I know this is a controversial hot take but being bi is not a bad thing. You don’t have to try and preface it by saying you prefer one gender over another. I’m very sorry that people treat bi people so poorly that it feels necessary that does suck. But preferring one over the other doesn’t make you both.
A bi man who prefers men isn’t a bi gay. He’s just bi. A bi woman who prefers women is still bi. Not a bi lesbian. That’s all I have to say.

move the pictures on your wall
stack whatever clutter is in your room into piles even if you don’t have time to clean it all
slightly vary your commute, even just by one street
change where you sit and scroll aimlessly on your phone even if it’s only to the chair in your room instead of your bed
drink water or juice out of a wine glass in the morning because nothing is real
shower with the lights off, without music
buy $3 flowers at trader joe’s—they look bad next to the more expensive ones but they look so good in your room
start typing things you don’t post into your notes. your thoughts can be worth documenting even if you don’t deem them worth sharing
wake up super early just once. you don’t have to make it a habit it’s just extra satisfying to go to bed that night

I had 911 called for me at work earlier. I fainted and was completely unresponsive and the whole thing is fuzzy to me. apparently it was just due tk vertigo, but my boyfriend and I are pretty sure I overworked myself and it was caused by fatigue. I have the weekend off but I feel like I need to go in still. I'm not goinv to but damn if I'm not gonna feel guilty for staying home.

Coping with flashbacks & nightmares
Because we become upset and avoid thinking about the trauma, the brain has not been able to process and file the memory away, so any trigger tricks the brain into thinking the even is happening again, right now, and we re-experience all the feelings and sensations as thought it really was happening right now.
Use these coping strategies and grounding techniques during a flashback: Grounding Techniques & Coping with Flashbacks
Use this Discrimination Worksheet PDF before a flashback, so that you can be better prepared to reassure your brain that the event is NOT happening again right now.
Set aside some time every day, maybe 15-20 minutes, to think about the traumatic event and write down some notes. Try to make it the same time each day, which might be evening time if you have nightmares. Finish this time by writing down a positive coping statement such as “I survived”, “I’m taking back control of my life”, “I have …… who/which supports me”.

r/DIDcringe is a disgusting subreddit and I’ll do nothing but laugh when it gets banned.
All those people on that subreddit do is harass mentally ill folks who’ve endured severe childhood trauma because they have nothing better to do with their pathetic lives. Those people need to get a life and stop harassing us, the DID/OSDD community gets enough shit as it is.
I encourage that everyone who sees that subreddit report it immediately.

Why some systems have "cringey" alters - and why they're not actually cringey.
I'm talking about edgy alters, fictives (fictional introjects), and non-human alters...
1. DID is formed during childhood. While a new split can happen at any time after that, a lot of alters are created within a child's mind (or within the mind of a preteen or teenager). As kids a lot of us associate "edgy" with being tough and capable of protecting us.
2. Same as above applies here, but even as adults it's perfectly normal to become attached to certain characters. A lot of people with DID are also neurodivergent and therefore even more likely to latch onto fiction as a coping mechanism.
3. As our therapist says, it takes a lot of creativity for the brain to cope with trauma by forming a system. It makes sense that someone would have non-human alters. There's no wrong way to have a system.

I'm tired of having nightmares. my psych had me try otc sleep meds and gave me a prescription for prazosin, but nothing's working. I don't even care about waking up in a panic, or being afraid to sleep anymore. it's the thrashing or scooting close or tossing around that wakes my boyfriend up multiple times a night that concerns me. I know he doesn't mind too much, but it's really irritating knowing that none of these meds help with keeping me more still at night and there's nothing I can do about it.
anyone have any tricks of the trade they can offer? I'm willing to try pretty much anything at this point.
