The Dormant God

This was my entry for the Atomhawk Art Competition 2023. The brief was "Under Strange Suns" and I figured that was the perfect chance to make a cosmic eldritch entity. I had the idea of making the entity the strange sun itself while it was the host to numerous planetary systems. It's using a sun as a yolk sac, the asteroids mimic eggshells and holds a fetal position all to indicate that it has yet to awaken. It definitely delves into the realm of cosmic horror if you think about how the people on the planets may never see it in its entirety, may see parts of its limbs as part of their sky and what happens when the god finally awakens. But space has always been inherently horrifying.

I learned a lot by making this and it pushed my skills and creativity as well as being a great deal of fun (if a cosmic entity isn't fun to make with an underlying sense of dread, you're probably doing something wrong) so I plan on entering next year as well. Thank you to Atomhawk for being kind enough to host this competition!

The contrast between Zagreus hating Hades and leaving vs. Melinoe hating Kronos and saving Hades is really funny to me so I had to draw it. So is the upgrade from killing dad to killing grandpa

"To Your Eternity" "An Eternity Without You" "For the Eternity You Dreamed Of"

I made a series of illustrations showing Ei's joy with her sister, the grief of losing her and Ei's determination to move forward for her country and her sister's dream.

I actually did the first two pieces beginning of this year and only did the third piece recently. I wanted to portray the pain of losing a loved one for eternity, but needing to move forward regardless in their memory.

I did this series of portraits for Ahmed Aldoori‘s character portrait tutorial and decided to use my favorite Alchemy Star characters to practice color and lighting.

Made this for N7day , wish I could touch up the last two, but this will do. While it is more somber tone than N7 day feels like, it shows the experiences of Shepard and Garrus with their survivor’s guilt, honoring the dead and sharing the memories which I suppose is another way to celebrate.

Made the Alchera piece last year because Shepard walking around in the wreck of the first Normandy was deeply sorrowful, I could imagine her drinking in front of the monument, honoring the dead.

Then I thought it would be nice to do a companion piece with Garrus on Omega. I imagine after 3 big merc leaders died in Archangel’s base, there would be superstitions and rumors surrounding it that the base is left untouched by the mercs. But I can also see people stopping by with funeral offerings to honor and pay respects to the team who fought for them and this is the sight Garrus comes back to as he drinks in their memory.

The last piece is a scene where Shepard and Garrus are drinking in Shepard’s cabin, discussing their trauma and old stories and recuperating together. Something that would have likely happened even if it was shown in game, after all, they trust each other greatly and have a similar shared experience as sole survivors. They’ve been through a lot much and likely would have leaned heavily on each other.

Made art of FemShep and Garrus in celebration Mass Effect: Legendary Edition releasing yesterday. Had to draw tribute to one of best universes I’ve seen along with one of my favorite pairings. There’s no Shepard without Vakarian.
