“No Moon (White stars) by Orchid Mantis // Yellow House (Out 11.11.18 via Bandcamp)
If there’s one track that I would recommend getting lost in this week, it would be this track from the forthcoming Orchid Mantis album. I’m absolutely in love with everything that i’ve heard so far from Yellow House.

“Ever Again” by Robyn // Honey (2018)
I’m not surprised in the least, but this is the third song by Robyn from 2018 that i would put on my favorites of the year list. More than twenty years into her career and she’s still finding new ways to move bodies, fall in love, and mend broken hearts. i love so much of her work.

A Halloween Megamix // 2018
I fell behind in my goal of 4 specific Halloween mixtapes, so I’m making good on it, by compiling everything thus far unused, into a megamix that you can throw on and enhance your spooky times. The collection will be continually updated and reaaranged through Halloween, so by all means, subscribe on Spotify and stick around for some additions.
Featuring: Joy Division, Chromatics, Radiohead, M83, The Cure, Sonic Youth, Nick Cave, David Bowie, The Shins,  The Knife, and many, many more.

“Every Second Darker” by No Demons Here // In Aluminum Headache (2010 // Bandcamp)
An older favorite from the beginning of the decade. Every Second Darker is a song that I needed desperately when I first heard it. I was lost, depressed, and confused as to where I was headed in life. Hearing a song that sort of encapsulated that feeling in sound gave me strength to keep pushing toward something, anything, for just a little while longer. After a while, things got better and I probably stopped listening because the song had collected some emotional barnacles that I didn’t feel like scrubbing clean at the moment. Now, almost nine years later, i can hear this beautifully haunting dirge and love it for the memories connected, but mostly I can hear it and love the simple droning beauty of a song that never caught fire like i’d hoped.

“Hands off the Antarctic” by Thom Yorke // Hands off the Antarctic (Single) 2018
Thom Yorke has had an active couple of years and i couldn’t be happier to hear the output. In addition to the release of his double album score for the forthcoming film, Suspiria, Yorke has put together a brooding and haunting new track for Greenpeace’s climate change initiative. The video uses footage of the Antarctic as shot from the Greenpeace ship, Arctic Sunrise. The result is a breathtaking snapshot of a dire situation that needs everyone’s support or else, we’re soon fucked. I’m looking at you, the year 2030.

Halloween Sounds 2018 (vol.two)
Here goes some more spooky sounds for your pumpkin loving ear holes... that sounded like more of an insult than it was intended. I love your ears. And pumpkins. Anyway, volume two finds the sounds leaning into the dance and electronic genres and branching out from there. Dabbling all over the place. Again, sounds way different outloud than when i was typing it. So, as per usual, you can stream this on the platform of your choice. Apple or Spotify.

“Hanoi 6” by Unknown Mortal Orchestra // IC-01 Hanoi (Out 10/26 via Jagjaguwar)
The end of October sees the release of another new album from Unknown Mortal Orchestra. This time around the band has gone instrumental, constructing shadowy soundscapes that layer on precise, math rock-esque percussion to create a jarringly intense framework that is then developed by lush guitars and icy synths. The lead single, “Hanoi 6” is further proof that UMO are some of the most exciting and adventurous musicians in the game at this moment. Highly recommended.

“Has Ended” by Thom Yorke // Suspiria - Original Film Score (Out 10.26.18 via XL)
There is no album that I’m more excited for at this moment more than Thom Yorke’s score for Luca Guadagnino’s re-imagining of the brilliant horror film, Suspiria. XL has released another track from the double-LP, this one entitled “Has Ended” and continues the haunting, ominously beautiful trend that began with the lovely, “Susprium” that was released last month. Absolutely wonderful.

HALLOWEEN SOUNDS 2018 // vol.one
It’s October and therefore you should be getting proper spooky. What better way than to dive into some Halloween (and spooky-adjacent) sounds. This year, I’m going to be doing a handful of small mixes based around particular styles, rather than one big mega-mix. Volume one is leans into the loud and energetic. Volume two will be more electronic. Volume three heads into the darker atmospheric sounds. After that? I’m not sure. I’m up for suggestions.
You can stream Volume One on Apple Music and Spotify. Tracklist is on the image.

“Powder Blue / Cascine Park” by Yumi Zouma // EP III (2018)
Something for a hazy and brisk autumn morning. Yumi Zouma have been hitting it out of the park since their debut and the lovely, layered dream pop gems just keep coming. An airy, upbeat warmth permeates every second of “Powder Blue / Cascine Park” and the way things have been going this past while - it’s a nice way to detach and come down from the insanity of our modern world.

In my absence from the blog these past couple of years, i got back in the sweet pupper game with a handsome boy named Burt. If you follow me on instagram (or him for that matter) you’ve surely noticed the little dude. If not, I figured why not share his awesomeness here in lieu of another music post this evening. I’ll get back into that tomorrow. In the meantime, meet Burt Macklin, boston terrier. If you see him on the streets of Portland, he will probably have already kissed you.
