First day of uni thoughts ☕

Going to post here more often since the new academic year started. At a certain point during summer I realised that my creative side is widely disregarded throughout the academic year, so I've decided to give more space for my projects instead of trying to keep up with my studies. In retrospect I realised that this decision made me feel much better and for the first time in years I start a school year without being burnt out in advance!

This year we've chosen our specialisations within the field of french language studies. I chose the more theoretical approach, so now I'm going to have subjects like the linguistics of text, cognitive linguistics and theoretical grammar. Personally for me it sounds really fun, but unfortunately I don't appreciate the methods of teaching that are prevalent amongst our professors. The post-soviet (i'm ukrainian) practice of "learn as much as you can in a little time as possible" was really unhelpful during the first two years and I doubt it'll change during the third. If possible I'll try to do some self study to better understand the subjects but I really hate not being able to rely on my uni when it comes to quality education.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes. Being in an underfunded academic field in a country with a history of oppression in humanities really puts certain things into perspective tho ngl.

Last two years in uni were hellish because I couldn't communicate my health problems with the staff. I'm gonna try and do it right away this year and get the administration involved, cause otherwise my professors won't really care.

02.08 -> summer self study

Let's just say I really didn't have the opportunity to tackle my academic interests in the past couple of weeks. After travelling with my family and my bf, well.... my psychosomatic nausea decided to come back and torture me for a couple days straight. My family decided that it's best I go to the country and try to relax there (such a 19th century type of healing practice ngl). It did indeed help abd I finally had the motivation and time to continue reading. I'm very slow with this book, partially because I have to take notes after each chapter but I rarely have the opportunity to do it.
