i really just appreciate how there wasn't even a CRUMB of arrogance in how david played superman bc ive seen soooo many portrayals of him where he IS arrogant and full of himself and it bugs me so much every time especially when its in childrens media like the lego movies bc superman is SUPPOSED to be the pinnacle of kindness hes supposed to be everyones friend and they keep portraying him like a popular frat boy and it was so so refreshing to see how he had actual genuine kindness in everything he did THATS the role model kids should be looking up to not some entitled jackass w godlike powers

There's something in the new Superman movie which I'm still thinking about. I can't quite articulate what it is I'm hung up on, but I'm hoping someone more articulate than me can grab this and run with it if I throw it out into the ether.
Spoilers for Superman (2025) ahead, obviously.
It's about how Metamorpho comes over to Superman's side. It's something about how Luther forgets that he's using a person to control Superman. How he thinks so little about Mali that he doesn't even consider that anyone aside from Superman will care. He's using Mali to threaten Superman but completely misses that this is impacting Metamorpho too. Right? Something about how Metamorpho is just a tool to Lex but as soon as he sees the deadly consequences he starts looking for a way out too.
I kinda liked that brought back at the end with that one dude at the control tables who wanted to close the rift. I mean Mr. Terrific had it covered and good an him for not needing anything, but I also like that glasses-dude was like: oh thank god a way out, here's the terminal you need please stop what Luther is doing.

There was a lot that was great about the new Superman movie but I think my favorite part was how personal the stakes were. After like a decade of Marvel being like "oh no the planet is going to be destroyed! Now the universe! Now the multiverse!" I was starting to get a little burned out. It's like "oh wow big stakes whatever" but the thing is when the stakes get too big you know the author is going to chicken out, right?
Superman 2025 didn't do that. Yes they threw in the obligatory supervillain end-the-world bullshit with the black hole eating Metropolis but those weren't the stakes. The stakes were about Jarhanpur and Clark. Superman, obviously, was going to live, but how many people he cared about were going to die? Malik already got shot, and we liked him. And Jarhanpur? A faraway country, right, until they showed us that brave group who went out to face the Boravian army with nothing but pitchforks.
And the kid. The kid with the Superman flag, who even in the middle of a genocidal invading force with guns pointed at his head refused to run or let the flag fall.
Metropolis was going to live, we all knew that. The invasion of Jarhanpur was going to be repelled. But the smallest stake, the most important question of the movie, was, is flag kid going to survive? And that's where the tension was. And that's what made the movie hit the way it did.

Superman desperately scanning the street during a fight to find the most morally acceptable car to throw at his opponent, knowing that not everybody has insurance, and loss of transportation can ruin a life -
A wave of incredible relief washes over him as he spots the hard geometric lines and silver paintless sheen of a Cybertruck.

“We need more complex female characters”
YALL COULDNT HANDLE HER
Tumblr media
It’s crazy that her character flaw is thinking that if she ever expresses a negative emotion everyone will dislike her and yall immediately proved her right. Goddamn.
