I'm offering a free generative writing workshop for trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive youth ages 13–17 this July. Please share widely with anyone who might benefit!

This is a supportive, creative space for trans youth to write, imagine, and express in community. We’ll explore writing as a tool for joy, freedom, and survival through prompts, reflection, and creative play. No experience needed—just something to write with and curiosity.

About me: I'm Ely Shipley (he/him), a queer & trans poet and somatic coach. I've been holding creative space for LGBTQ+ youth for over 25 years in classrooms, community centers, and writing programs across the country. This workshop is something I wish I’d had as a young person—and I’m honored to offer it now.

This workshop invites you to explore gender through embodied writing, ancestral wisdom, dreamwork, and connection with the natural world. Using writing prompts as invitations and invocations, alongside somatic practices as portals, we’ll journey together to meet the many energies, stories, and voices that shape who we are. 

No writing experience is needed — only a willingness to listen inward and explore. This space is open to all who want to deepen their relationship with their gendered self—whether you identify as trans, nonbinary, queer, cis, or are simply interested. 

We’ll meet in a small, supportive group where witnessing, creativity, and transformation are held with care.

I colored in @omiishii's Hiei at the beach and I HAD THE BEST TIME!!! Alt ver under the cut... 🍹

I learned many things coloring in Jace's Hiei:

It's worth it to make clean lines. 🥲 My messy lines really can make it a nightmare to color.

It's A LOT of fun to color in someone else's linework. Even though I've always thought of myself as hating to color. (see above for why lol) ... I think because the work feels like it's halved.

This is making me realize I shouldn't push myself to finish all the work in one sitting... even though it's always incredibly compelling! (I might have AUADHD, gonna test soon.)
