Although I do not believe in the concept of a pope, or many of Pope Francis’ actions, Pope Francis was a good man who used his last days on earth to call for a Gaza ceasefire, lecture cruel political leaders about the necessity of compassion, and call Israel a terrorist state.
Pope Francis was not perfect, but he did try to defend lgbtq+ rights, contraception, and feminism in a largely conservative field.
We may have lost our greatest possible option. The conservative Church will likely never elect another pope as compassionate and liberal as him.
He died after completing the Holy Week, a perfect ending to his life. God bless his soul, may he enjoy eternity in the light.
