They closed the Death Wendy's over a year ago and I'm still mad about it. It was a Wendy's located in the middle of a six-way intersection, requiring many pedestrians to cross the street 3 times in a row in order to get to it

It was one of the city's top ten spots for car crashes, multiple people died there, and the service was terrible. I miss it dearly

JAWS 大白鯊

Roy Scheider got slapped 17 times to get this shot. Bruce has gotten a lot of the glory over the years, so I wanted, for a change, to celebrate the incredible characters and their small town New England drama that make this movie what it is.

It’s the 50th Anniversary of JAWS. In 1975 JAWS was the highest grossing movie of all time, and was released overseas in dozens of countries. But you won’t typically find Taiwan on that list, because in 1975 Taiwan was no longer recognized internationally.

But it was released in theaters there in 1975, known in Taiwan as 大白鯊. My Mom personally watched it during its release, and even remembers billboards of it. But because of the complicated history of Taiwan, it’s not well documented.

I wanted to fix that and give Taiwan the flowers it deserves, so I made a retro Taiwanese JAWS poster. All text is in Traditional Chinese, which is distinct to Taiwan, HK, and Macau. My mom is always asking, ‘How come you make all these posters in Japanese? Can’t you do a Chinese one for once?’ So this one is for my Mom.

I want to give a big shout out to Rob Jones for art directing this. Thank you to my Mom for helping me translate and format everything Taiwan-accurate. And of course, thanks to CODA for having me in their official JAWS 50th Anniversary art show.⁠

The exhibit opens at Art Alliance of Monmouth County in Red Bank, NJ with a reception on June 28 and will be on view through July 13.

Not just that, but a lot of dinosaurs (pretty much all of them) are trans icons. Let me explain:

Dinosaurs weren’t mammals. They didn’t follow our tidy little rules about XX and XY, about external genitals, about fixed sex or secondary characteristics. In fact, they’re closer to birds (most people know this already) and in birds, sex is weird. It’s flexible. It’s sometimes reversible. It’s often invisible.

We’ve never found a dinosaur fossil with a phallus. We’ve never found one with a definitive “this one was male, this one was female.” In most cases, experts can’t even tell what sex they were, because sex in deep time doesn’t fossilize clearly. Behavior doesn’t fossilize. Identity absolutely does not.

And in modern reptiles and birds: some of the closest living relatives to dinosaurs, we see:

Sexual dimorphism that changes over time

Sex transitions due to environmental stress

Parthenogenesis (reproduction without sex)

Chromosomal inversion

Intersex expression

Same-sex pairing and parenting

Egg-laying males in seahorses (for the extended cousin crowd)

So if you’re clinging to the idea of “dinosaur gender roles” or “biological essentialism”… my friend (and I'm going to hold your hand when I tell you this), they don’t even know you exist. They were feathered and fluid and glorious and terrifying. And you think they cared about what letter would go on their driver's license?

Dinosaurs were queer-coded by nature. Trans by default. Icons by accident.

You can try to misgender a Deinonychus, but she’s already halfway to the stratosphere, screaming in feathers, and she has never heard of your binary.

Set in a diverging canon after the first game (instead of going to the east with hans, they don't) and spiraling into rebellion, grief, and slow-burn yearning, The Wren is a story about rebuilding after betrayal, choosing love over legacy, and dismantling nobility with nothing but charm and a very stupid feathered hat.

Hans is trying to be useful for once. Henry is trying to carry the world alone. They’re both terrible at feelings.
