Karen and Matt

Honestly for me, this is one of the most beautiful and complex friendships in TV land. I really think its absence (as well as Foggy's) cast a painful shadow over Born Again, restricting the emotional beats that were the absolute heart of Netflix's DD. The fallout from Foggy's death to these two should have been front and centre and woven into the greater narrative even going so far as to juxtapose the strain and break between their relationship with the strengthening bond between Wilson and Vanessa as they rise to ultimate villainy.

Karen and Matt
Spoilers for Daredevil Born Again, Episode 9 "Straight to Hell"
Matt: The truth is, ever since Foggy died, I didn't know who I was anymore.
Karen: Foggy believed in you. Whatever you wanna call yourself. Whatever's behind the mask, behind your eyes, that's wrath, and that's mercy. That's the dark and the light. He knew all of it. All of it. He knew you. I do, too.
***********************
My random thoughts overall for Born Again:
I really wish there were more of these cathartic conversations between Matt and Karen throughout this season. I just feel like the Netflix DD show would have placed the emphasis on the personal aftermath and devastation wrought by his death and would have woven them into the show. I just think there was a missed opportunity in developing further Matt's internal struggle now that half of his North Star was gone. Also, I felt Matt should have been visiting his mother for some spiritual answers as to why God had taken Foggy away.
I also feel that Netflix Karen would have put on her investigative hat from the beginning to try and find out the why, in an effort to deal with her pain rather than abandon everything she and Matt and Foggy built together. Maybe even team up with Ben Urich's niece?
I wish there was more of an in depth introduction to Cherry.
I wish there was more of an explanation as to what happened to all of them in the last ten years.
I did think that Fisk and Vanessa's arcs to full fledged authoritarian villainy was well done and utterly terrifying.
I also thrilled at the return of Frank Castle and Poindexter, as well as seeing BB Urich play the long game.
Anyway, I am looking forward to the next season - with the faintest hope that the Defenders will return (I doubt it!) - now that Karen and Matt are a team again. I am hoping it will be more structured and focused because DD remains one of the very best iteration of Marvel characters and should be protected at all cost.

The fates of Daredevil and Kingpin
So I am very new to the lore that is Daredevil but having caught up with the Netflix series and the new one on Disney plus, I thought I'd look up the characters/comics to see if they were worth buying because by golly, the show is beyond sublime. The show is ART.
So imagine my frustration when I learnt the eventual comic series fates of these two.
WARNING: SPOILERS FOR COMIC READERS in the next paragraphs!!!
Kingpin gets to "sail into the sunset"* with his beloved second wife, leaving his criminal empire at the hands of his adopted son, while Daredevil continues his lonely, broken and depressing life. Currently, he is battling some weird fungal infection**. There is also another new limited 3 part comic series "Cold Day in Hell"*** set in the future with an older Matt with what seems to be even more misery and suffering in store for him . Sigh.
Can't the writers just give Matt a break? It looks like Fisk gets to retire in relative happiness and calm, while poor Matt just unravels physically and mentally all the way to old age!
I just want him to have some permanent happiness, even if it's just a tiny bit. Is that too much to ask for?
I'm still going to read the series though and hope the show continues for a few more seasons!

"The most impressive aspect of the flight was [when] we were in lunar orbit. We’d been going backwards and upside down, didn’t really see the Earth or the Sun, and when we rolled around and came around and saw the first Earth rise. [T]hat certainly was, by far, the most impressive thing. To see this very delicate, colorful orb which to me looked like a Christmas tree ornament coming up over this very stark, ugly lunar landscape..." Bill Anders, Apollo 8 LMP, on his thoughts about taking the iconic Earthrise photograph.

RIP to another Apollo legend, 1933-2024.

“I am not in the habit of looking back. When I do I am somewhat amazed that the only child of a dentist and a school teacher from a small town in Oklahoma was able to attend the Naval Academy, serve in the Air Force and fly in space four times.
Through it all… I kept my eyes on the sky. I still do and I hope I always will.” Tom Stafford.

Halo episodes 1 and 2 were tense, action-packed, and thoroughly enjoyable! I cannot wait to see how the story unfolds - well worth the long wait from S1!

"The greatest moment was what had never been done before in all of history, and that is to get in a spacecraft and take that spacecraft and actually rest it on another object in space. So clearly the touchdown was the moment of greatest anticipation and the moment of greatest satisfaction and relief, and for two non-too-talkative guys, I looked over and patted Neil on the shoulder, we looked at each other, smiled, and then went about what we were doing." Buzz Aldrin on what he thought was the greatest achievement of Apollo 11. (Aldrin, Buzz. Interview. Conducted by Dana Marcotte Kilanowski, September 27, 2003.)

Happy birthday to an Apollo great.
