yo everyone, i just wanted to ask if auston matthews was problematic or something bc he refused to #take a knee.

i don’t personally think it made him that problematic but it’s very unfair how him being a person of colour (as well as his mother), would not take a knee despite the fact that donald trump has said and done many horrible things to people of the same race as him. i know damn well if i was an athlete and trump did that shit to me, i’d take a knee to his face.

the issues w the nhl & trump

i’m not american. i’m canadian. i know, i know. “you shouldn’t be getting yourself involved with this!1!1!1″

but the nhl was founded on canadian history, people, culture, etc, and so i’m going to speak up about this. as all of you may have noticed recently, a lot more people from the nfl and nba have spoken up about trump and called him out on his shit. not the nhl, though. and why is that? whenever the nhl gets involved with political issues, everyone says “go back to playing the game, who cares about political issues!1!!!” it shouldn’t be like that. people with power, fame, status, and reputation should use their wealth to support oppressed people.  athletes are #takingtheknee because they think what the usa is doing is wrong.  the usa is supposed to be a place of liberty, freedom, independence. however, it isn’t. many african americans are unjustly killed, because of their skin tones. the other day, a deaf spanish american citizen was killed, even after being informed that the guy was DEAF. brown people are called terrorists, and are told that they should die bc of things people who are the same skin colour as them have done. people who come from mexico are being deported, and a lot of dreamers from the daca are being sent back to a place they don’t even know. the other day, a couple was deported, during the surgery of their infant. puerto rico has tragic things happening to it, and there have been catastrophic earthquakes in mexico.  and the potus is arguing with steph curry over petty shit.

today, the pittsburgh penguins chose to go to the white house. people all over social media said “well who cares?? are they not allowed to meet a president they may/may not share the same political views with??”  it’s not as simple as that. not every person on the penguins team is a white, pro-trump athlete. but none of the people on the penguins’ team are poc either. they wouldn’t know what it is like to be racially profiled/targeted. they don’t know the heartbreak when you lose a friend dearest to you, just because they’re undocumented.  they don’t KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE TO BE A PERSON OF COLOUR. honestly, i say we just boycott the nhl lmao, but it’s unreasonable how the nhl just dismisses issues with minorities, because the nhl is mainly white. so yeah, this is why i hate the penguins, and we, as fans, need to speak up about these things!!
