha/beta/omega dynamics" and "alternate universe: a/b/o" and so on. but ao3 achieves this frankly incredible categorisation and indexing system by the power of countless volunteers putting in hours and hours of unpaid and unthanked free time, and it's completely understandable that most archives do not have that kind of infrastructure, but also how incredible that a fan-run website has better searchability, classification, and accessibility than the library of congress

Kind of a Reddit AITA post but sometimes it is a little funny to fuck with people in ways that deliberately conform to a stereotype of what they must think of you. the other day I was talking to my friend and I randomly said that I wanted a pet chimpanzee. I'd dress it in person clothes (dungarees and hats) and I'd teach it to love science fiction. And this girl nearby was like "you know how dangerous those things are, right? Also how unethical it is to keep an ape as your pet for your own amusement" and I was already seeing where the conversation was going so I was pretending ignorance like "yea but it wouldn't just be for my amusement. It would have practical points too." And she ignored that statement entirely to say "Well chimpanzees can rip faces off" and I was like. What's the most frustrating thing I can say now. Finally settled on "Mine wouldn't do that though." and you could tell she wanted to hurt me very very badly. Like a chimpanzee would if I had one as a pet
