WARNINGS: Angst, mentions of death and just overall sadness
Matt Sturniolo x Reader
ₓ˚. ୭ ˚○◦˚.˚◦○˚ ୧.˚ₓ
"I let you out, at Central."
It had been one day.
One day of Matt never leaving your side. He practically had to be dragged out of your room for tests and to rest, since the lack of sleep the boy was getting was detrimental for his healing.
"Baby you need to eat." You look at Matt who stared back at you, sadness engulfing his eyes. He had been by your hospital bed for the past couple hours and you started to get concerned.
"I don't want to." He mumbled, tiredly grabbing your tubed hand and playing with your fingers. "I just want to be with you."
"Can you eat here?" Matt just shrugged. Just then you started coughing erratically and Matt jumped up, cradling you gently so you could stabilise yourself. After your breathing evened out, he reluctantly let go and instantly latches himself back onto your hand. This happens about once every 10 minutes and Matt feels his heart break with every episode.
"See this is what we can't do." You sternly say turning to look at him in the eyes. "I want you to take care of yourself."
Matt fiercely shakes his head and you can feel his larger hands start to tremor in yours. "I don't need to take care of myself." He says quietly looking down. "Because when we get out of here, I-I'll have you." He says with confidence.
You've experienced a couple heartbreaks in your time but nothing could compare to the pain you felt in that very moment.
"Matt-" You start.
"No. I don't want to hear it."
If you look close enough you can glistening streams flowing from his ocean eyes down his pale cheeks. You reach out to run your fingers over his stubble which was poking out since he hasn't had the opportunity to shave in a while. Matt's hand still interlaced with yours, he watches you as your intertwined hands caress over his face. You watch back staring at him with a bittersweet smile.
"I love you."
"I love you more." And he reached over to plant a gentle kiss on your lips.
Now, you weren't stupid. As soon as you regained consciousness the Doctor's gave it to you straight, and of course you were destroyed to find out that there was nothing they could do.
But what upset you the most was Matt.
We had everything planned out and it's all going to shit, because I can't physically be there with him. Create more memories with him. We're never going to go on 2am drives together again, never going to play fucking Mariokart with him again, and do stupid little things like shared face-masks, long hugs and deep talks, movie marathons and cooking monstrosities in the kitchen.
But he will do it with someone else.
He can marry another girl, and have kids, live right by Nick and Chris and go to Central with her.
While I'll watch and always know that it could've been me.
Maybe in another life.
The Doctor's told me it was a guy driving a white Ferrari. Had too much to drink and paid the consequences for it. They're burying him the day before my funeral.
It's such a weird thought. My funeral's in a couple days. Would I have scarring from all these wires? Would I be wearing my hospital gown? Who would show up?
Would Matt be there?
Would it be sad? Fuck, would they serve food after?
A guy came in for my will the other day and I told him all of my stuff me and Matt basically shared so he can decide what to do with everything. Obviously I gave my parents and Matt's brothers a respectful amount, but honestly I could care less, my stuff isn't as important compared to him.
"What are you thinking about sweetheart?" Matt gently moved my stray hairs from my forehead to the side.
"Nothing." I smile. He smiles back, and I can tell he knows I'm lying but he is perfectly fine living right now, without knowing.
I inhale sharply. "Matt?" He hums in response, sensing my hesitation. "How fast are you gonna move on?"
"I don't want to talk about that y/n." He says sternly.
"Why?" I retaliate, my brows furrowing. When he doesn't answer I huff and say quietly. "I've got just over 24 hours left Matt. I-It hurts to cough and sometimes I throw up blood-"
"No, no, no, no." He says loudly. "You're gonna make it baby. T-The Doctor's, they don't know jackshit okay. I-I- You can do this, I kno-"
"Matt... it's okay."
"No, its not." He sobs. "How could you leave me. It's not fair." He cries into my bed. "It's not fair, it's not fair. It should've been me."
"Shh, no it shouldn't have."
Matt hiccups. "Y-Y-es."
You feel hopeless, all you can do is stroke his hair and reassure him that it's going to be okay, when you both know damn well your not telling the truth.
Once Matt had calmed down, he rested his head on your bed, right next to your bandaged shins. Both of you were holding hands, his thumb stroking yours. You both were just staring at each other, no words to convey the amount of love both of you were pouring out of your tired eyes.
Suddenly Matt quietly speaks up, drifting his eyes from yours and onto the crisp white bedsheets. "I don't think I'll ever be able to move on from you." He mumbles. "I-I just... You were with me through everything. I can't comprehend how you're not going to be here one day, a-and it scares me that when you are gone-" He tremors again and you just hold his hand tighter. "That I won't know what the point of everything is without you. You're my everything a-and you're just gonna leave me." He starts crying. "I don't want you to leave."
"I don't want to leave either Matt. I don't- I don't want to die." You cry with him. Everything hitting you all at once.
Eventually you both fell asleep and when you woke up medics were by your side. You glance at Matt's sleeping figure then around to look at everyone. "It hurts."
A nurse crouches down to face you. "We're going to give you painkillers, so when you pass it doesn't hurt as much."
You nod, and you can feel tears falling down your face. "Okay." This was real. It was happening. "H-How long do I have left... To live?"
The nurse looks at you sympathetically. "Judging by your vitals we estimate a couple hours." She reaches out and caresses your hair. "It'll just be like falling asleep. In the meantime we'll all leave and I'm going to unhook you to some of these machines, so you can at least be more comfortable."
You can only nod. Your whole body is flooded with pain and you realise that this is it.
You're going to die.
You can feel Matt stirring, just as the nurse unhooks you off the last machine, and everyone leaves.
"W-what's going on?" All of a sudden he's alert and checking his surroundings.
All you can do is softly smile at him and try your best not to burst into tears.
"Matt." You manage out. "It's happening."
Matt swore his whole world fell out of place. You continued. "They um- They gave me pain medication so I won't feel it and the-the nurse said it's like falling asleep."
"How long?" Matt felt like he didn't even recognise his own voice.
"A couple hours."
Matt gulped, but it felt like he swallowed a rock. "So what are you going to do?"
"Lie with me... please?"
Matt didn't even feel the rough scratch of your sheets or heard the creak of the bed. Facing you he said, "I can't even process this."
"So don't."
He just nodded and went down under the covers further. "Can I please hold you?... Just one last time."
It took everything in you not to start sobbing right there. "Yes Matt. You can."
So he gently took your body and moved it towards him, cradling you into him and holding you like if he lets go you would leave. Because you just might.
He was gonna miss you.
God, he was gonna miss you so much.
After an hour you spoke up.
"What were we going to do if we got to Central."
Matt looked down at you and smiled. "Well, last time I went I saw the prettiest bookstore ever and I instantly thought of you, so I figured that would've been our first stop. And of course, knowing you that would eat up a couple hours."
You laughed a bit, which made tears form in Matt's eyes. He's never going to hear that again.
"And then what?"
Matt sniffed. "And then I made a dinner reservation."
Your eyes gently shut and your heart rate slowed.
"Best carbonara in town. So naturally I had to take you there. Uh- It was an outside booking, and already a nice day, so I thought you would've loved it."
"Mhm, keep going." Snuggling into his warm chest, trying to ignore the pain shooting through you at a rapid pace.
"And then there was this park." He said softly. "Big open area, moonlit pond... fairy lights."
You smiled into his chest, the pain becoming numb as you felt it slowly encase you. "That sounds beautiful."
"It is, you would've loved it. They have little paths where you can walk around." You felt your pulse slowly fade. "And when we would get to a spot, I would hold you and tell you that I love you. And that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. That your all that matters to me. I would list every little thing I love about you. Your hair, your eyes, your joy and how much you make my life better. You know why sweetheart? Because I love you. I love you so much okay? So whenever you feel like you have to let go, just know that I love you and that I will always love you, forever and ever and ever......"
"Y/n?"
"Sweetheart, are you awake?"
"Y/n? Oh my god, no, please."
"Y/n please wake up. Please."
"No, not yet."
"Not yet."
"Don't leave me."
"I love you."
ₓ˚. ୭ ˚○◦˚.˚◦○˚ ୧.˚ₓ
Rain was pouring down heavily, as Matt got out of the car, double checking to see if he missed anything.
Matt felt heavy as he stepped along the gravel path, trudging towards the place where he spent most of his time.
He gently sat down next to you, ignoring the uncomfortable wet soil. Staring at you Matt remembered one of the things he bought and held it up to you. "I got you more flowers." He softly smiled. "I know your probably sick of them by now but they were half off so, you know."
Sighing he plucked at the grass in front of him. "Not much has happened. Except, you know Alisha? From my management team. I told you about her a couple weeks ago. She's new. Anyways, she-uh... She asked me out on a date. A-and I told her I'd think about it. She's great but... she's nothing like you." He mumbled. "I don't think anyone's ever going to be like you."
There was a brief silence until he spoke up again.
"Do you remember when I told you I'd never move on from you. I-It's true. Nothing can ever compare to you... But I know, for reasons I'd never understand, you would've wanted me to move on. So I thought I'd do this as um... closure? Just in case, but one of my biggest regrets is never doing this sooner because I was too scared." He lightly chuckled.
Matt stood up and reached into his pocket, suddenly feeling nervous.
"At Central." He whispered just so you could hear. "After the dinner and after we would explore the park and find the spot. And I was gonna tell you how much you mean to me and how I want to spend the rest of my life with you." Matt slowly pulled out a small box from his front pocket. "And then I was gonna get down on one knee and ask you to marry me." He whispered. Matt opened the box and gently placed it on the soil, littered with flowers he got you.
"I hope you would've said yes."
He stood in front of your grave.
"Goodbye, sweetheart."

"Told you not to worry,
but maybe that's a lie"
“You can’t keep doing this Matt!”
“Doing what, darling?” He looks at you with a malicious smirk, head tilting, showcasing his defined jawline and contrasted silver chain.
“When am I going to be allowed out of this house without you constantly behind me? Like a- Like a shadow. When can I call my family huh?”
“Oh darling, we’ve talked about this.” Matt coos, gently holding your cheek in the palms of his cold hands. His shiny rings cool to your heated skin, making you wince in his hold. “Remember,” And he tilts your head up so he can stare into your glossy eyes. “You can leave whenever you want.” And he let’s go. “But you will regret it darling. Trust me.”
“Matt.” You whimper.
“No baby. You’re mine. Remember angel? Mine.” And he holds your shaking frame to his chest, your cheek bathing in the scent of his musky cologne.
The tears you shed left wisps of a broken romance, thread together by the bounds of Matt’s love. Of his obsessive, manipulating love.
Pools of regret flow onto his black t-shirt as he holds you close. You needed to run.
"Honey, what's the hurry?
Won't you stay inside?"
“Hey love, I’m just going to head out to the store.” Matt speaks, as he places a cap on his soft head of hair.
“Okay.” You whisper.
He smiles and kisses your forehead, his voice barely audible as he murmurs, “Don’t even think about leaving me.”
Sending waves of goosebumps along your skin, he smiles at you and caresses your cheek lovingly before you hear the door slam.
You let go a terrified breath you didn’t even realise you were holding and raced to gather your stuff. It was now or never.
Shoving things into a random bag, you run downstairs and look around before racing towards the front door. Just as you were about to make your exit, you hear a menacing voice.
“I knew you would run sweetheart.”
You’ve never heard a voice so cold. A voice so sharp it sent blades hurling towards your heart, piercing your skin and bruising your muscle. A frightened sob escapes your lips as you turn around and see your boyfriend standing down the hallway. The lighting cloaking half of his figure in a dark cloud.
“I’m sorry.” You cry.
“Step away from the door.” He says in a scarily sweet tone. “And I promise it’s all going to be okay.” You see him twisting around an object in his right palm, fingers nimbly twirling the blade making your blood run dry.
“Y/n.” Matt growls warningly. He starts leering towards where your body is standing and you gasp in fear, turning towards the door, dashing towards the exit and potentially your freedom.
You slam the front door shut and just run. You knew damn well Matt wasn’t stupid. He knew where you were going to go, but without a car there’s not really any other place else.
It should’ve been more obvious to you. The over-protectiveness, the threats, hell even moving to a town with barely anything in it.
Walking red flags zoomed by your day to day life and you just ignored it as if it was the clouds painting the sky, or the maliciousness dripping off your lover's smile.
Frantically, you banged on the door, sobbing for someone to let you in, having no idea if the man you once loved was hot on your tail. Finally it opened, and you threw yourself inside, ignoring Nate’s confused inquiries.
“Hey, hey what’s wrong?” He grabbed your forearms and levelled towards your collapsing figure.
“It’s M-Matt.” You choked. “He’s gonna be here soon. Hide.”
Loud and bone-shivering knocks, banged through the whole house, shaking each of your nerves and polished floorboards. You whimper and hurtled yourself up Nate’s stairs looking for a place to hide. Grabbing a throw blanket off some bed you launch for the closet and cover yourself up, hyperventilating in the enclosed space.
Nate had no clue what was going on, but he knew that his best mate was a bit of a protective character, so maybe there was a fight or something. He thought back to how distressed you looked and decided against opening the door, but when the loud, angry knocks resumed, he knew better than to leave Matt enraged.
As soon as the innocent friend opened the door he was effortlessly clocked in the head, by a man with a tattooed arm. Matt. He stepped over his old friend’s body, his slow footsteps echoing throughout the semi-vacant house. “Oh angel,” He starts.
Your body goes rigid as you lightly hear his voice echoing through the walls. “You never fucking listen!” Matt’s voice grew at the last three syllables, earning muffled sobs from your hiding place in the closet. “And look at where that got you.” His tone turned sickly sweet, gently walking up the carpeted steps, ready to catch what is rightfully his.
“Oh darling, we’re gonna have so much fun. And I’ll make sure you never run from me. Ever. Again.” You can make out the door to the room across from yours creaking, signifying that Matt is getting closer and closer to sealing your doom. The closet is one where it is built by shutters, meaning if you squint through the blanket you can see your boyfriend's black jeans carefully entering the room adjacent to yours, through the slits in the closet door. You throw the blanket more over yourself, curling yourself against the floor to try and make yourself a less visible lump.
“Sweetheart.” He taunts. “Don’t play these games with me baby. Come back to me.” The door to the guest room squeaks as he pushes it more open, and you hold your breath, silent tears of terror roll down your flushed cheeks. You can hear his soft footsteps get closer and closer, until they stop. You hear ruffling and then a voice right next to your ear.
“I wish it didn’t have to happen this way.”
The closet door flings open, and before you even have time to scream, his arms are already holding the blanket, you previously had on yourself, against your face, limiting your ability to breath. You claw at his strong hands, trying to wriggle out of his secure grasp, but it was too much. You can slowly feel yourself slipping away.
"The world's a little blurry, or maybe it's my eyes
The friends I've had to bury, they keep me up at night."
“Hi baby.” You can feel a hand graze your cold forehead, pushing stray hairs away from your face, so it frames your tired expression. Slowly blinking your eyes open, you realise you’re back here in you and Matt’s shared room. “My throat.” You can barely get out. “Oh, here.” And your boyfriend holds up a glass of water towards you, soft blue eyes gazing at your hunched figure expectantly. You reach to grab the fragile glass when you realise, you can’t. “What did you do?” You rasp, straining your wrists against the cold, sharp metal. You can feel the claustrophobic circles digging deeper and deeper into your skin as you restraint against them. “Shhh, nothing darling.” And he brings the cup to your lips. “Hold still.” He growls, his free hand firmly holding your jaw as he brings his steady hand to your trembling lips. Gently, Matt pours the water down your throat, some of the liquid tumbling from your mouth down to your shirt. “Here.” Matt whispers, as he tugs the sleeve of his hoodie, and wipes the water dribbling down your mouth, along with salty, stray tears that lingered on your face.
“Why?” You tremor. And Matt just sits across from you, admiring all of you, now that he has you to himself and you can’t leave. Ever. “Look at how pretty you look.” He cooes. “Matt.” You almost sob, awaiting his reply as to why he could be this cruel. “Oh angel, I know.” And he wraps his arms around your head, scooching himself so your back is pressed against his stomach, cradling you on his lap. “Do you want anything? Food? Cuddles?” “Home.” You choke out. “I want to go home.” Half of your face is pressed into Matt’s warm hoodie, but he still heard your wobbly sentence and it made his expression drop, turning into stone. “Darling,” He seeths. “You are home.” “Home.” You cry again, tears getting stuck in your throat causing you to cough erratically, gasping for breath. Matt sighs irritatingly and gently holds your sputtering figure by the waist, moving you off his lap. He gets up and just looks down at you. “Pathetic.” Matt then crouches down so you can look at him, pale face, red cheeks drenched in tears. “You might not love me baby, but you better learn to because nobody loves you more than me okay?” All you can do is nod at him, which leaves Matt with a satisfied smile on his face, and with that he exits the room.
"Try not to upset you, let you rescue me,
The day I met you, I just wanted to protect you."
Once Matt can’t hear your strangled cries, he figures now is an appropriate time to at least uncuff you, and see how you react. He’s been planning this for a while, his protective acts not going unnoticed by you, made him scared that you would leave him for someone who isn’t as batshit crazy as he is, but he can’t help it. He loves you.
“Sweetheart.” You hear the several locks on the door click, only to reveal the one person you're most afraid of at this moment. Your knees go up to your chest as you peek at him through thin strands of your hair. Matt crouches in front of you, placing his large, ringed hands on your knees, staring back at you with a small frown on his face. “I’m going to uncuff you.” Instant thoughts start racing through your head and just like he can see the gears turning in your skull, his expression turns serious and forcefully lifts your head up so you can make direct eye contact with him.
“Remember what we talked about love.” After a slight pause, he brings his right hand to his back pocket revealing a small silver key. Almost as if he was teasing you, he brings the item to the hole of your cuffs letting it linger there for a minute. All that could be heard was your heavy breaths, anticipating your release. With a sigh he clicks in the key, freeing your right hand then your left.
Flexing your wrists, Matt stands back, awaiting your decision. Stupidly, you eye the door and just hope God is on your side as you sprint towards the metal knob, sweaty palms twisting the rounded object with no avail. A broken sob leaves your wrists as you turn to Matt, pleading with him to let you go. Matt watches you and almost feels sorry for you, witnessing your distressed expressions and tired frame. But sickening enough, that sympathy is overrun by a heavy tank fuelled with pride. Seeing you like this almost gives him a sense of twisted joy, your tears fuelling his madness.
“You didn’t think I would make it that easy bug?” He pouts, arms coming behind you to hug your shaking figure. “No.” You sob. “If I let you go, you gonna leave?” “N-No.” “Good girl.” He whispers and lets go of carefully, leaving you alone by the door as he walks back towards the bed. “No.” You cry again and quickly pad over to him, making yourself home in his open arms. “There we go.” Matt gently praises, his hands holding you up to rest against his warm skin. Cologne filling your senses as you snuggle into his shirt, silently hating yourself for finding comfort in the man who scared you, but coincidently loving the way he held you close, and whispered love filled praises into your ears, kissing your forehead with utmost care.
"B-B-B-B-Breathe."
“Matt.” “Mmm, my love?” He mumbles, nudging his head with yours to show you that you’ve got his undivided attention. “Can we… Can we get food?” He looks at you, studying your tired features before softly sighing and pressing a gentle kiss to your lips. “Of course angel, there’s food downstairs.” He taps the side of your thigh as preparation for him to stand up, arms cradling you as he presses you close to his chest. Matt carried you downstairs, footsteps pressing against the plush carpet. “Here.” He mumbles, resting you on a kitchen stool, before he takes out takeaway thai from the fridge. Matt instantly picks up on your fidgety behaviour and he can see the thoughts in your eyes rushing miles a minute. “All of the doors are bolted shut my love, so don’t even try.” He speaks nonchalantly sifting through the plastic containers of pad thai and spring rolls. His statement makes you freeze up and slightly whimper. Even though you weren’t doing anything, the fact that you couldn’t leave, stripped you away of the stability you were feeling a mere 15 minutes ago.
Matt sighs, as he places 2 plates chock full of thai in the microwave, shutting the door and turning to face you. “Look, I didn’t want it to end up this way.” There’s a pause through his sentence as he walks towards you and tilts up your jaw so you're looking right at his face. “There are a lot of bad people out there baby- God knows how many people would even think twice to snatch you away or-or” “Kidnap me? Hold me hostage?” You hoarsely whisper and he clenches his jaw, hand still resting comfortably on the warm skin of your cheek. The microwave beeps.
“I’m just protecting you darling. Soon, you’ll learn to love me. But for now, this will have to do. Your mine. Correct, darling?”
You just nod your head in conformation. “Yours.”
"And I don't want to be lonely,
Was hoping you'd come home.
Even if it's just a lie."

Tattoo Girl (Ivy)
Tumblr media
Summary: Just a very cute and nervous Matt
Matt Sturniolo x Tattoo Artist! Reader
♫ I had no chance to prepare, I couldn't see you coming ♫
ₓ˚. ୭ ˚○◦˚.˚◦○˚ ୧.˚ₓ
Matts POV
“Hey, I uh- have an appointment for 1?”
“Yep, just sit right there.” The receptionist points to a waiting area and I wipe my clammy hands on my jeans and awkwardly sit down.
I’m never this nervous for a tattoo, but goddamn today is stressful because I had booked with my artist being y/n y/l/n. She kinda blew up for tattooing big stars and getting her name around social media. And my god is she gorgeous.
I saw her in person once, at some event me and my brothers had to go to. I barely saw her in my peripheral vision but I could tell it was her. She brings some sort of energy around, an addictive aura. Or it could just be the smell of her sweet perfume. She walked past us, laughing at something someone said and I kept my eyes trained on her tight dress like some creep. Chris noticed and punched me in the arm, shaking his head at me in amusement.
The amount of effort it took to actually book with her. Thank god my friend Mezafram is in contact with her, and we found an opening.
“Matt Sturniolo?” The receptionist called.
“Yep.” I sharply inhaled and stood up.
“Just continue going forward and there’ll be a maroon curtain. Y/n will be waiting for you.” She smiles from her computer monitor.
Even her name can make my heartbeat quicker and my breath unstable. I trudge towards the curtain and timidly open it.
Wow.
“Hi I’m Y/n, I’ll be doing your appointment today.”
She looks like a goddess. She’s wearing a black tank that accuents her tits, tattoos littered around her arms, complemented with silver rings, bracelets and a necklace. She ties up her gorgeous hair. “So I looked at the designs the receptionist showed me, do you know where you want it?”
I can’t even focus.
“Matt?” Holy shit. I wished I recorded that shit, so I could hear my name fall from her lips over and over again.
“Um- I… My arm?”
“Okay.” She smiles. “Do you know which one?”
“T-This one.” And I hold up the one I want.
“Okay take a seat.” And she gestures towards the black chair. I sit down and avoid looking at her. I can’t even breathe right now, let alone think straight.
“Where do you want it? Just here?” She whispers. Oh, if only she knew the things she’s doing to me.
“Um- yep.” My eyes focused dead on the wall in front of me.
“Okay, I’m just gonna sanitise the area.” And the beautiful woman spins in her chair to get her equipment.
I mean it's not even sexual attractiveness. She’s so pretty, and nice.
“Here.” Her voice barely above a whisper as she wipes on my clean skin.
I think I physically gulped. “It's a really cool tattoo.” Y/n reassures, creating conversation.
“Yeah.” I breathe.
“Okay, I’m gonna start. Just relax.”
“Mhm.” How?
I feel the needle press onto my skin. “Are you okay?” I nod. “Tell me if it’s too much okay?”
Oh. My. God.
She continues her work, sometimes humming along to a random tune. “So how’s youtube?” She breaks the silence, gently wiping on the inked skin.
“O-Oh, it’s going good.” I say quietly. SHE KNOWS WHO I AM.
“I watch you and your brothers sometimes. You’re really funny.”
I want to cry, and throw up and laugh and kiss her all over her perfect face.
“Thank you for watching us.” I stutter. What the fuck did I say?
Y/n just laughs. “No problem.”
“I’m a fan of your work.” I can barely get out.
“Thank you.” She smiles. “Okay I’m practically done with this, just let me wrap it.” And she stands up, and bends over.
I think I’m drooling.
“Here.” She comes back up and wraps my fresh tattoo. She pulls out her phone and takes a photo. “How do you like it?”
“It’s perfect.” I whisper. And it truly is. The owl detailed to perfection.
I get out of the chair. “Great.” The artist removes her gloves and stands up across from my awkward figure. “Pleasure working with you Matt Sturniolo.”
I stare at her in awe. “Y-You too.”
“Hey, can you do me a favour?” She tilts her head and I nod. “Can I have your number? Just in case your tattoo gets infected… And then you can call me.”
“Yeah.” OH MY GOD. It’s confirmed. My heart has stopped working. Y/n passes me her phone. I shakily type in my number.
“Cool, I’ll see you around.” She smiles. And I give her my biggest smile back, cheeks red and neck flushed.
“Hey y/n?... You’re really pretty.” Horrified at what I just blurted out, I gave her one last awkward smile before turning on my heel and racing out of the shop.
Running out I feel like I’m in a fever dream. I met her, she knows who I am, we were literally centimetres apart.
I look up at the sky, mentally thanking whatever God planned this shit out because I owe them everything.
Suddenly my phone buzzed and I pulled it out of my pocket.
Unknown Number
Hey, completely unrelated but I’m on my break and I kinda want a burger.
You down? :)

Matt Sturniolo x Reader
ₓ˚. ୭ ˚○◦˚.˚◦○˚ ୧.˚ₓ
"Bad luck to talk, on these rides."
Your head gently laid against the cool window of Matt's minivan, the sunlight hitting your face, reflecting against your hair.
Matt looked over at you and smiled, completely entranced by you. You thought he looked so good. One arm on the wheel and one on the gear stick, looking into the rear-view every now and again.
Looking at him, you adjust your elbow to lean on the side of the car door, resting your head in your palms. "How much longer?"
"Soon baby." Matt replied reassuringly, switching into gear before moving his tattooed arm to your thigh, softly rubbing it. Matt couldn't stop looking at you. He thought you looked particularly pretty today and quite frankly could barely keep his eyes to himself.
"I can't wait to see Central." You smiled at him.
"I know, I have so much to show you, I just know you're gonna love it." He said, facing you with a giddy grin.
'Ladders' By Mac Miller came up on your shared playlist and you instantly reached over to put the music louder.
You both started laughing and singing along, zooming along the seemingly empty highway. Brows furrowing, your once loud words trailed off in the distance, making Matt look over at you.
"Matt..." You squinted, seeing something in the distance, your eyes widening seeing it has no intention of stopping.
"Hmm?" He mumbled, still admiring you.
"Matt, keep your eyes on the road. Matt!"
He turned his head quickly, only to find a blazing sports car coming towards you head on. With the speed you guys were going, attempting to quickly swerve to the left only led to the car speeding into the side of his van.
The side you were sitting in.
"Mind on the road, Your dilated eyes.
Watch the clouds float."
A pounding head, three broken ribs, a punctured lung and a severe concussion but all he could think of is you.
"Hey." Matt said, looking at you. He started attempting to unbuckle himself, harshly landing on an array of broken glass and disrupted gravel. "Baby? Are you okay?" His voice was raspy and he was attempting to crawl his way to your lifeless body, hanging sideways in your seat.
Trying to sit up, Matt gently placed his arm under your head and unbuckled the torn seat belt with the same amount of care. His whole body was shaking, to the point where he couldn't even feel the raging, bleeding burns on his back. You were his number one priority.
He adjusted your body to rest on your lap. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry." He repeated in your neck. "Please be okay." His neck went up to look down on you, gently grabbing your bloodied jaw. "Please, I'm sorry." He cried out more strongly. "Oh sweetheart." He sobbed going back into your neck and cradling your body. It was so cold.
Matt didn't know how long he stayed there, holding you and waiting for you to come out of whatever trance you were in. The red and blue in his peripheral didn't even phase him, encased with you in his minivan. Part of him couldn't even wrap his head around it. That you were hurt. Matt already decided in his head that you were just sleeping the pain away, and that tomorrow you would be as good as new, and you could go to Central together.
But something told him you were far, far, far away from okay.
"I didn't care, to state the plain.
Kept my mouth closed."
"Internal bleeding, bruised potentially broken-"
"Male, 20 years, Caucasian-"
"Send him to the x-ray machine now!"
Everything was crossing over each other as doctors and nurses pushed him around quickly on a red-stained gurney. Matt groaned at the bright lights, blinding his sunken blue eyes.
He turned his head, trying to make eye-contact with you, but with no avail. "Wh-what's wrong with her?' The surgeons ignored him, frantically discussing with their partners. "I said, 'What's wrong with her!?' Matt started trying to get up, breaking off IVs and random tubes pricking his arms.
"Restrain him!" Suddenly a wave of medical professionals towered over him, pinning him down.
"No, no, no, no." He sobbed. "Is she okay? Please." He cried making eye contact with a nurse pinning his arm down. She just looked at him sympathetically before re-inserting his tubes. "Please, this is all my fault." No one answered.
"Prepare anaesthesia." A voice came from in front of him.
"No, wait, I have to see that she's okay-" Matt tried to wiggle out of the doctor's grasp, only making them hold him down tighter. "Wait, wait, no-"
"That's just a slow body.
You left when I forgot to speak."
"Can I go see her now?"
Three days. At this point Matt didn't care what they did with his body, he only cared about you. They put him on a tube to feed him, because he refused to eat. Gave him pills because he couldn't sleep.
"They're just running some final tests." A nurse said, adjusting his monitor.
"Is she okay?" His voice was gravely and strained from yelling out for you. Even medication couldn't stop his dreams leading to your lifeless body.
Instead of answering him, the woman looked down at her clipboard checking off numerous things. "Your allowed family visito-"
"God, I don't care! I want to see her."
The nurse left.
Around 2 hours later a man clad in a suit came up to him and sat in the chair next to Matt's bed.
"How... well, would you say, you know y/n."
"Very well." Matt's voice cracked. "We've been dating for 4 years."
"I see." The man looks down at his hands. "Your her emergency contact, you know that?"
Matt shook his head. "Why are you here? Is she okay? Are you freaks finally gonna give me an answer?"
The man sighed and looked up at him through his gold rimmed glasses. "It's not looking well."
Matt just blankly stared at him. "You're pathetic."
"Yeah, well, she's hanging on by the thinnest thread we've ever seen. I'm going to give it to you straight. She's got three days max."
Matt's heart monitor started beeping rapidly. "What do you mean... three days left?" He gulped.
"Metal shards impaled her abdomen causing severe internal bleeding, I mean we are so lucky she got the urgent care she needed when she did. Top that with a fractured neck, ribs shattered beyond compare. There's not much we can do.... Look I'm sorry, but you can visit her."
"N-now?"
"Yeah c'mon up." Matt slowly swung his legs to one side of the bed, away from the man so he couldn't see the aching pain in his face and the piercing sounds of his heart snapping in all different places. Doctors helped him stand up and grab his IV, assisting him with walking, despite his protests.
Matt stood outside your door, knowing he could never be prepared for the amount of pain he's about to see you in.
"Well..." The man in the suit said. Matt took a deep inhale and softly opened your door.
And there you were. Bruised and slightly bloody. Tubes coming in and out of every end of your poor pale body. Matt felt faint and almost fell to his knees if it wasn't for the medical professionals holding him up.
"My sweetheart." He cried out, kneeling on the edge of your bed and grabbing your hand, softly kissing it, the cold skin burning his lips.
"She's just resting now, but she'll be awake in about 30 minutes."
Matt struggled to even get the words out. "So she's like... conscious?"
"Yeah." A tear fell down Matt's sickly face. "She's just in a lot of pain."
"Stick by me, close by me
You were fine."
Around an hour passed and Matt was staring at your face intently, crying every now and again at your fragile state. He wanted to so badly, see you smile again and hear you laugh. But you were gonna die, and he's the only one here with you.
"M-matt?" You voice was small, tiny even. Ridges and croaks with every letter but it was just enough for Matt to burst into tears. "Hey don't cry." Your weak hand moved to his soft hair, lightly scratching at his scalp in an attempt to calm him down. It didn't.
If only he cried harder, leaning into your touch and grasping the rails on the bed, so tightly his knuckles were a snow white. He couldn't do this. Watch you die. "I'm so sorry." He sobbed.
"No-" You cooed but you were cut off with his rapid and heart-wrenching apologies. "Matt, it's gonna be okay."
He looked up at you and your heart broke. His face was red and puffy, eyes watery and blue. "No it's not, you don't understand-"
"I do."
You stroked your thumb under his eye, soothing the purple and red hues. "It's okay."
Matt desperately shook his head under your touch. "No, no, no. I-I was gonna- w-we were supposed to have twins, o-one girl and one boy, and live in B-Boston near my brothers and get married, sweetheart we were going to get married." He cried, holding your hand. "Remember? W-With two dogs a-and Chris and Nick next door, and no we, we were gonna die together. Like that scene in the Notebook." He sobbed. "It was gonna be us together. It was always us together." He squeezed his eyes shut and cried into your hand, whispering sweet nothings about your future you won't get to have.
"I'm sure we're taller in another dimension.
You say we're small and not worth the mention.
You're tired of moving, your body's aching.
We could vacay there's places to go."
"White Ferrari. Had a good time."
