i know yaz gets a lot of flack for being head over heels w 13 after .05 seconds of meeting her but we really don't talk about how 13 willingly brings yaz back into her family's timeline just because she asked AND goes to extreme lengths to make sure yaz's timeline isn't messed with. she was down bad

"teens are prone to tantrums and are emotionally unstable" - okay, yeah, puberty is real, and emotional regulation is a difficult skill to learn. but also. any adult person would be pissed if their opinions were disregarded, they had no say in what happens to them, their emotions and feelings were downplayed and their privacy were intruded on.

I think I get a little sad when people try to make Adaine and Aelwyn's relationship the same as most older and younger sister with abusive parents in media. Because it isn't. We don't have the typical "oldest daughter who tried to shield the youngest from abuse". To properly understand them we have to understand that Aelwyn was not only a golden child, but participated in Adaine's abuse. She mocked her the same as their parents, which is why when she tried to be sincere for a moment on the first day, Adaine didn't believe or trust her. She tried to kill Adaine in Freshman Year. She set the backup in her mind in a place she knew only Adaine would find because she trusted her to find it, but she never told Adaine out loud that she was anything other than what their parents said she was, and that's important! It's important that she never showed Adaine any actual affection despite clearly knowing how strong she actually was! She would never have changed if not for the fact that their parents' abuse turned on her when they could no longer touch Adaine after abandoning her.

And all of that is important because if you erase that, you erase who both of them are. Aelwyn's first instinct is always to protect herself and what she considers hers. It wasn't until Junior Year that Aelwyn considered Adaine hers. She's a good sister NOW. She's trying to show love to other people NOW. She openly admits that she struggles to put love into anything but her cats. Adaine choosing to forgive and love her shows Adaine's personal strength and compassion. It was not because Aelwyn was anything close to a good sister to her growing up. To quote the show itself, "Despite the fact that you have not earned, I do love you,"

5 whole people liked my post about kipperlilly which means I’m gonna elaborate! Oh this is longer than I intended

Kipperlilly is someone you could find irl. More or less. Shes a middle class girl who’s jealous of those with less privilege because she thinks their trauma gives them a leg up when it really doesn’t. Shes angry because of perceived fairness without realizing just how much the bad kids had to go through.

In freshman year the bad kids nearly died/did die multiple times. Two of them died on the first day of school. They got put in jail for months! I’m not sure we even know why kipperlilly thinks they’re privileged? Is it just that Arther sacrificed himself then helped at the end? Who knows!

But I feel like that ~more or less~ realness is why so many people have differing opinions. If you think kipperlilly should’ve had more nuance that’s great for you. I think she serves exactly the purpose she is meant to and nuance would’ve made her serve that role worse.

For all intents and purposes she really isn’t a big villain. Porter is the main villain. Jace and the rat grinders are his underlings, and i think kipperlilly is the only one who does it willingly. She is there to serve as an opposition to Kristen’s presidential campaign, and to help porter achieve his goals.

If she were given more nuanced she wouldn’t fill the role she had as well. It’s implied as is that porter/jace did manipulate her to an extent. It’s stated that she killed the frost cleric. It’s implied she killed her entire Adventuring party to make them worship the rage god. It’s stated that she willingly accepted and asked for the rage god.

She is not one faced. She cares about her adventuring party to an extent and probably cared more before spring break sophomore year. She is also mad. As adaine said, she’s so upset about being boring but won’t do anything but be mad at other people about it.

Admittedly, adaine’s words aren’t my whole feelings but I feel like they capture my point: her life isn’t how she wants it to be (she wants to be a wonderful adventurer) and instead of doing anything to achieve it (killing her parents, going on more dangerous adventures) she blames others.

There’s something to be said about a character who hates someone because their dad died.

When I say kipperlilly is boring, perhaps I mean she’s as realistic as a rogue who worships a dead god of rage and conquest can be. Stripping her down to motives, you could know someone like her. And I greatly enjoy that. Porter, and kalvaxis, and the nightmare king all have realistic parts but none of them I’d say are people you would often meet.

If you want a hypothetical more nuanced version of her because you think it’d make the story better who am I to tell you you’re wrong? But if you want that just so the bad kids revive her without thinking about the impact it’d have on the story? Ehh. Less valid.

Kipperlilly is boring in the best way and if you think the bad kids would’ve redeemed a hypothetical more nuanced version of her you might be right but who fucking cares. The writing wasn’t overseen by anyone, kipperlilly was like that from the start and honestly if she were more nuanced it would’ve been worse

feeling very normal about marya's reaction to van's hug actually

Every interaction between van and Marya makes me crazy btw. Like every single episode we get new interactions and the familiarity in them despite not seeing each other for a while. The way van cares so deeply for Marya and the way Marya cares just as much but they present in difference ways.

The way Marya immediately says if they want her they need van. The way van says she’s loyal to the nut but if it’s her asking. The way marya insists Bert comes after it’s clear van doesn’t wanna leave him.

The way they hug after the battle, Marya not caring that van is still covered in her own and other’s blood. Marya saying she never worries when van is around. Van doing everything possible to protect Marya.

Like I DO ship them but even if I didn’t I still love their relationship and can’t wait to see how it develops

Siobhan solving that cypher text is the hottest anyone has ever been. I was looking forward to solving it tomorrow morning (because I am a code nerd) and she did it while filming. I love her. I’m not about marriage but Siobhan it’s a proposal on sight.
