Hi I'm one of those romance-favorable aros that people keep bringing up and I'd just like to say:

Stop using my identity to invalidate my aro siblings

And if you're truly set on making aro characters romance-favorable, then do that!

My experiences are not the same as someone who is alloromantic just because I'm romance-favorable. You can't just slap 'romance-favorable' on an aro character to write them how you would an allo.

Have them grapple with being in a relationship and feeling guilty that they don't feel what their partner feels. Have them have tough conversations with their partner over how they feel and their specific limits. Have them fight the internalized arophobia they feel that tells them they can't really be aro if they're in a romantic relationship.

But for the love of God, stop just slapping 'romance-favorable' on aro characters to ignore the fact that they are aro.

I think it's important to understand that discussions around amatonormativity usually aren't (or shouldn't be) asking people to see their individual romantic relationships as less important, because wanting a long-term monogamous romantic relationship isn't inherently amatonormative.

Amatonormativity is about the bigger picture of how society treats romantic relationships. It's about placing romantic relationships at the top of a hierarchy and then claiming that most meaningful close and intimate connections to other humans are only accessable through them. Amatonormativity is the assumption that everyone wants to end up in a monogamous long-term romantic relationship and then decrying anyone who wants a relationship that doesn't fit into that very narrow category.

Every individual person has to figure out for themselves which types of relationships they desire or don't desire and how much importance they want to give them. Amatonormativity criticizes the fact that that's not a question you are normally asked in the first place, because the answer is always assumed.

I think if in the end someone decides to prioritize their romantic relationships, they will still have defied amatonormativity simply through consciously making that decision, and through not assuming the same for everyone else. To me, dismantling amatonormativity is about deconstructing the assumed hierarchy of relationships, giving people the chance to actually think about what they truly want, and opening the pathways for those possibilities.

I'm technically aroacespec, but I consider myself closer to allosexual than alloromantic, and I fear that's something alloallos won't really understand. I'm more aromantic than I am asexual, despite technically being on both spectrums. Sometimes I forget I'm even acespec because I relate to aroallo so heavily. Am I weird?? Is this weird????

EDIT: This meme is not about aroace people who are sex/date favorable. It's about the people who are constantly using "aroace can still date/have sex" to erase the representation of aroaces that don't feel that way. I don't believe romance/sex repulsed aroaces are better or "superior" to those who are.

I don't mean "I'm going to love every single one" I mean "I'm very picky and I want more of it in circulation so I can actually choose from a wealth of them and be discerning". I see ppl being like "you say you want more of [this thing] but you don't like [example of it]" YEAH CUZ I'M PICKY!!!!!!!! hi I'm so sorry if this is annoying or something, but did you receive an ask about being technically aroace but feeling more connected to aromanticism than asexuality? I completely understand if it's just taking a while to post it, but literally no blog has responded to / posted any of my asks for months and I'm worried Tumblr is just eating my asks. (I guess you wouldn't be able to respond to this if it was, but. If you do see this it'll ease my anxiety? I guess?)

GOOD NEWS AUSSIES

YouTube ban was repealed after the out cry about the American ban and the UK bans!! Aussie government figured it wasn’t worth the trouble anymore!!

Other socials will still be monitored and banned but YouTube is apparently now out of the “we’re going to take your ID” group!!
