I was looking back through some of my old pictures(cause you have to make room for more yoga pics) and I felt a pang of sadness and happiness. Part of my new changes are to really commit to making Laska is a worn out and sleepy dog by the end of the day. Went for a 6 mile jog/walk and a good while in the park. Been thinking a lot of the changes I want to see in my personal life practice, and my physical practice. School is finishing up, work is settling in, and my personal life is truly happy. I don't know what life has in store, but I am excited and scared. This is a pose that I still have trouble getting into and maintaining for any real length of time. What a year it has been. I feel incredibly blessed to have finish my 500 CYT with these amazing people. The network we have established is priceless. 12 unique individuals that came together to show insights into every facet of yoga. From corporate to free spirit, asana focused to energetic focused, and silly to serious. But one day my fellow yogi took my hand and showed me that I was only half an inch from the flipped grip. Day three of #openinguptoyoga with @aloyoga @the.bendy.brat @yogajosey @yoga_warrior_goddess @cupcakesandyoga For my upperback opener I went with #dwipadaviparitadandasana or #twoleggedinvertedstaffpose while still an intense backbend the straightening of the legs takes the pull of the lowback by the psoas and other hip flexors. Day two of #hipsopenheartfull with @aloyoga @hollybentley_yoga @vanessaeyoga @getfityogagirl @mmaneevese Today the pose is #baddhakonasana #cobblerspose or #boundanglepose. Another one of the poses that show up in my life everyday. 50% of the time that I am seated in the ground I am in this pose. When going into this pose in a yoga flow I like to spend a few breaths focusing on rising up from the pelvis, core engaged, back is long, getting my hips levels, thighs on the ground and heels coming closer in. Once I find my edge I back off and keeping a flat back melt over my feet. Some days I only come to my elbows, other days I make a pillow with my hands and chill out in this pose. Day two of #openinguptoyoga with @aloyoga @the.bendy.brat @yogajosey @yoga_warrior_goddess @cupcakesandyoga Today I went with #ustrasana or #camelpose. I used to always think this pose was simple and would just settle into it and wait for the teacher to say more one, but this has now become one of most integral parts of my practice. I like to create a flow in #ustrasana. First using it was a psoas opener, then by zipping up my core and lengthening my back as a back bend, then I open up into a mindful heart opener. My quads, glutes, abs, back are all activated creating a firm foundation, so when I do open my chest and heart I can truly do so. My shoulders are engaged so that I'm not resting into my ligaments. Some sort of variation of this hip opener always shows up in my day. By using a prop I can take my focus to a singular place. One thing I really try to maintain is a flat back, core engagement, shoulder engagement, and a external rotation of the arms.
