OK, the last one for @artsybun

This time featuring ANGST!!!

Usagi fond Leo floating on top of the water covered in fishing nets. Panicked, he tried to untie his friend, but Leo's tail was especially tangled up and injured. Ropes had bruised his scales. Fresh open wounds are a sign of a struggle. Maybe he swam too close to the local fishing spot? No, no, he's done this SO many times he KNOWS to avoid them! What happened? One of the wounds goes right through his tail, clearly punctured all the way through. Was he targeted? So many things raced through poor Usagi's head as he pulled his friend onto his little boat and pulled him into shallow water, all the wile tiers streaming down his face, screaming for his Ant, and try to comfort his best friend the best he could. Even if he didn't know if Leo could hear him or not.

"Itokit'sgoingtobeok! You're going to be OK! I got you! Everything is fine! . . . Please, please be okay. . ."

It's more for himself, really.

Note that this is not canon to @artsybun 's Mermaid & Pirate au, but I'd thought I'd add my last little brain rot before I make fan art of a different Rise au. So here are some final thoughts about this drawing in particular.

I don't really know about the world building in this au. (Outside of the relationship between the boys) So a lot of this is interpretation and personl head canons of the au. So if I end up wrong, I'll probably edit this in the future.

The idea is that Usagi and his Ant live on a boat house, traveling and trading between small islands with little settlements. There is one island that is deemed "safe" enough to stop there frequently and stay for long periods of time. That's where the two accidentally meet.

I'm not sure how the law works or how they inforce if. I imagine it's like Pirates of the Caribbean, where the Royal British navy just went around being assholes and "maintaining order." Like that, but whatever equivalent this au has.

Maybe a smaller group of those guys just so happen to see poor Leo on the way to see his friend and wanted to "inform" him of the rules. Or maybe it really was a fisherman that really didn't like "his kind" and wanted to be cruel. It's kinda left for interpretation.

One more thing. Leo's mermaid half is a shark, and sharks need to keep moving in order to breathe. This doesn't apply to all sharks, and Leo is also half Red eared slider that are semi aquatic, so this might not apply to him at all. But it just makes the idea more angsty that the net Leo was trapped in limited his movement after he got away from his would-be killer and passed out from exhaustion trying to get to a safe place and almost drowning.

These two remind me of Ponyo, so I redrew a movie cover I found with the two boys.

Earth was destroyed many, many centuries ago. Humans were a part of a much larger war between two parties that ended in tragedy. Any human or other alien species that apposed the opposite side were quickly "rescued" and "Indegrated" into the ever growing empire, with plans to "liberate" the cosmos. April O'Neil was born raised in one of millions of colonies, were she learned many skills, from biology or basic technology and robotics to cobat training and weapons use, all in an effort to contribute to the great empire, just like her parents, grandparents and grate grandparents before her. She was the top of her class and was given the opportunity to take a position as a researcher, with her first assignment being to study and absurd the new alien species on a newly discovered planet. April loves learning about planets and the ecosystems on those planets, as well as the living beings that survive in the ecosystems. She's fascinated that living conditions can just occur naturally and how evolution can change a being to perfectly fit those living conditions. She's also collected things that could have a connection with earth. Wanting to learn where her people came from, how they used to survive. They'll be landing soon. Better get ready.

Raph's "tride" is more "every turtle for themselves" mentality and fights over the domain of the swamp non-stop. The smaller ones don't last long. Normally, most "male" alligator snapping turtle aliens are about an average of 10 ft in height, while "Females" can be as tall as 14 ft. Note: Raph is 7 ft and is the "smallest" of his age group. However, strang things have been happening in the past few months. Some of the things in the swamp have been growing 2 or 3 times their normal size, including the turtles that already bully Raph for being small. Raph thinks that it has something to do with that glowing red stone that is in the main tree nest that holds the newest generation of eggs. He's staying far away, but even he's getting affected. Some of his scales have turned bright red, which will only make him a "bigger" target.

Leo's tride lives on floating mountains that move with the rotation of the planet high above the tree line. Larger mountains have their own cave systems where they primarily live and raise their young. Red eared sliders are primarily made of fighters and expert climbers. Losing meany members to red and blue feathered bird like creatures, this turtles have colorful stripes that mimics the predators features. They are also able to mimic there hunting calls to "established territory" and keep the nest hidden. Some members have interchangeable reproductive organs to increases there odds of surviving, tho turtle eggs seem to be the enemy's favorite snack, hence the importance of keeping the nest safe.

There's many mini tribes within the large tribe they called bales. Every bale consists of a minimum 20-50 members, each have a random number of hatchings, tots/kits, teens/young adults, parents and elders. Every few years, coming of age teens have a hair braiding festival to start creating new bonds with members of other bales, before braking off and starting a new bale made up of there partners and friends. Every festival after that can be spent straightening the bound or leave to join a different bale if the previous one doesn't work out. This will be Mikey's first time participating in a hair braiding festival. Note: A bale does NOT have to be lovers/partners and can just purely be made up of friends and existing siblings that come from the bale they were born in. No one is pressured to have eggs. They don't even have to leave the bale they were born in if they don't feel ready. Some have even bin known to create new bales with different turtles species from completely different trides.

The tribe Donnie was born in has stayed in the same pond for generations. New things were seen as dangerous, and no one was allowed to leave the safety of their home. He's often ignored because he's constantly asking questions. The elders and adults have tried many times to convince him that there's no need to go beyond their territory and to try and get a love life. After all, the time to start the new generation is fast approaching, and "You won't be young forever." Donnie hates the idea. He doesn't even understand the appeal, other then to expand the tribe. It's not like they're at risk of dying out. "It's not a big deal if one person doesn't participate in the ooey gooey discussingness!" Donnie trying to reason with them, explain his discomfort, they didn't listen. Donnie decided he needed out, sneaking past the guards and farther then he ever did before. As he walked, the sky above the rain forest ignited in a bright purple light. Donnie looked up to see something falling from the stars and cut through the trees, finally crashing in the lake ahead of him. Donnie was always bin the curious type.
