To be honest, I love drawing for other people, whether it's a request, art trade or a traditional commission thing - but there's always the same issue I keep stumbling upon: I never finish the initial concept. When the painting is almost done, I get this "you can come up with something much better" idea, and I start over again, and again. It's an awful habit but I'm working on it, since I'd love to come back to working on commissions and art trades again.

Anyway, this piece was created for an art trade; I spent some time on trying to work out the wings placement (she's supposed to be a tiefling, not an elf!) but every time they seemed to ruin the composition. Oh well.

This is one of the fastest paintings I have done recently - it took only several days to finish. Due to my constant problem of perfectionism, finishing an art piece takes from 2 to 5 weeks - although I feel I'm not the only one experiencing this issue.

We often spend a lot of time on something, only to get stuck at one point only because there’s something we don’t really like - and we can’t even tell what exactly is wrong. The worst part? Since we already spent so much time working on it, we want to ensure the artwork turns out great, so all the hard work wasn't in vain. After falling into this neverending vicious cycle, it's no longer possible to take joy in the creative process. And here we are, dreading the very thought of starting a new painting.

I've been thinking about this lately, and I started to think about the way I look at other people's artworks. Do I check if the values are correct? Of course not. What do I do when I notice some mistakes? Nothing, since the creator didn't ask for a critique. And here's the thing - is it worth spending so much time on creating 3 alternative versions because you're not sure which colour palette looks better? In any case, I can assure you that in several months you'll look back at your painting and think "Wow, so many things don't look good here".

Right now I already see some things I would change but it's time to shift from painting "as best as I can" to "as well as I could at that moment".
