Here's my latest work! Ajaro is a land embroiled in warfare and turmoil. The short-lived Oyenian Empire that dominated these lands has been fractured into four primary principalities, all ruled by the rival members of the House of Haleceryx. The empire's laws were unclear about the succession of Narkalna the Expander, who's conquering conflicts had physically mended the realm together, but who's subsequent tyrannical policies pushed both nobility and layfolk away. Narkalna had divided the realm into four states as a measure of control, marrying his two sons, his daughter and his niece to the local nobility and securing them as the governors of those realms.  Whilst Narkalna was feared, he was resented by most. Narkalna's mother had been Queen of Ajaro. Ajaro was the name of the realm which existed before the beginning of the 'Inheritance War', which only encompassed the central valleys and the western cities. Each of the smaller principalities would react differently to the death of King Narkalna. The Bowyer Rebels of Phialhood immediately toppled the government of Haleceryx, reinstating their traditional leader, Umara the Blindsided as Queen of Kel-Avyd and Protector of the Gorges. The Spearheads of Mournir and Harnir raised their banners for their new Haleceryx lord, Janakalna and went immediately to war to claim the throne at Morderth. They were joined by Gulleners from the north. The staves on the map represent once powerful cities which were exclusively governed by ether-weavers which are now little more than university-towns. And here we are in 2021 at last and I've got a brand new semi-blank map ready to start the year off! So this one is a biggie for me as this is the first A3-sized map that I've managed to complete and I'm pleased with how it has turned out. I didn't add a great deal of lore to this one so feel free to use it and add some history to if you would like! Also, please let me know if any of you folks are keen for a commissioned map like this. Merry Christmas all! I know it's been a crazy year, but it's nearly at an end. I have high hopes that the new year will bring with it some better news. At the start of this year, I felt quite stuck and although things aren't quite where I want them to be yet, I have a good feeling that things are going to improve. I finally used my watercolours! -- Salano is a land of intrigues, magic and desolation. The grand cast-foundries of the eastern Arkenbyre Mountains use the seismic and volcanic energy within the deep-world not only to craft wondrous devices, but likewise to dredge up an otherwise barren set of lands along the southern coasts which can yield exotic harvests. The riddled mangroves and flummoxing volcanoes are ruled from the onyx city of Yuxintha by the Brine-robed Witches, who possess a unique magic that allows them to never be seen. Their voices however are said to cross the straits between the barren deserts and the life-riddled marshes, luring fortune-seekers and would-be bargain-hunters alike into the midst of the Spire Port. The western Kingdoms of Haldemic and Trendoric are recent political entities. Across the oceans to the west reside the heartlands of these colonies. Marketan and Tetheron attempted to build stable autonomous empires in far-flung parts of the world in their bid to increase their influence in distant markets. Fortunately for the colonies, the two states were able to break free in a mutual war against their mother countries despite their linguistic and religious differences. Now they merely compete against the desert-dwelling Ordixema. Ordixema is the grand kingdom residing across the Voltifer Ranges. Its inhabitants are the Xemanaur, a unique species that thrives in hot, dry climates, which allows them to live comfortably in the otherwise labelled "Dustgrain wastelands" of the south-east. These folk have dwelled in these lands for hundreds of years. They despise the luscious greens of the west and northern peninsula, happy to spend their time among the sands and rocky outcroppings where it is said their gods once lived. Ordixema is not unwelcoming however, allowing inhabitants from the kingdoms of the north to trade in their lands. Istitria is a land of opportunities and extensive markets! Each of the small kingdoms stand united only by their economic rivalry and mutual cooperation. When the grand trade fleets from faraway Qoi'sathe arrive in the mostly enclosed straits of the region, all ports become colourful spectacles of festivities and decadence. Once every year (or sometimes few years), the vast trade fleet crosses the equator when the waters are relatively calm from dreadstorms. Such voyagers come with countless wares, spices and rare resources that cannot be replicated in the realms of Istitria. The warehouses at the ports become burdened by eager merchants and enthusiastic marketeers, grateful to exchange the bounties aboard their vessels for profit in gems, jewels and other, more nefarious devices. Istitria is home to special magical animals that have been domesticated by the arcane herders. When taken away from these lands, they unfortunately lose their life essence and die, making them a rarity. Whilst airships rise and fall across lifeless deserts in the south-east, they are unable to wield large loads or to travel over the oceans. They too are given their power by the energy existing beneath the continents of Istitria. -- In case anyone is interested, I am currently open to taking commissions for overworld fantasy maps! Spontaneously finished this one about a week ago! Trying to work on making the maps feel less homogenized. I tried a colourized border idea but I want to work harder at it in the future. At last I finished this rough map of Nogolanhir.  I was perhaps a little ambitious when I started this months ago and decided it would have some kind of colourful border of 'banners'. Very mixed results, but I wouldn't be against doing it again. XD Might just stick to the more broken border I've employed before for the next one though. Really happy to have finished this one. It's been standing menacingly since I took a huge tangent to start writing a story. As far as lore goes for this one, there is actually a whole document dedicated to it. The reason why the map might look a little bit more Tolkien-esque (with the Mordor-looking land to the east) is because I had designed it to be a typical 'elves, humans, dwarves' world, something which I almost never do (despite the many temptations). I based these designs on the Japanese battleships of WW2 mixed with the paddle wheels of the SS Great Eastern. They are meant to be a kind of mixed Dreadnought-Battleship but Steampunk-esque too. Here is a small collection of landship and airship designs from my world project of Norios (the Clockworld). I enjoyed developing the ideas for these vehicles in Norios despite their dreadful purposes. They are truly terrible machines, but they make up part of the history for what went so terribly wrong in the past. The vehicles were built and used to unify an entire continent under the banner of a once extinct empire and many lives paid the ultimate price for it. The Grand Wars are based partly on the Napoleonic Wars and the First World War, but in a scenario where the conqueror is victorious.
