The physical zine has 80 pages, the digital has 79 as we were unable to remove a piece of artwork that was stolen from another artist from our physical copies. (They were already printed, alas!)

Hello people! I haven’t been around much lately, life has been crazy for me, but @n3rdlif343va has been so kind to remind me to post my final piece for @phichitzine now that we are allowed to! 

This piece has been inspired by her idea for the fic she then wrote for the zine of Phichit going to the hospital as volunteer in the pediatric department, bringing kids little stuffed hamsters with super hero costumes. I tought she had a great idea the second I’ve heard it, because Phichit is so kind and loving he’d sure do something like that!

Out of the goodness of his heart, and because he wants an excuse to eat blini without worrying about Ciao Ciao’s eagle eyes, Phichit had agreed to grace Russia—and Victor’s latest ice show—with his presence. He’s only in Russia for a few days, which is probably as much cold as he’d want to withstand. Victor and Yuuri have shuttled him around the city, showing him that St. Petersburg has more to offer than ice and snow and a friend that’s he’s missed seeing in person rather than on video chat.

But tonight, they’re ensconced in Victor and Yuuri’s apartment. Victor’s off dealing with a last minute lighting emergency—(“How the lighting designer failed to account for all of the sequins I’ll never know. It’s figure skating!”)—though Phichit suspects that it’s mostly to give Phichit a chance to spend time with Yuuri rather than Victor-and-Yuuri. There’s a movie on the flat screen behind them. They’d spent a little time playing with Yuuri’s Nintendo Switch before deciding to relive the nights they’d spent in a passably neat and somewhat shabby Detroit apartment.

“Do you want What Happens in Phuket Stays In Phuket , Tongue Thai-d , or Turn Down for Wat?” Phichit asks, bottles dangling from his fingers.

Chiang Mai is beautiful; it is even more so during Yi Peng.

The city streets come alive with the festivities even before the sun begins to set along the horizon. Noise and color rise around them in increments until the world bursts with it everywhere, vibrant and decadent. The air drips with the enticing smell of traditional Thai food, buzzes with the afterimages of bright sparklers. There’s laughter too, and smiles on the faces of tourists and locals alike, and live music performed on street corners.

And of course there are lanterns, everywhere, filling every space and crevice with their warm glow and their promises for the future.

A lot of people think that the act of releasing the lanterns is synonymous with the act of letting go of all of the previous year’s misfortunes. Every bump along the road, every fall on the ice, ever failed jump and failure to podium — every job lost, every child with an illness, every difficult harvest. People think these horrors of everyday life are attached and to the lanterns and sent off to float away, to never be seen or thought of again. People forget, as they often do, that the festival is about hope.
