Potentially hot take but one of the reasons we need art and music in schools is that, taught correctly, they are ideal avenues for teaching kids how to do something, kinda suck at it, keep going anyways and improve over time.
And THAT is one of the most valuable skill sets a human being can have. THAT is the skill set that unlocks soooooo many others.
A LOT of people I see with anxiety and depression do not have this skill set. To suck at something is a threat. Proof that they are doomed to suck at it forever. And then, often, that either THEY suck forever or the task must be stupid/useless/pointless (whence we get AI art fans who have decided actually making art is pointless and degrading the labor and skills of others is fine because these are useless skills).
Or you get the freeze- the inability to try things in case you fail. The sudden lancing shame and humiliation or hopelessness. The sense that anything you haven't learned by now you can't learn. Which is so heartbreaking and so untrue.
I just hate it.
"What if I write it and it's bad" "what if I draw it and it's bad" "what if I play it and it sounds bad" DOING IT BAD IS HOW YOU LEARN TO DO IT GOOD! You can't skip the process of leaning and the process is FUN if you let it be what it needs to be!

I think the important thing to remember about genuinely baby kid heroes (like 8-year-old Dick) is that most kids don’t really have, like, a conscience, an internal sense of morality, yet, at that age
They don’t fully understand on an emotional level that other people can feel pain, y’know? And their brains aren’t equipped to care about the intellectual awareness that other humans also have nerve endings. They’re not malicious, they’re just curious and self-focused and the needs or problems of others don’t really factor in
(This form of innocent amorality is distinct from tweens, who are malicious. Tweens have just learned that other people feel pain, and they are delighted by that fact. But that’s a separate matter.)
So, like, 8 year old Dick doesn’t kill people, because Bruce told him not to, and 8 year old Damian does kill people, because Ra’s and Talia told him yes to, and neither of those really reflects on who they are, as people, that’s just how their circumstances ended up.
ANYWAY. My point being
An 8 year old superhero would be shit in your pants terrifying, because the only thing stopping them from snapping all of your bones if they feel threatened is training, the only thing stopping them from killing you is a memorized list of Superhero Rules that they could at any moment decide to teehee-disregard like the rule against sneaking cookies, and the only thing stopping them from torturing you like you’re an ant and they just got a brand-new magnifying glass is the bigger hero standing behind them.
#yeah 8 year olds don't care about things like Laws and Morals#mostly they care about Feelings#and as far as 8 year old dick grayson is concerned#you just hurt batmans feelings by Doing Crime In Gotham#which means you deserve Maximum Punishment#if you think about it#dicks transformation from utter menace to moral compass is fascinating#this kid gave no shits about morality until he was at least 14#thats when those neural receptors started to do their job and creat a General Sense Of Empathy#no wonder goons are terrified of robin#robin dc#batman#dick grayson

The funny thing about Batman is that despite his secrecy and isolation, he is always that dude with a place.
Need to discuss a mission? Batcave. Need to get your injuries treated? Batcave. Need a gadget or a plane? Batcave. Need a rare antidote to a poison created from a fish that only lives in Cambodian rivers? Batcave, somehow.
Bruce built the Waychtower because he was tired of the “so what’s the move?” question after every mission. The move is not the Batcave get out of my house—

🤗 i dont like this emoji. this is not a hug to me. this is someone doing condescending jazz hands in my general direction when i am in need of affection. not comforting.

so i wore a pride flag pin to work the other day and the kids were all interested (obviously) (find me a classroom of preschoolers who are not obsessed with rainbows) (i'll wait) so they crowded around to see.
"aww!" they said, "it's a flag!!"
but the thing is: they're little. a lot of them don't really have a handle on all their mouth sounds yet.
such as, notably, that tricky tricky "L" sound.

I'm sorry your community isnt supporting you the way you're supporting them, op. But I doubt its on you. Even if youre not directly asking for help.
When one of my friends landed up in the ER, I left class to get to her even though she told me I didn't need to come. She told everyone they didn't need to come, that she was fine. Five separate people still showed up. Her boyfriend at the time, however, did not.
Sometimes its not about you. Sometimes the only mistake you make is surrounding yourself by people who dont care as much as you do. I've been in friendships where it was obvious I cared for them more than they did me. An ER trip is something you can, you should, do no matter how little you like someone, because it could be life or death. But you can guess just how willing they might be to help you when times are bad based on how willing they are to help you for smaller problems.
And sometimes, you just need to nod and tell yourself "Ok, so this person won't make an effort for me if I need it. Thats ok. I just need to find someone who will" and actively choose to prioritize your relationships with people who are willing to look after you.
Why is it that I am always the person people ask to accompany them to the ER and yet nobody has ever agreed to accompany me on any of my ER trips. What kind of grievous injury does a guy have to acquire to get a little company here.
#its not always about reciprocation its just care#taking care of yourself means surrounding yourself with people who care about you

bleeding, mostly
it seems like the key theme of fungus is that they eat everything including things otherwise impossible to eat, they get everywhere with their tiny spores, and they grow and be happy wherever it is wet by eating the surroundings. So if get inside your body (wet) they eat you. so your two main options for being a multicellular organism are developing an immune system (most animals) or hiring other fungus to beat the shit out of the fungus that gets inside your body (most plants)
