Israeli special ops ‘raided Hezbollah missile facility’ in Syria - US media

The New York Times has reported that a team of Israeli forces on Monday targeted a Hezbollah missile production plant near the Syrian city of Masyaf, dropping from helicopters, lacing it with explosives and stealing information.

Axios sources claimed the team was from the Shaldag unit, and plans had been shared with Washington beforehand - meeting no resistance from the White House.

Israel attacked the same facility six years ago, while airstrikes earlier on Monday appear to have been designed to prevent air defense systems or reinforcements thwarting the raid, which Syrian media say left 18 people dead.

Political scientist and international relations scholar John Mearsheimer, speaking to ShanghaiEye, has said that the upcoming US presidential election will have no effect on what is happening in Gaza and that Israel will have the unconditional support of the United States due to the “powerful influence” of the Israel lobby.

Mearsheimer noted US “policymakers and politicians remain firmly committed to Israel because the Israel lobby gives them no choice.” He also highlighted that despite the lobby’s influence over politicians, there is increasing public support for Palestinians.
