18.07. -> summer self study
It's the last day of my mountain retreat with my family. I haven't been doing much apart from hiking and playing video games, but I'm actually glad that I had the opportunity to properly relax and not care about academia that much. That said I did manage to do some latin today ✨

I work so hard on fixing my burn out, on trying to overcome my depression, to manage my adhd, to stop existing on autopilot and actually try and find joy, but then I remember that despite whatever I do there's still a war going on in my country and everything in my life has changed since it began. Nothing will ever be the same and it'll take years for my nervous system to renew itself, if it ever manages to do so. No working around my mental illnesses or my childhood traumas will help me overcome my issues as long as my country is being destroyed. And I'm just expected to live through it and be a productive person, just like everyone else. Because we have to be resilient and unbreakable. But oh how hard it is to be both when you're human. I love my land and I love my people, I wish we could all just get a break from being killed and destroyed.

I was surprised to learn that most of the patterns on the clothing were woven during the making of fabric. And I don't mean that the fabric was fully covered in a woven pattern but even individual detached patterns were woven. Painted or embroidered patterns are much less prevalent. I mean it makes absolute sense to weave patterns, if you're a skilled maker it'll probably take less time and effort that any additional decorating steps. I guess from a pov of a modern person working with a loom just seems like a daunting task and that's why it surprised me.
Just spent two hours reading about textile production in Ancient Greece (from Minoan to Classical ages) and unfortunately realised that I'll probably never be involved enough to make a historically accurate ancient garment cause I don't feel like the loom is gonna be the wisest financial decision for me

what you learn from hobbies:
consistent practice opens up whole worlds of skill that you couldn't imagine
making mistakes in the process of learning is not only natural, it is also essential
activities that you enjoy can give you more energy back than you spent on them
wow everything is so expensive

09.07. -> summer self study
✓ finished another chapter of the book I'm currently reading
✓ did some research on resources to study ancient greek cause I'm thinking about starting it as well
Other productive stuff ✨
Most of the day I spent cleaning and organising. I've been too burnt out to properly clean my room since the beginning of summer, but I will be starting some handmade projects soon and they require space, so I finally got the motivation to do that ✊
Also I organised all of my postcards, catalogues, brochures and stickers into a binder. At last they are neatly stored in one place... unlike.... before....

07.07 -> summer self study
✓ finished another unit in my latin textbook
I wasn't too academically productive in a recent couple of days cause I've spent time with my friends and my partner. But! I did go to see a play and spent a whole day talking mostly about literature with my good friend :>
I've decided I'll start listening to a free course on art history as well, since latin seems to be going smoothly and I don't think I'll be too overwhelmed with another subject

Last couple of days were fun cause I've only worn my chiton for the majority of time, came back to learning latin, my friend made me listen to epic the musical and yesterday I went to see a rendition of Aeschylus' "Prometheus bound".
Accidentally got plunged into antiquity a little too hard.
