Lilo what would you do if Mertle is giving you a hard time?

"I think you mean when, not if."

Yeah, she wasn't as oblivious as she sometimes sounded. Sure, Lilo might still call Mertle one of her 'friends', but it had certainly not escaped her notice that the redhead was terribly good at getting under her skin, usually on purpose.

"But I think I've mostly figured her out by now. She's afraid of Teresa, Yuki and Elena leaving her, which makes her jealous of the close 'Ohana that Stitch and I have. And that's why she can't stand me."

She nodded sagely.

"I drew myself a doctorate, so I'm definitely qualified to diagnose this stuff."

Also just to say, I haven't forgotten this blog! I've just recently been focusing on my RP-writing elsewhere while I waited for my drafts to build up a bit; but I'll get onto queueing up replies again soon, and save them to release them until everything I have here is answered ^^

So, as of last week I can now say that I have officially seen all of Lilo & Stitch: the Series. And it only took me fifteen years since I first started it...!

That said, I'm think as far as my portrayal of Lilo on here goes, I'm only going to treat the events of the series as 'broad strokes'. While I like the show on the whole, I feel like there are a few occurrences too many where Lilo gets given a personality flaw that doesn't line up with my understanding of who she is from the movies, just for the sake of her learning whichever moral the episode wants to teach; it makes it feel like her character is being pulled in too many contradictory directions sometimes.

So, I'm gonna aim to keep my portrayal more consistent with how the movies characterised her; while the general gist of the series and the rehabilitation of the different experiments still happened (/ is happening) as I write her, I'm going to run under the assumption that the specific details didn't always play out the way the series depicted them.

There are, however, a few details about Lilo that were mentioned in the series (or other miscellaneous media) that I intend to adapt into my portrayal. A few specifics are:

Her favourite colour is orange (source: episode Swapper)

Her iconic red dress was a gift from an 'Uncle Joe' (source: episode Glitch)

Her birthday is October 27th (source: the original air date for episode Amnesio, which takes place on her birthday)

Her friendship with Victoria exists (source: episodes Swapper and Snooty)

Her favourite movie franchise is Wasp Mummies (source: various episodes, including Skip and Snafu)

Her favourite fruit is pineapples (source: the Disneypedia guide to Hawaii in the Lilo & Stitch movie DVD bonus features, which is narrated by her and Nani)

Gut

Something Sibling Starters Pt. 2

"...Gee, thanks Spike."

Oh, Annette understood the sentiment. She wasn't oblivious to nuance, she well grasped that it was meant to be a sweet, protective thing, an expression that he'd not let anyone else mock her. She got it.

That didn't mean she cared for the idea of being made fun of by anyone, favourite brother or no. The blue-collared girl prized her dignity too highly for that, would quietly bristle at even good-natured teasing... so even though she got where he was coming from, the sentiment was hardly the reassurance to her that Spike doubtless meant it to be.

Still, though...

She laid her head down on her paws with a soft sigh. She didn't imagine that Spike's line of thought came from nowhere, he'd probably seen - or at least overheard - her recent encounter with some of the other neighbourhood dogs that, to put it mildly, hadn't ended so well for her, and she...

She couldn't be mad at him for trying, at least. At least he, she knew, would never deliberately try and hurt her feelings. Deep brown eyes glanced up at him, reconsidering her response.

"Well, rather you than anyone else," she allowed, relenting enough to give even a small smile his way in the wake of the words, and a little wag of her tail. Her dignity might be precious to her indeed...

But her little brother was even more so. So maybe she would accept the sentiment in the spirit in which is was meant, rather than getting all overly-critical about it.

Narrowed eyes narrowed still further at the series of entirely unsatisfactory answers she was receiving. If Webby was any read of tone at all, it sounded to her like her captive was playing dumb... a fair tactic, actually, but not one that the girl had any intention of being fooled by.

She did, however, have every intention of clarifying the point, whether the fox genuinely needed it or not.

"I didn't say eagle, I said Beagle." She put extra emphasis on her enunciation. "As in, Ma Beagle, local crime boss? She's not exactly low profile; any local thief worth her salt must know who she is."

It was the next part, though, that really convinced Webby that the would-be thief was trying to make a fool of her.

"Oh, nice try."

She also wasn't staying in one spot: now her voice was coming from the fox's other side as Webby circled her.

"You can't convince me you don't know who Scrooge McDuck is: I just caught you breaking into his home. You can tell me what you're after, or we can do this the hard way."

In passing she snatched up the mace she sometimes kept lying around, bounced its spiked head against the wooden floor with a satisfying THUMP to make her point.

The rope prevented Zhen from doing anything but letting the dragging continue, she still couldn't fully make out her foe, but could hear the whaping sound of goose feet... or maybe a duck? The thought of being jumped by someone like Mr Ping just felt embarrasing.

She couldn't linger on that thought for long tho as she felt herself be hoisted up by her legs, not the first time she hung upside down, but the first time tied up. She peeked open her eyes again just as Webby turned on the spotlight, temporarly blinding the fox immediatly, even catching her off guard enough that she didn't even keep up with the feign death masquerade.

"Ugh, what kind of torch is that? she asked out, squinting her eyes in reflex.

When the questioning began, her intial idea was to just lie her way through it but none of the stuff she was asked made enough sense to her to piece together some sort of semi-cohesive story.

She sighed.

"Listen, nobody sent me, I don't know any eagles, matter of fact closest one I know is a crane, and I don't know what a glomgold or scrooge is for that matter. Can I go then?" She said with her usual somewhat dismissive, snarky tone while looking towards the source of the voice.

"On it! You just focus on resting, alright?"

She was already heading that way even before he'd finished speaking. The good thing about the beach house being small: with the bathroom just around the corner from the living room, it was easy to continue the conversation.

"Huh... I guess that actually makes sense."

Up to her elbows in the bathroom cabinet, she raised her voice a little to still be heard as she rummaged around for what she was looking for. Her search didn't take long - the ibuprofen was a little buried under other stuff but not hard to find - and soon she was back in the doorway, packet of tablets in hand.

"I think the government would call it appropriating rather than kidnapping."

Not exactly the time to debate semantics here, of course. She shrugged off the technicality.

"But I guess it comes down to the same thing in the end. Here." She handed the packet to Steven, then placed her hand lightly on his forehead to check if he felt hotter than he should.

"Taking one of those should help with your temperature, as well as any other soreness this is causing."

".....in the bathroom cabinet it doubles as a first-aid box " he smiled softly at his girlfriend "I think my human side is kinda just settling in too...we found out the gems were accidentally rasing me too much....like a gem..... ...." He blinked "I found out why I never went to hospital.....dad was cared of me being turned in kidnapped and dissected.... .... and I'll be honest ...I can see why he was worried...he... didn't trust your mom....at first ... Because he was worried for me" he looks shy

“We had a very specific arrangement about bunk bed custody.”

“Would. You. Get. Off. Me?”

“I’m the only one who gets to make fun of you.”

“That wasn’t fair!”

“Uhg just… uhg… parents.”

“Shhh I’m hiding from you know who.”

“______ said it’s my turn!”

“Did you eat my snacks? You’ve broken the sacred code.”

“Why are all the pillows from my bed gone?”

“No don’t give me your germs. No I don’t want the sickness.”

“I’m not touching you. Nope not touching you.”

“Shared birthdays are the worst…”

“I think it’s my turn to be ______ today.”

“Did we all get called or did we just have all our names cycled through again?”

“I can’t believe we got confused with the pets again.”

“This is a job we can handle, so long as no one speaks a word of it.”

“Uhh… the kitchen might be a war zone and it’s not my fault.”

“I need to borrow your thing. You know the thing.”

“You stole my shower time!”

“I am not getting up, deal with it.”

“Here, I kind of grew out of this and I now hand it down to you.”

“You’re giving this to me? But this was your favourite…”

“Can I borrow like… a twenty… no questions asked?”

“I need advice and not from parents.”

“Yeah yeah you were right all along now please help me get rid of the evidence.”

Lilo have you heard of the what if scenario 🤔?

"Uh, yeah. That's what you get when you look at your favourite movie and say what if, instead of the Wasp Mummies being defeated when they were sprayed with flammable insect repellent and then lit on fire, it actually made them stronger instead?!"

"And then they continued their rampage as FLAMING WASP MUMMIES THAT BURNED EVERYTHING THEY TOUCHED? Nowhere would have been safe from them! They'd conquer the world!"

She sighed, winding down from her enthusiastic outburst.

"Seriously, it was such a cop-out ending to have them get beaten that easily..."

"Oh, I mean, sure. Totally no pressure. Just thought she'd like t' learn that she's got a friend in your world, you know?"

Her smile was only small, but her words sincere. It was kinda weird to think of, honestly. An alternate timeline sounded fine, in theory, until you thought of where you yourself had ended up in that timeline.

"She'll probably still live halfway across the country, back where Garnet found me. I'll point out my old school on a map sometime, it'll be the best starting point to look for her."

Back to the moment, though. Right.

"You got it! That candy's gonna be wondering where we've got to if we take much longer getting to it, right?"

Giving Spinel a pat on the arm that was meant to be reassuring, the girl spun on one foot to point back in the direction they'd been going.

The request was unexpected, and it slightly took the Gem off guard for a moment. Whether or not Garnet had ever adopted anyone was a clear no. But...she didn't know if Vanellope even existed in her timeline; she had never met her before coming here. It was still a possibility; there were a lot of people on Earth.

"I...I can try. I can't promise anything, but I'll try my best."

The atmosphere felt heavy with responsibility, now that Spinel had agreed to the request. She was worried she wouldn't be able to fulfill the request. What then? Would she be sincere, but risk hurting Vanellope's feelings, or would she opt for a white lie that could be discovered at any time? The Gem tried not to think about it too much; after all, she hadn't even left this timeline yet.

"We..should focus on the present, for now." It was more directed at herself than anything.

...Well, okay.

That was... not good, she wouldn't say that, but. At least this was something that she knew how to deal with: it wasn't some Gem problem way out of her league where all she could do was pat Steven on the shoulder until it got better, it was a pretty regular illness. And if Mom had taught her anything at all, it was how to handle such illnesses.

"Honestly I didn't even know you got sick; I kind of figured your healing powers would cancel it out. Do they really not help?"

She wasn't judging him if not, of course. But when her boy had literally kissed her eyesight to full 20/20 vision - and, according to Mom's x-ray, been subconsciously healing his own fractures his whole life - it was... surprising to find that those powers couldn't help with something as simple as a common cold.

Not the most important question right now though, Connie, she reminded herself.

"The best thing you can do for flu is get a lot of rest, and keep warm and well hydrated. Don't worry, I'll stay here and look after you. Do you keep any ibuprofen in the house...?"

She'd guess not, based on her understanding that Gems didn't get sick. But it never hurt to check...

"Uh-huh... that could be pretty interesting, actually."

Slowing in her scamper ahead to keep pace with Spinel, Vanellope half turned to look at her gem friend back over her shoulder. Candy was still the first thing on her mind right now - was it ever not, in some form? - but she had to admit it; Spinel raised a curious subject. The human girl really hadn't given the matter much thought before.

"Well..." she counted off on her fingers. "We know that Mom's wedding didn't end up getting crashed by the Diamonds in your world, for one. An' I'm guessing Garnet didn't adopt an adorable misfit kid in yours, either, so that's two..."

Wow, she sincerely felt sorry for that world's Vanellope, in all truth. Any version of her who didn't have as great of a mom as Garnet was seriously missing out... not to even mention, was probably still bein' bullied to heck and back by the kids back in her old town.

"...say, the me in your timeline's probably a pretty miserable kid, if that's the case. When you get back there, you wouldn't go an' find her an' cheer her up a bit, would you...?"

Was that a weird request? Probably; but it sounded like alternate-her probably needed it.

The Gem followed without another word about the topic, but she was still making a mental note about remembering to pay Vanellope back when she could.

The silence didn't last long, though. "I'm really curious what the differences between our timelines are." Some of them were obvious, like the fact the temple room didn't have a room for Spinel in this timeline. She wondered what had happened to the Spinel of this timeline. Had Vanellope mentioned it already? Possibly, but she couldn't remember

CHARACTER BUILDING : An Interview to Your Muse !

"Hey, y'know, I'd be happy to go most places really. S'long as there's fun stuff to do and it's with some of the family I've got here." The little girl swung her legs idly, gaze climbing skyward as she contemplated the question. Honestly, she didn't see herself as a fussy kid, at least in this regard.

"I mean, I didn't even get to go on vacations before Garnet adopted me. Mr. Bill, my previous guardian, might'a had the money to afford it but never had any time to spare, what with his fancy job an' all. 'n I wasn't exactly miss popular with any'a the other kids lining up to have me join in on theirs..."

Understatement of the century, that... but Vanellope had got very good at not dwelling on her past.

"With Garnet an' the family, though? Whole different story. I guess we do day trips more than full vacations... though when you can warp to basically anywhere on Earth at a moment's notice, they're pretty extreme day trips. But longer vacations are neat too; who doesn't like to explore a new place, right?

"I especially like going where there are activities to do, ones that really get the blood pumping... places that have go-karting or climbing courses, things like that. Who wants to just sightsee, you know? I mean, it's fine; but give me some real action alongside it..."

"But, dream vacation, you say..."

Oh, it was clear as anything from her expression that Vanellope had something in mind; she was just drawing out the moment for dramatic effect.

"Okay, so I don't have a specific place, there're a bunch that this could apply to. But hear me out: one of those cities that hold BIG street circuit racing events."

"Can you just IMAGINE being right in the middle of one of them?! The cars, the speed, th' crowds going wild! It's my absolute dream to race those professionally when I'm old enough to drive - no boring circle tracks, but out in the real world! - an' getting to see 'em even now, up close an' personal? It'd be me, Mom an' Steven, mostly. Amethyst'd probably find it a great time too; an' I don't wanna leave Pearl out but I dunno it's really her scene. We'd stay like a week an' get to see all the race preparation too, check out the route, really get to know the place beforehand, then climax it with seeing the actual race..."

Yeah, she thought about this a lot sometimes...

"Ah, it'd just be the best."

Looking through my Vanellope icons for writing a post, and coming across the section with the ones from the Broken Karted scene, always be like:

"You can actually pinpoint the second when her heart rips in half"...

She never got tired of alien hugs, honestly. Big grin stretched the young Hawaiian's face wide as she accepted the embrace, still ruffling Yaarp's fur fondly at the same time.

Of course she was as glad as ever to hear that one of her charges was doing well. She had almost worried that he may have been getting bored, what with alien invasions not being a pressing concern now that Gantu was on their side and Hamsterviel and his Leroys were all locked away; so she was pleased to hear that wasn't the case.

(That said, she was prepared to make attempt number 2 at finding a new One Place They Truly Belonged if things really weren't working out for any of the cousins. So far, she was happy to report still a 100% success rate, but it never hurt to have a plan.)

Surprise touched her face for a moment as she mentally translated Yaarp's request - she was getting better at understanding tantalog but still wasn't fluent - before giving way to an excited gasp.

"Of course I can teach you! We can start right away!"

It was still rare enough to get to share her interests with someone other than Stitch that Lilo was absolutely thrilled by the prospect. It couldn't possibly go wrong not like Stitch's first dancing lesson, could it?

Yaarp would scamper up to Lilo on two sets of arms and his legs. Then he would stand up on his feet to give the little girl a huge with all four arms. He was so happy to see her! "It.. good!" Yaarp would answer the child, then give off a small honk of his antennae, keeping it low in volume so it wouldn't hurt Lilo's ears.

"Not busy, naga" he would continue with a couple shakes of his head, dangling ears flapping along as he did so. Then the teal-colored alien would release Lilo from his hug. There was a question he wanted to ask. Clearing his throat, Yaarp would say "Li-lo.. spubata.. Yaarp, hula?" What Yaarp was trying to say was 'Lilo teach Yaarp hula?'
