TBT: So NFL QB Aaron Rogers has revealed that he saw a UFO back when he was in college - and he's not joking. I believe him, because I saw one too: I, my sister, and even my mom saw a classic "flying saucer" disk-type UFO hovering over our neighborhood one summer night in 1975. It was black against the sky and had the illuminated porthole lights along the side so you could see it was rotating. It was low to the ground, moving slowly, literally hovering, just above rooftop level. It was totally silent. At it's closest it was almost directly over us. We were frozen. Or at least I was. Then in the blink of an eye, it was half a mile away in the sky, moving east. and then, zip, it was gone. Here's the wierdest part: The next morning at breakfast, none of us spoke of it. And we never, ever spoke of it after that, amongst ourselves, or to others. We forgot about it within a week. Many years later, long after my mom died, my sister said, "Do you remember that night we saw the UFO?" and I was like, "Holy shit, yes! I had forgotten about it!" She recounted what she could remember, which was much more than I remembered. Apparently the saucer got much closer to us than I recalled. Like, it SAW us. 100% true. So yes, Aaron Rogers - thanks for reminding me of my buried memory. It happened. The funny thing is, even now, when people ask me if I believe in UFO's I'm like, "Nah....not really." (But the X Files WAS my favorite show...) ‪#‎thatexplainsalot‬ #drewciferstonezone

Audio
Produced by Drew Townson and Dave Foley, it's the new hot track by Dave & The Shades, featuring a phantom guitarist known only as El Reverbo. Recorded and mixed at Keep The Edge Studios, Quincy, by Drew, and Ed. Song written by Dave Foley, all copyrights reserved.
Recorded live in the studio all in one room. We used two vocal mics on Dave - his own mint RCA 77DX and a Wunder CM67. Upright bass was mic'd only w/ a Wunder CM7, we used Royer 121's on the guitars and the snare was a Beta 57. The RCA we overdrove in the mix, wanting it to sound like an old Shure Vocal-Master PA being pushed in to distortion, and the Wunder 67 we kept clean. The only overdub was my twangy Fender guitar track. Since the drums and all were right by the vocal mic in the big room, there's a ton of spill of snare in to the vocal mics. So when we added the slap and distortion to the RCA track, it effected the snare in a huge way. Check out in the intro the first two chord stabs the RCA track is muted so the snare is pretty clean and tight, then when the main riff kicks-in I opened up the RCA and the snare totally explodes. It's awesome!

The Almighty and Hallowed Church Mic. Amen!
Stanley Church was the chief sound engineer for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in the mid 1950s. He purchased a number of M7 capsules and grilles from Gotham Audio, the Neumann distributor for the US, and built his own custom-made version of the famed U47 tube condenser mic. The 'Church' mic was meant for exclusive use on the MGM soundstages, and to that end it has a smaller body and different shockmount system than a U47, custom made by the MGM machine shop. Used on all the great musicals from MGM in the late 50s and early 60s. If you liked Sinatra's singing in the musical 'High Society', that was a Church mic. One of them also appears on the cover of "The Concert Sinatra" album, one of Frank's greatest recordings with bandleader Nelson Riddle.
A set of three Church U47's were famously used by Everest Records in the early 60s to record classical music on their 35mm magnetic film series. Still treasured today for their incredible sound fidelity, the sound of these early mono and stereo (3 track) recordings were due in large part to the use of the Church mics. After Everest changed management, they sold their equipment to Bob Fine & co., and these mics were later used for the 'Command Classics' series of recordings as well.
Somewhere along the line, this custom microphone was dubbed the "CineMic", but it is doubtful that Mr. Church referred to it by this name. The mic has a unique high-voltage circuit which, combined with the GE 6072 tube, gives it a sound all its own.  The total number of these mics that were manufactured is unknown, but is certainly no more than 200, as Mr. Church was only able to purchase that many parts before Neumann discovered what he was doing, and promptly stopped sending him components. Legend has it that Gotham refused to sell Neumann parts to engineers in the U.S. for 30 years because of what Stanley was up to!
