small psa on -slop
you may have seen terms ending in -slop going around a lot lately. these terms originate with "goyslop", a term coined on 4chan which proposes that "the jewish elite" are feeding the populace ultra-processed and/or soy-based food to make them weak and subservient.
it's an extension of the great replacement conspiracy theory, which claims that there is a deliberate effort to extinct the white race demographically and/or culturally, often proposed to be perpetrated by jewish people.
please consider carefully whether or not these terms enrich our community.

much less alarmed by the 'cognitive impact' of LLM use than I am by the fact that so many people apparently believe your brain can atrophy or permanently lose function in the space of four months because you used fancy sparknotes to write a couple of essays

now that i've seen semi-recent attempts to revive body-mind discourse, i'm starting to wonder if that fiasco might've been the thing that killed inclusionism. the timeline matches up, does it not? when did everyone else notice that everyone suddenly stopped talking about it/identifying themselves as inclusionist?

not proshipper not anti but a secret third thing (person who has a career in the media and, through covering legislative politics, has watched "associating with problematic fiction or entertainment is an indicator of moral degeneracy" rapidly become a mainstream GOP position that they are encoding in legislation to target the queer community under the guise of protecting children, thus coming to the conclusion that positioning the "can people enjoy things that would be immoral IRL in their fiction" debate as a proship v anti fandom debate is akin to pretending that "should we have the death penalty" is a discussion that only matters in Death Note discourse — the extent and manner to which fiction affects reality is an issue that is immediately relevant to today's US politics, and to summarize my opinions on the matter in fandom terms would be to diminish the ways this debate is affecting america Right The Fuck Now. and i have stopped taking "this person is bad for shipping the wrong anime thing and being horny about it" in any sort of good faith ever since I saw it literally used as part of a GOP smear campaign against a transgender state legislator in an attempt to defend the right from backlash after they used their supermajority in the Montana house to prevent her from speaking on the floor. Anyway I think everyone on this site, especially Americans, could benefit from ceasing to think in proship v anti vocabulary and instead developing coherent political positions on the nature of fiction that do not directly align with current fascist political tactics)

normally my political focus lies pretty squarely in areas i believe are underserved or highly topical, but fuck me if i'm not being tested lately by those who demand that you talk about genocide like it's a natural disaster perpetrated by no one.
they let you express compassion and talk about aid, but oops, every phrase/term/symbol to support the affected population's liberation is conveniently hate speech. every direct action to mitigate or slow the workings of genocide is dangerous or compromised, even the ones targeting arms dealers. only donating to aid orgs on the ground and being the most lukewarm liberal imaginable is in any way acceptable. even peaceful protest is off the menu. at best, you'll get an anecdote about kicking people out of bars that doesn't function on a macro level to utilize guilt by association as a silencing tactic (not that they practice what they're advocating for, either.)
they use the same kind of tricks scammers do to pressure you to act without thinking things through. they'll throw a bunch of history at you that they expect you not to know in the attempt to overwhelm you into compliance (and it is oh-so easy to use facts to spin a narrative so distorted it may as well be an outright lie). they demand immediate allegiance or else they'll DARVO you. it's flatly manipulative. i don't know how anyone tolerates it.
there is insight in feeling out the shape of the absence at the heart of it all. what is not being talked about, and why?

“i’m literally [x identity]” ok and? is what you have to say factually true? do other people of the same marginalized group feel similarly? or are you just proclaiming your identity because you think it’s a better way to say “shut up you have to listen to me”

no, they specifically refer to mobility impairment. let's avoid bringing up the body-mind duality wankfest again.
happy disability pride month
ablebodied people are not cripples, have never been called cripples, and will never be able to “reclaim” cripple
crippled and gimp and lame are slurs that refers to physical impairment. they are not a fun little club or a gender or an outfit that people are “gatekeeping” from you.
they are slurs. they have always been slurs. just because physically disabled people have reclaimed them doesn’t mean ablebodieds get to use them too
hope this helps!

every time someone points out that "reject modernity, embrace tradition" is a literal nazi phrase there's like 4000 white people in the replies who all cry and sob and need to be comforted because their ~comfort meme~ is ~problematic~ and it's very very funny. i say thru gritted teeth
and no, you're not 'taking it from them' when you put it on a funny meme. you are normalizing it. you are helping develop it into a dogwhistle. and you deserve teeth in your grey matter

i might have to make a glossary of terms, or find one from ten years ago, because most of the queer language and theory i stand by has fallen completely out of use and been largely replaced by regressive factional bullshit.
