Just remembered it was sirlochard's birthday, and made a quick drawing of him and his waifu, leucodraws (pony-sona versions).

Happy birthday, Hugsy Canucksy! What colors would you want your pony-sonas to be, anyway? Maple red, perhaps? Maybe I'll finish 'em up for leuco's birthday, which is coming up soon, too, IIRC. (Your cutie marks ended up being a calculator and a paintbrush, respectively, BTW, in case you’re wondering.)

Was reminded that Wildbow McCrae supposedly had a birthday last week, so here's a silly thing featuring Worm's Undersiders and their Ninja Turtle equivalents, to (belatedly) celebrate.

Some ideas:

Reg Shoe & the Fresh Start Club have gotten new jobs, working for Adora Belle Dearheart, and are constantly arguing over whether or not undead deserve more/less/exactly the same amount of rights (and payment) as golems; these disagreements eventually devolve into dance fighting (because the spirit of Disco-World is sweeping through Ankh-Morpork), where Reg and his zombie buddies sing "Bill Her!" and boogie in the streets, to the tune of Michael Jackson's "Thriller".

Mustrum Ridcully and Ponder Stibbons are shouting at each other over the noise of collapsing walls and furniture tipping over, while plaster dust rains down from the ceiling of the trembling Unseen University.

MR: STIBBO-O-ONS! What the deuce is going on, man?! Is it some kind of Disc-quake? PS: Um, according to Hex, it's more of a... Disco-quake, sir. MR: What?! Stop talking rubbish! There's no such thing as a-

Vimes inadvertently starts a new dance style, when the lead singer from a Band With Rocks In (perhaps a gender-ambiguous dwarf named Dafydur Bovissonsondottirson?) notices the way Vimes wiggles his feet on the cobbles, reading the street through his paper-thin soles. The dwarf gets inspired and invents a new dance move, "The Vimes", and even writes a song about it, both of which rapidly become incredibly popular:

One of my old posts about the French translations of the Discworld novels recently gained a lot of renewed attention. It's been a pleasure to read all the positive comments that people have been making, praising the quality of the French versions of Sir Pterry's books. Apparently, the bloke responsible for translating the Discworld novels in France, Patrick Couton, has done a literally award-winning job of making the stories from the back of Great A'Tuin accessible to the French readers - he's received the Grand Prix de l'Imaginaire for his efforts.

Above, you'll find another example (this time featuring a certain Blackboard Monitor, in a scene from Guards! Guards!, or Au Guet!) of how Monsieur Couton manages to insert layers and layers of references into the French version of the Discworld, inventing new puns in French when the original English ones wouldn't work in translation.

Also, if you happen to know a great example of a really well-translated pune or play on words, or want to point out another country's translator that you think is doing a good job at interpreting the Discworld for a non-English-speaking audience, please share it with the rest of us!

On a more nit-pickery note, if this was based on Mort, it would most likely be Princess Keli on the left, and Ysabell with the disgruntled expression at the bottom. Fairly certain that Ysabell was never described as having the same characteristic white-with-a-black-stripe inverted-skunk hair style as her daughter, Susan. Other than that, that’s a really good representation of her.

(In fact, if you look up the file name for that picture on Keane’s website, it’s called death+keli+mort+and+ysabel.jpg - there are other drawings of Ysabel on Claire Keane’s site, and they all show her having white or silver hair, the way she was described in the book.)

James D’Amato already works for a travel agent IRL, so he should have plenty of applicable experience for the latter idea, and the first idea could even get a spin-off sequel: You Say D’A-mah-to, I Say D’A-may-to.
