Modern TGCF would totally have Hua Cheng as a stalker lmao and his room plastered with pictures of Xie Lian like a creep haha just the like cave scene! And Xie Lian would like it because he’s a freak too!

TGCF is a story with religion and gods with every god having statues and literal devotees and temples and paintings and it’s frustrating that everyone takes the Cave Scene as some gross stalkery proof of Hua Cheng’s brainless simping to be mocked. And then also trashes Xie Lian’s intelligence along with it, exactly how Mu Qing and Feng Xin do in that scene by taking over his body and forcing him to walk away.

You do realize that there are many real world religions with multiple gods to be worshipped which have statues and iconography of them? Because Xie Lian was a god and having statues of him was not disturbing or creepy or ‘stalkery’ by itself.

It was the context of it all, the way they were hidden, the numerous ways Xie Lian was depicted in those statues, and MQ and FX convinced that Hua Cheng was nothing good and had bad intentions for Xie Lian that made the whole situation what it was.

The statues showed without a doubt of Hua Cheng’s love and devotion to Xie Lian as a god and his romantic love for him which MQ and FX took as nefarious because they never trusted him. They took it as sinister and likely lustful as if Hua Cheng had been preparing to take advantage of Xie Lian and that is the reason he was with him for so long.

Hua Cheng was afraid because his heart has been laid bare and being rejected would be the most painful thing. Xie Lian however knows better and understands him completely and instead that room of statues soothed his insecurities and confirmed that he was the ‘noble and gracious special someone’ of Hua Cheng’s all along.

Xie Lian had been falling in love with Hua Cheng all this time but had his own worries and insecurities and that room showed he had nothing to fear. And that scene ends with Xie Lian embracing his San Lang and both of them holding each other tight without speaking because nothing more needs to be said.

Tldr; no Xie Lian having statues of him is not creepy, you are forgetting the literal setting of the novel when you say that, and trying to put it into a 1:1 modern AU is ridiculous when taken out of context.
