I’m still alive!! Sorry for being so inactive, Tumblr followers! I’ve been swamped with school and life lately, and it was just more convenient to post to my Facebook page more often (which you can visit here https://www.facebook.com/artofpattiramos).
Anyway, hope you’re all doing well! Here’s some of the stuff I’ve been working on from last year while I was away! :))

Panatang Makabayan (Instructional comic plate) Ink & Photoshop, 2015.
The Patriotic Oath is recited as implemented by the Department of Education’s Department Order No. 8, approved on July 21, 1955. The Oath, known as the Panatang Makabayan in Filipino, was revised in November of 2001 by former Secretary of Education Raul Roco.
What started out as a class requirement turned out to be the answer to a very elementary question - "How do you show love for your country?" I never thought I'd take exhibiting my nationalism through what I love doing or through what I believe I can do best so seriously. This piece (the final product is a one-sheet booklet) I started out with a lot of adult themes, but since the project was aimed for kids, Sir DJ advised that I make it more kid-friendly. My main personal objective was to show as much of Philippine culture through the eyes of children as possible... and while what I was able to fit in is just the tip of the iceberg, I hope this tiny comic succeeds in resonating with the youth and inspiring them to truly love their country. :)

This is my four-part plate for VC22, wherein we were assigned to take the barcode and incorporate it into a design or illustration. I chose the theme marginalized sectors/people in Philippine society.
(clockwise from top-left) “Iskwater”, “Katutubo”, “Magsasaka”, “Katutubo (colored)” from “Seryeng Barcode” (2015) Digital.

The upper halves of character designs for a storybook project about rainbows that I’m illustrating. I had the idea to incorporate Filipino indigenous people and precolonial aesthetics with each of their designs - I hope it works well. :D
Done with Illustrator. (2015)

I badly needed a break from required art so I drew my friend Simone's poem, Soledad's Prayer, which is also one of my favorite pieces from her ever. It's about priests who fell in love with their parisihioners during the Spanish occupation, although this humble piece of fanart cannot fully encapsulate the feels that her poems give me. :)) Plus, I had such a hard time picking visuals and a favorite line.
Soledad's Prayer (c) Simone Textures from deviantArt Layout reference from a Google Images painting I found when I searched for "Catholic confession"

Digital painting isn't really my forte, plus I haven't done it in a while, so I'm actually surprised with how well this came out for me. Must've been the acrylic plate. Still need a lot of practice, though. "Pygmalion", 2015, Photoshop Based on Liar's song Pygmalion (the music video is pretty rad too -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upDIZjGWY4s) but I am also Greek Mythology's Pygmalion always (I use his theme all the time).

I posted this on Instagram earlier with the caption "kind of dangerous" because, for one, I have not exactly completed watching the original material.
When we were watching Back to the Future (I for the first time) with my cousins recently, I blurted out, "If they had a remake I bet Doc Brown would be Asian." And so this - racebent BTTF - happened, with a Japanese Doc and Afro-American Marty and George and Lorraine and Latina Jennifer. Or I also thought about Latina Lorraine. Her name would be Lorena Ibanez or something. And BTTF3 would be Doc being transported to 18th century Japan, or something. Oh, the possibilities! (Sketch + Photoshop, 2014)

(I apologize for this entry being in Filipino because I kind of made an oath to myself to speak in the language until the month ends, August being our Buwan ng Wika or Month of Language. I'm not going at it perfectly, but it gives me great practice and shows how much we Filipinos don't even use our national language that much. Cray.)

Anong ganap sakin ngayon?
Hehe. Totoo naman eh.

My (really kind of rushed) contribution to #salimbalsketches‬, an Ifugao-inspired magical girl (the theme this week is "Philippine-themed Magical Girl" or#PinoyMagicalGirls) with different elements from different tribes in the Central-Luzon regions. (Except the bangs, which are more prevalent in the T'boli, I think??)
No cultural appropriation intended, etc, all for fun and inspiration and creativity only and such. Photoshop, 2014.

Kind of obsessed with this brilliant webseries right now - a vlog adaptation of Much Ado About Nothing in NEW ZEALAND (what more could you want!) - and I was kind of desperate to make fanart right away, sooo… Please go check it out on Youtube, friends. (If there are any inaccuracies, I apologize - we lost power and I had no reference for like 60% of making this :(()
