Julie Pelckmans is an animation student in Hochschule Luzern - Design und Kunst (Lucerne School of Arts and Design). She recently finished her first semester. For the upcoming semester, she will specialize in Stopmotion.
Jacqueline Carter is a first Semester Animation Student at the HSLU, were she is currently working on a CG project.
She was tasked to go through the process of designing and making a Character which she can animate.
The Character she came up with is a hybrid between a human and a dragon. Until now she was able to make a character concept, sculpt the figure in Blender and ZBrush and topologize it.
At the moment of our interview Jacqueline was worried though. Because her Laptop had crashed, which may mean that she lost a lot of her work.
Jacqueline chose to do CG instead of her normally preferred 2D animation, because it’s very current with upcoming technology. She was also very thankful for the inputs she got during her first semester CG introduction.
To minimize animating difficulties, she made her character not wear clothes, but have scales instead. This only brought up a different problem though, because now she has to work with Normal Mapping to get the detailed scales, but still have a lower poly model. Another two difficulties to animate will be the open hair and the tail.
But she will not let herself get scared off by these challenges!

This is my finished bust of the Forrest Witch I had designed. I think she turned out great even though the hair may have needed more work.
But just because the deadline has passed, doesn’t mean I can’t keep working on her. ;)
WIP So I had this idea a while ago. It’s a story about a forest witch, who is part deer and part human. She was a woman who died in a swamp/pond in the middle of a forest. There a deer brought her back to life, by a magical touch. Since then she has been the caretaker and protector of said forest.
Here you can see the Stop Motion project which I’m currently working on. It’s a short story about a Turnip Farmer who is working on his field when he encounters something strange.
For this Project I’m working together with @drawtilyouredead and Yuuki.
I was in charge of building the Puppet. It’s made out of a rig with soft foam over it, which was cut to form and Painted with Acrylic paint. The pants are hand sown out of jeans fabric and the moustaches and eyebrows are made out of painted Super Sculpey.
I’m really looking forward to animating in the next few days and am excited to see the final film.
I’m currently working on an Animation called “Root Party” wich will star these little Roots. Their names are Carrot, Ginger and Sweet Potato (left to right)
More updates will follow soon :D
