The history of bubble tea✨
The history of bubble tea has two competing stories for who first created bubble tea. The first being The Hanlin Tea Rooms in Tainan, Taiwan. They claim that bubble tea was invented in 1986 when the tea house owner was inspired by white tapioca balls he saw at the local market. He then decided to make tea with the tapioca balls resulting in the creating of Bubble Tea.
The other claim is from Chun Shui Tang tearooms in Taichung, Taiwan. It’s owner said he observed how the Japanese served cold coffee and he decided to apply this method to tea. This style of tea propelled his business and lead to him opening multiple chains. This expansion lead to the rapid expansion of bubble tea.
The drink began popular in most of the East and Southeast Asia during the 1990’s. The drink is also popular with foreign consumers in North America. In the Bay Area of California bubble tea is extremely popular and is consumed by many different consumers. It is one of the cities with the most bubble tea shops in the United States.
The bubble tea rage is relatively a new thing for the Western world. Even in Dublin, bubble tea is becoming a much sought-after drink, by people of all nationalities. They have started to recognize their newly-found interest in exploring the diverse flavors of bubble tea varieties. Bubble Tea first came to Ireland around the end of 2018 and it is a growing phenomenon with many shops opening all around Dublin.
So this is the brief history of bubble tea, we hoped you enjoyed reading this! Let us know if you have any suggestions on what you want to see us talk about in the future on this blog.
Lots of Love,
