greys
I shouldn’t care this much but I do. I basically hate watch greys and am only in it for Harry shum jr and adelaide kane but whenever LUCAS FUCKING ADAMS pops up on screen I hate it so much. I’m not sure if it’s the actor and how he plays lucas but his whole entire being is so annoying. His vocal affectations and how he delivers lines - it’s so mumbly and I just can’t do it. And the whole mumbly, whiny thing can be a part of his character and how he’s just so incompetent (like how he became an intern is beyond me) but like to have his storyline and even Simone’s (who’s like also kinda annoying, only slightly less) as like the “main” out of the interns is not a good idea.
To add on to that, the splitting time between the old cast and the new is eating too much time for ACTUAL good character development. The show has obviously gone down hill since the season count was in the single digits and even more so after Ellen left. I honestly think they should just end the show. They are really dragging a dead horse around. This show has reached its breaking point and they should just let it go…

if kaitlyn dever has no fans, it means im dead. i'm a kaitlyn dever defender till the day i die.
i wrote a post about her rumoured casting last month and i fucking stand by it. She’s never really played an antagonistic role so I’m excited to see her in this and no doubt that she will serve.
i understand fans hesitation about aspects of abby that aren't represented in kaitlyn (i.e. her physicality) and honestly for someone her size and also the timeframe that is probably a month or two till filming, and even if they pushed her scenes till later, she’ll never really get that size. people have been saying why they couldn’t have found someone who’s physicality is already there but the most important thing that casting and creators do is find someone with the ability to do the scenes FIRST and everything comes later. you want to feel something over someone who just looks the part. I’m sure many people who probably look the part auditioned but unfortunately they probably didn’t have chemistry with the other actors or they couldn’t do the scenes justice. I think there’s a level of trust that should be given to the powers that be that they know what they are doing.
there’s no doubt that bella ramsey and kaitlyn dever are going to act down and I think that’s the important bit to remember. and to all the haters, grow the fuck up. you can have hesitations about the casting without spreading hate.

my roman empire: shows of tv past
sometimes at night or even in the middle of the day, i think about all the unanswered and unfinished stories from cancelled tv shows. i petition that once they cancel a show they have to do sit down interviews to tell you what would've happened if the show continued. ones that immediately come into mind (that i've watched because there are literally too many to count):
the society (definitely the one that keeps me up the most)
warrior nun
the wilds
the secret circle
everything sucks
first kill
stumptown
prodigal son
1899
icarly revival
the royals (this needed to end though because of the showrunner)
stitcher
fate: the winx saga
the family (the one that was on abc)
finding carter
star-crossed
teenage bounty hunters
cloak and dagger (sort of...)

some spoilers!
i saw this movie back in september at the toronto film festival and now that its out i can finally speak out on it
it's not good? like yay jenna and whatnot but like the lines are so cheesy, the movie doesnt know what it wants to be. like it straddles this thin line of being a mediocre crime drama and a mediocre family drama. but also speaking of jenna, mabel was kind of unnecessary to be a romantic subplot? like sure it adds stakes to it but i think the movie couldve worked with or without the romance because in the end her motivations in the film kind of purely exist for the main character?
you'd think with a cast with ben foster AND tommy lee jones AAND brian helgeland as the director / writer it would be kinda good.
just my opinion!

thoughts on the *rumoured* Abby casting
Speaking as a Kaitlyn dever fan first and foremost (watch short term 12 if you haven’t), I’m ecstatic to see she might be getting more “mainstream” roles. I think she’s an incredibly underrated actress and has at this point been mainly critically successful and not so much mainstream / publicly like her contemporaries who are both. for example: zendaya, timothee chalamet, florence pugh, anya taylor joy etc. barring zendaya, the rest have been in the business for a shorter period of time than kaitlyn and this opportunity can finally give her the success she deserves
At the same time, I do understand people’s hesitation with the casting. She’s not a bulky girl and I also think some people prefer Shannon berry (justice for the wilds!) who I think would also be great. I don’t know how much stock to put into this rumour as it’s obviously not from a “reputable” source but I think it’s important to remember that the game and show can live as separate creative mediums. (Though honestly for the life of me I don’t know why they made a show when the game is cinematic already but that’s a moot point now)
tldr; So yeah, I’m a little conflicted to be honest. I won’t love seeing the flak and hate she might get if she plays Abby but at the same time, because of the popularity of the show, I would love to see her career get that extra boost that it deserves.
I think she’d be great. I’m not complaining about more Kaitlyn

the artful dodger
I did in fact binge all 8 episodes already and I really liked the show! For once I don’t have anything critical to say. I think the show balances the adventure, the medical stuff and the romance really well. I don’t think any of it overtakes any of the others. I quite liked the medical drama in a period setting. It’s very interesting as it’s set on the verge of discoveries. Like in the first episode, legs would be amputated even if it’s like a broken bone or something. It’s kind of a refreshing take on a medical show comparatively to something like greys. There’s also the thievery of it all and that’s been interesting and comedic too. And let’s not forget about Jack and Belle. A very PG romance but nonetheless it sparks joy in my cold heart.
I’ve seen criticisms of belle being irritating but I didn’t think that. Now I can see why maybe she would rub people the wrong way. She had the habit of pulling the “I’m a governors daughter card” and just being privileged and naive but I saw it as her using her privilege to try and get a leg up in this world. She’s ahead of her time and she just wants to be a surgeon / advance medicine in a place that’s very hard stuck on how it’s always been done.
I would really like to see a season 2… my hopes are not high just based on streaming platforms track records. The landscape of television in the network world and also the streaming world have been less than desirable. Especially with the strikes, I think studios and networks might be stricter on what gets made as to make a profit…

daily dose of sunshine kdrama ramble
just would like to preface this by saying i don't watch a lot of kdramas, mainly ones that my faves are in
it felt so much like a sister to its okay to not be okay. they both use a fantastical way of portraying mental illness where it captures the feeling when mental illness is such an invisible illness. both shows also had their main characters deal with mental illness but with daily dose i love how they approached it where its like one isn't "recovered" per se, you just learn to live along side with it and also how it explores the stigma that korea has with mental illness. obviously im not from korea so im not sure how accurate it was but as someone whos family background is also asian, i know how hard it is for people to destigmatize mental illness. it was also really interesting as someone who grew up in the west to see how different it is portrayed in the east.
spoiler alert! but when da-eun was outed with being hospitalized for depression i was so upset at the caregivers protesting against her to get her fired like she has depression not leprosy? shes still capable of doing her job and at the meeting head nurse song was spitting FACTS. i also loved how the people around her were like "it's not your fault you're sick, don't worry" and its so true. mental illness can hit anyone at anytime, people don't ask for it... that is to say although there is still a stigma in the west (canada specifically where im from) i find that among the younger generation its "normalized" to a certain extent.
park bo young as usual, kiiiilllled it. i love watching her in dramas cuz they never disappoint. i like how da-eun was grounded and felt real. her depression wasn't kinda overblown that a lot of kdramas might do. also whoever decided yeon woo jin's character needed their hair permed should be fired. it does not look good on him.
also side note: whoever did the ADR mixing also needs to be fired because i noticed all the ADR in the show. it was SO obvious. that is all :)
TL;DR - if you liked it's okay to not be okay, i think you would like daily dose of sunshine.

ginny and georgia ramblings remix - max baker hater edition
i've written about my thoughts on season 2 when it came out and something compelled me to rewatch it recently and i don't know why but this time around... oh my lord I HATE MAX BAKER. there, i said it. she is not a rootable, likeable or compelling character with a storyline that i care for and i for one am hoping that she's in less of the show in season 3. she's a horrible friend to ginny, abby & norah. she's not funny. she's just annoying. like in the first half of season 2 where she was still upset at ginny and abby she was literally just being a toxic person. abby was trying to make amends the whole time and she just wouldn't have it. and when norah was talking to abby and ginny she would be upset. like i understand petty, but that is just childish. and even when they were all friends, she would just take up all the oxygen in the room and frankly be a straight up bitch to abby. i'm sorry but to have her character have more screen time is just wasting a lot of other characters with more compelling storylines.
maybe im just an abby stan but i love her character and i wish and hope we will see more of her in season 3 but like abby's character is so much more compelling and frankly complex than max. max seems to me a caricature of a person and whether that's a writing issue or an acting issue is beyond me. max and norah frankly don't care for abby. and hopefully this is all a set up for whats to come but i really like ginny and abby's friendship. frankly the most true friendship they have is with each other because they understand each other. i'm not saying you have to come from a broken home to understand each other but ginny actually takes time to hear abby out and vice versa while max is so self-involved that she doesn't hear anyone else's problem and unfortunately norah is sort of a pushover. at the end of the season, it really seemed like norah wanted to be there for abby but was so easily distracted by her bf...
my toxic trait tho is hoping press being the one to help abby get through it.
my wish for season 3 though is more of ginny and abby's friendship. i want to see abby being there for ginny and vice versa.
that's all. i really hope the actor's strike is over soon so they can start filming but at the same time i really hope that the writers use this time wisely...

the state of warrior nun?
I’m more of a casual fan of warrior nun in the sense that I watched the seasons as it came out and was also upset when it was cancelled. So I’m not consistently keeping up with what’s happening. But I know that it was revived as a movie trilogy but not by the same creators?
So my question is, is that all we know about it right now? Like it’s being revived some randoms adjacent to the universe and none of the original creative team was brought in? And will that mean the original cast will not be involved either?

everything now netflix
some spoilers!! and apologies for the long post.
i honestly really enjoyed it! it was almost like a skins/euphoria but imbued with like a heartstopper/sex education vibe in the sense that it dealt with serious teenage issues/mental health but light enough that it doesn't weigh down on you. my character thoughts:
mia was so infuriating almost at all times. obviously under the circumstances, it makes sense but there's this level of likeability that was missing for me. maybe it was the writing or the acting who knows but in my mind it's like this: im making an albeit an unfair comparison to effy from skins or even rue from euphoria, but they were battling their demons and making all the wrong choices but there was still this level of “i want to root for them” that's missing with mia personally.
in a similar vein with alison, she is meant to be this popular rich mean girl archetype who surprises you but obviously in the first half of the season she's supposed to be kind of unlikeable but i found her very endearing. as for the relationship, alison and mia DO NOT belong together. like at all. i am not rooting for them. alison in a way forced a relationship with mia and then also mia was like too scared to say anything about it. its clear that alison liked mia waaaaay more than mia liked alison. like carli says in the last ep as well, “to learn to not be a fantasy to each other”, alison needs to take mia off this pedastal she has for her. i'm very interested to learn more about her character outside of mia though if they hopefully continue the show. i have a feeling that we are supposed to think that she and cameron hooked up at the end or something but i'm rlly hoping its a red herring.
carli is also a character i would love to learn more about. she definitely has more chemistry with mia and i love her for standing her ground against mia, as she needs to help herself before she can be in a healthy relationship. but i will say it was pretty shitty stringing cameron along.
speaking of cameron, i didn't quite expect to like his character as much as i did. in a way his arc in the season is battling toxic masculinity as he kinda seems to come off as this laid back, bro kinda guy but he cares and loves so deeply. it wasn't right calling bec a "sket". i'm not british but obviously its like equivalent to slut, and im very glad he owned up to it. i'm also really interested to know more about his family and stuff.
i love bec as well. she deserves all the happiness in the world. im glad she was able to air out her things with mia, albeit in a very treacherous way and i also love how her mom was supportive of the abortion. i'm honestly kinda tired seeing the mom kicking out the daughter for getting pregnant trope so it was nice to see a mom just being supportive. bec is just such a wonderful friend and mia honestly has a lot to make up for. re not telling mia about her and cam, it was honestly frustrating seeing mia be so petty. i understand that its a big secret and she felt like everyone was hiding things from her but its also right to have secrets amongst friends, idk that really stuck out to me.
will for me had the weakest arc as in it wasn't the most interesting to me. don't get me wrong, i love the character but it just wasnt giving a whole lot to me. i recognize him as more than the comic relief but also at the same time he was stirring the pot in a lot of the arguments / blowups the group had, consciously and unconsciously. though i will say will x theo <3 but comedic duo of the century is will x alison. the little song they did for mia's birthday is stuck in my head.
tldr; great characters and great show. it's really hard to find a show about teens as a 25yo living in a 16yo body that i enjoy and don't find annoying. i just love how each character was able to be so nuanced despite being an ensemble cast.
but knowing netflix's track record it's gonna get cancelled because a) it's good b) has wlw content... but i really hope not.

i feel the same way about kiernan... i initially followed her career as a voice actress and thought she did phenomenal but now that i saw the movie.. some lines felt too cringey
ok great. I agree that the movie was cringey but the other actors were able to pull off this off kilter camp that the movie was trying to do but kiernan idk…
I’ve just been reading other peoples reviews on the movie and it’s like I feel like I’m not seeing what they are seeing cuz they are like “kiernan is phenomenal” but I’m really just not seeing it

genuine question
Truly not trying to throw shade but like is kiernan shipka a good actress? She was fine in chilling adventures but like there were definitely some moments for me where I’d be like ehhhh that’s not rlly that good. But I just watched totally killer and idk what it was but aside from the mid editing and writing she was like not good in it to me? I don’t think she’s horrific but the way she delivers lines sometimes falls really flat…
but I just want to know if it’s purely a me thing or if other people felt the same.

nancy drew ending - ramblings
goodbye, goodbye, goodbye, you were bigger than the whole sky
i found nancy drew in the pandemic. i was bored and always loved cw shows growing up and the emma roberts nancy drew and thought i'd give it a whirl and boy was i impressed. i binged the first 2 seasons and was waiting with bated breath for season 3 to come out and when it was over tbh, knowing the cw's history + it being sold i was convinced that it wasn't going to get a season 4 and we wouldve have never found out about the ending of nace but when it got picked up i was like FUCK YES!
re season 4 like some people, i did find that this season was a little messy even with knowing the last couple episodes had to be restructured into a finale which is very impressive.
tristan was not a strong character and personally i think partially because of henry not being a super strong actor against the power houses of the drew crew. obviously it is hard to be added into a group after they've been established for three seasons but like at one point in the finale i swear i saw henry looking down at his mark when he pulled kennedy aside in one of the scenes. i just think he wasn't selling the spooky ooky supernatural stuff as well as the others and i just think his chemistry with kennedy was lacking. with all the other potential suitors: owen, tamura, park, EVEN GIL!, they all had believable chemistry but with tristan it was just dull and flat
the pacing was kinda off this season and maybe that had to do with the restructuring of the last episodes but what i loved about the earlier seasons (most memorable for me being season 2 with the wraith) was that each episode was able to stand alone but was cohesive at the end. this season pulled us into many different directions and i don't think it worked too well. i was happy that we got to see more of the drew crew's personal lives outside of solving mysteries but it just felt incohesive to me at times.
despite my criticisms i loved how they ended the show. it gave me marvel runaway hulu vibes if anyone watched that and how they ended their show. (another josh schwartz + stephane savage show) in the end as much as i loved nace and their endgame, the found family endgame of the drew crew really warmed my heart. i loved how nancy's two dads also got a last moment with her and the last frame of the show GUTTED me. knowing that theyll be in each other lives forever even as the show is done UGHH NOBODY TOUCH ME!
biiiiiig props to the writers (WGA strong!), the crew + everyone involved behind the scenes above and below the line and obviously to kennedy, alex, leah, maddison and tunji (SAG-AFTRA strong!), thank you for 4 seasons of pretty kickass television

my initial thoughts
admittedly i have not read the books but like am i supposed to be rooting for / like alex? like how the scene was put together the cake thing was literally alex's fault and then he hates henry because he was mean to him years ago because it was his first debut as a public figure and he was scared? but like henry doesnt owe alex anything? and alex is all like uggh hes entitled and snobby but like he's literally doing the same thing? i know they work through it (obviously) but it was really hard to root for alex's happiness for me
but also maybe its the actor too? taylor isnt giving charismatic charming to me...
am i the only one who feels this way?
EDIT: the movie's pacing is also so fast like i'm not sitting with the characters enough...
