Bayda (1968) - Hryhoriy Synytsia
Bayda, the legendary figure in Ukrainian folklore, is based on the historical Dmytro Vyshnevetsky, a 16th-century Ruthenian noble and military leader who founded the first Cossack fortress on Khortytsia Island, laying the groundwork for the Zaporizhian Sich. Though a real figure, he was transformed in Ukrainian dumy (epic songs) into a heroic Cossack warrior who defied the Ottoman Sultan, refused to abandon his faith when offered to marry the Sultan's daughter, and was martyred in captivity. Hung on a hook and tortured, Baida remains defiant until death, symbolizing unbreakable spirit and the fight for freedom of the Cossacks. Through this legend, he became a lasting emblem of Cossack bravery and Ukrainian resistance to tyranny.

A Humanitarian Appeal from a Grieving Mother
I am Hanadi from Gaza, the mother of a family of five. Our house was bombed, and in an instant, my daughter was lost under the rubble. My second daughter was seriously injured, resulting in the amputation of her leg.

We are living in extremely difficult conditions today, and we need urgent assistance to secure treatment and provide for our basic needs after we have lost everything.

"This is a portrait of beautiful Nazerke Abilkasymova, an accomplished young woman with degrees in psychology and primary education. Nazerke currently works as an educator, employing advanced and innovative teaching methods to enhance her students learning experiences. Many of her students have excelled in various academic competitions. Although Nazerke is a woman of the modern era, she remains deeply proud of her Kazakh heritage. In this photo portrait she wears a striking Kazakh hand embroidered attire."

Painting to Dress Match-up: Queen Maria's portrait and her Romanian traditional outfits

A 1924 photograph of artist Philip de László, Queen Maria of Romania and the royal portrait by de László, London, England

Philip de László (Hungarian, ) • Queen Maria of Romania • 1924
I'm only today beginning to read about her, though it appears from photographs as well as a couple of existing gowns, that she was a very well dressed woman.

Court Dress worn by Queen Maria of Romania for the Coronation of her cousin Nicholas II of Russia • 1896 • Maryhill Museum of Art, Goldendale, Washington.
She was passionate about Romanian folk art and costume. There are number of photos online of Maria in traditional Romanian outfits, which were her preferred attire for daytime wear.
